One Million Moms, an anti-gay group based in the U.S., responds to The New Normal’s comical scene where they depict the group as ridiculous, saying “the show actually made One Million Moms look good.”

The New Normal and One Million Moms have developed quite a history lately, with the group first asking their supporters to write letters to the show’s sponsors to try and get the show cancelled, and Ryan Murphy retaliating by writing in an extra scene where he pokes fun at the group, all of which can be read in further detail in previous Hypable posts here and here.

On their official website, they put up a post in response to The New Normal’s most recent episode, where Shania (Bebe Wood) is having a pretend wedding, but conservative Nana (Ellen Barkin) enlists the help of ‘future one million moms’ to stop the fake wedding. For those who didn’t see the scene, the kids who are meant to be future members of the group say a bunch of absurd things that are funny because of how uninformed and homophobic they are. At no point during the scene do you think that what they are saying makes sense or are valid points, and any normal person would conclude from that representation that One Million Moms sound crazy.

However, the members themselves think that the show actually portrayed them in a positive light – so this might just give you an insight into the minds behind the group. They told the writers of New Normal, ”openly homosexual Ryan Murphy”, that they will continue to fight for the show to be cancelled “because it goes against Biblical practices and Christian virtues.”

Some might view the show as demonstrating a loving family, no matter the gender, but One Million Moms has a different notion. They warn their readers at the end of their long post that “NBC’s “The New Normal” is attempting to desensitize America and our children.”

What’s your opinion? Is NBC desensitising children? The New Normal returns next Tuesday 9:30/8:30c.

    Are those ppl for real?

  • KleppMelk

Typical hyper religious people trying to push their religion on others. I think I’ll start watching this show now, it sounds awesome:)

    • Valaina

      It is really awesome. :D

  • Peter

“because it goes against Biblical practices and Christian virtues.”

Well, I’m gay and Atheist. So I don’t give two s**ts what a couple of crazies on top of their soapbox have to say about other’s human rights.

Its really quite a great new show. Funny, and feels like the good parts of glee season one. ex. Did they really just say that?? But in a good way lol

They also go out of their way to show all different opinions. Like in the politics episode. They call out both parties and arent just about YAY GAY MARRIAGE.

and every single scene with the grandma character.

One million moms is just being ridiculous
Id maybe understand if the characters in the show were all perfectly happy with the gay couple but they arent.

The entire group would LOVE the grandma if they ever watched the show Lol

This is crazy! I casually watch The New Normal, and I enjoy it. It’s not the greatest show by any means, but it is fun. I don’t see how people can try to cancel a show that goes against their values though. The easy solution is to just not watch it. Everybody has a right to make opinions.

  • JoeR

I HOPE it is desensitizing children. That should be a major POSITIVE. Accepting a wide range of family types and sexual orientations as normal. Because they are.

  • Matt

Why do you link to their website? Their rankings were already going down, but climbed slightly today. Probably because of reporters like you. Please, don’t link to them.

  • Laura

I really don’t understand the religious argument at all. It’s against your beliefs? Don’t watch it. You don’t see Muslim people trying to ban pork for everyone or Jehovah’s Witnesses trying to ban the national anthem from being sung. Anyone who uses the “it’s against my religion” argument to try and stop something for everyone needs get their head out of their ass.

I know! What ever happened to seperation of church and state? I am so sick of the extremist branches of all the religions trying to push their beliefs on others.

    straight people problems…

Monica Cole cares none about biblical principles. It is all about the money with Cole and AFA. Cole’s blast e-mails are now calling for a donation of $100.00 equaling four million if her 40,000 sheeple give. Cole sits at her computer all day sending out emails telling the disgrunted exactly what they want to hear–America is filled with sinners, but you Christian can take back your country and all it takes is $100.00 payable to Monica Cole. 1. The country belongs does not belong to Monica Cole or any other special interest group. 2. Monica Cole operates out of pure deception and falsely claims VICTORY over everything. Scam artists at its best.

I applaud the group. The Truth Project has really shown me how a Biblical worldview is the only one that makes sense, which is exactly what OMM is doing. They are fighting for the truth.

    • TeamEdwardJace

are they? are they really? most of the issues they focus on aren’t real issues

    • TeamEdwardJace

gun control is a real issue though. and plus they spread hate. i’m a christian by the way

  • Marie

Oh boy. . .well, these people aren’t very rational, are they? They don’t see the world in a rational way. I do find it amusing that they completely misread the whole scene though.

  • TeamEdwardJace

i’m a christian. but seriously one millions moms needs a hobby and that their views are not correct.

    • Chuck Norris

First off, TEAM JACE ALLLLL THE WAY! Love thsoe books! Glad to find another TMI fan. Secondly, sam here! I’m a christian. I’ve grown up in a christian home my entire life, my parents are baptists. And I agree- A million moms seriously needs to just pipe the heck down sometimes1 They are rediculous 90% of the time!
