In light of a remark Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney made at the Presidential debate last Wednesday, the Obama campaign today released a Big Bird ad endorsed by the President.
However, Sesame Street isn’t happy with his use of Big Bird and is requesting the ad be pulled.
The 30-second advertisement takes on a satirical spin and implies that Big Bird is a threat to the United States. The ad includes a clip of Big Bird saying, “It’s me! Big Bird” which almost sounds like Sesame Street and/or the yellow bird are endorsing the commercial.
“Sesame Workshop is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization and we do not endorse candidates or participate in political campaigns,” Sesame Street wrote on their website. “We have approved no campaign ads, and as is our general practice, have requested that the ad be taken down.”
The real Big Bird appeared on Saturday Night Live over the weekend and gave safe, political-free comments on his recent time in the spotlight. He played it so safe that he did not even specifically mention the debate.
The Obama campaign has not yet responded to requests for a take down. Due to the nature of this post we have disabled the comments.
