We’re getting another nice look at A Young Doctor’s Notebook which stars Jon Hamm (Mad Men) and Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter). The latter actor plays a younger version of the older.

This new photo depicts the two actors in their roles as Dr. Vladimir Bomgard. The miniseries is inspired by a collection of short stories by Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov set during the Russian Revolution.

“I loved the tone of it all, the mystery and sense of ‘other’ it engendered. The world was very foreign, yet very relatable, in a fish out of water sense. Bulgakov’s writing is very emotional and evocative,” Hamm said of the story. The actor had inspired the idea for this miniseries after visiting England to promote Mad Men. He was working with Sky Arts, who owns the rights to Bulgakov’s book, and kept turning the conversation back to the author.

Radcliffe came on board because he’s a big Bulgakov fan too. In the miniseries, Hamm plays the older version and taunts his younger self. He “voices all the neuroses of the young doctor, he becomes the voice in his head,” explained Radcliffe.

The actor promises plenty of gore, as is seen in the book. “That had to stay. It is pretty graphic in the book, and you can’t do justice to it without that. By episode four we were running out of blood.”
