Collider sat down with Alexandra Daddario, who plays Annabeth in Percy Jackson, and talked about her latest movie (Texas Chainsaw 3D), the upcoming Sea of Monsters, and her future projects.

Watch the video below, with Percy Jackson news coming in around the 11 minute mark.

On the Sea of Monsters front, which will be released in August of next year, Daddario talks about her appreciation for the movie and the fanbase. After not hearing any news about a sequel for quite some time, she says that she was excited to be back on the Percy Jackson set again. “It’s great to be a part of something that inspires kids,” she says. “It’s really a wonderful franchise to be a part of.”

She also notes (to the cheers of fans all around the world, we’re sure) that this movie is going to be closer to the book than The Lightning Thief was. One of the most obvious changes is, of course, the fact that Annabeth now has blonde hair.

This film will also have a lot of green screen – though that’s not too surprising, considering there are a lot of monsters to be seen in the sequel. But Daddario didn’t mind; she actually enjoyed working that way because it allowed her to imagine whatever she wanted.

We’ve got a little less than a year to go before we can see the sequel to The Lightning Thief. Are you excited, or do you think it’ll be a dud like the last one?

I don’t think I’ll go see it in theaters unless the trailers show a marked improvement over the last movie. I probably will watch it but I’d probably wait until I could rent it on DVD

  • gcw07

I’ll go see it. Sounds like they are sticking a lot closer to the book this time around. Looking forward to it. Hopefully it will be successful so they can make the rest of the series.

I do too! I’d hate to see them make a sequel and then just drop the rest of the movies. :-

  • SLAPAPOW

I’m reserving judgement until I see a trailer. I’m still bitter Kaya Scodelario isn’t playing Thalia Grace :(

  • Paula

I’m a fan so I’m obviously happy they are doing the sequels! It’s about time!!
I really hope they keep it close to the book this time… The Lightning Theif was an awesome movie for those who hadn’t read the book, but the fans suffered!
Crossing my fingers for this one.
Thank you Karen Rought for your articles!

if they are going to continue the series, they better bring in the overlying plot of Chronos and start showing us the other gods. Aries seemed like suck a bad ass but we didnt get to see him :[

It’ll be hard for them, seeing as they missed so much out. But once they fill in the gaps and get back on track I’m sure The Sea of Monsters will be great. And as Annabeth now having blonde hair, better late than never I guess. :)

  • light_sider

Lol that’s so weird about her hair! I wonder if they’re going to address it or just pretend the brown never happened

I guess the Director that directed the first Percy Jackson film (Chris Columbus) didn’t knew how to follow the book and have some changes (not a lot) as good enough as we would expect him to…considering that he directed the first two films of the Harry Potter series the Philosophers Stone and the Chamber of Secrets that lead the Franchise to start with a 100% big worldwide Success shown in the Premiers. The charm of success taht he had with Harry Potter Films apparently failed in the Percy Jackson movie…This time it would have more expectations! :)

  • jenna

Won’t it be weird for Annabeth’s hair color to change from one movie to the next?

  • Nessa

I’m kind of apprehensive :/ they totally ruined the first one, so I really don’t know how they can go on with the rest of the series….
There’s obviously the age difference, the fact that they cut out the titans and ares, the oracle and prophecies……… It will definitely be hard to continue with the storyline.
They should just go and remake then first one all together x)

  • Duplicanation

Cant wait!!!!! And I heard there will be a Manticore and so many things that are supposed to be in the third and fourth book…so yeah…BUt I am excited!!!!!

  • BookLover

I saw the movie yesterday, and let me just say it was horrible! Sub par acting and it was barely close to the book. It was a really big disappointment and I almost left in the middle of it because it was just so upsetting.
