Alexander Vlahos (Mordred) has revealed that the Merlin series 5 DVD set will feature a commentary by himself and Colin Morgan (Merlin)!
The actor, who made his debut as Mordred (taking over from Asa Butterfield) in the first episode of Merlin‘s fifth series, got to really show off his skills when, in the second part of the series 5 premiere, he was revealed not to be the evil bane of Arthur we all thought he was going to be. And this is exactly the episode which you’ll be able to hear Vlahos’ thoughts about on the DVD box set.
Vlahos recently revealed on Twitter that he and Colin Morgan, who plays Merlin, recorded a commentary track for “Arthur’s Bane, Part 2”:
Today, I will be recording the DVD commentary for Arthur’s Bane: Part two with the lovely Colin Morgan.

We don’t know if there are any more commentaries scheduled with Vlahos, but we hope so! There’ll definitely be a lot to discuss for Morgan and Vlahos in this episode though, considering that we really learned a lot about Mordred, and Merlin’s feelings about him.
When we last saw Mordred as a little boy, Merlin had betrayed him in an attempt to save Arthur from his future fate, and Mordred silently communicated that he would never forgive him for what he did. Yet when we see him again all grown up, Mordred seems ready to bury the hatchet with Merlin, legitimately concerned by Morgana’s mad desire to kill Arthur, and hesitant to go along with her plan. He finally betrays Morgana and earns a place at Arthur’s side, and while he may have hidden motives for doing this, a part of Mordred seemed genuinely pleased with the honour Arthur has given him.
Hopefully the commentary track will include the actors’ thoughts on later events of the series, as of course they have completed filming, and we’re sure a lot more of Mordred’s backstory has been revealed.
Merlin season 5 volume 1 has been set for release on November 26 in the UK, and you can pre-order it on Amazon.
