J.K. Rowling appeared live on CBS’s This Morning for her first interview physically in the United States to promote The Casual Vacancy.
The author joined CBS’ Gale King and Charlie Rose for a seven minute interview in which they discuss Rowling’s interest in social classes and the book’s title.
The interview then turns to Harry Potter, and King points out the fans standing outside hoping to meet her. Rowling gets slightly emotional when she learns the fans love her for the themes within the magical book series. She says she has yet to come up with an adequate response to people who tell her the book series changed their lives.
Towards the end of the interview Rose asked her what she hopes for in life now. “What everyone wishes for. I wish my children grow up healthy and happy. I will be happy if I can just keep working. For me, writing is nearly everything – it’s not absolutely everything because my family is so important to me. But I need to work, I need to write.”
Tonight she’ll appear on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Comedy Central. Tomorrow, Rowling will host a live Q&A, reading, and signing all about The Casual Vacancy. Hypable staff will be present to offer a recap of the festivities!
