A couple of months ago, we brought you the announcement of the development of a specialist gluten-free recipe book by Lauren Lopez of Team StarKid. The project is now almost completed, it has a title, and it has been made available for pre-order on Kickstarter.
Lauren pitches her gluten-free cookbook, entitled These Treats Don’t Suck, to doubtful friends (“Why do gluten-free cookies taste like cardboard mixed with cat hair?”) in a hilarious, ridiculous, tongue-in-cheek and slightly rude video – nothing less than what we’d expect from any project of a Team StarKid alum. You can watch the video below:
The website mentioned in the video, www.noonescomingtotheparty.com, redirects to the official Kickstarter page for the project, where you can read more about the content of the book, and back the Kickstarter by pre-ordering a copy (or pledge funds towards the book’s production for any of the other rewards that may tickle your fancy).
Lauren also shared a few words about why she has chosen to develop this project:
I’ve tasted my fair share of gluten and dairy free things; some were delicious, but most were a sorry excuse for a treat. The thought of a future in which I could no longer enjoy delicious baked goods was enough to send me into a fit of the shakes. But I pulled myself together, got in the kitchen, and set forth on my mission.
Over the past couple of years I’ve experimented and developed my own recipes based on what I would want to serve my friends. I’m by no means a professional, and I continue to learn (mess up) every day, but I hope that These Treats Don’t Suck can help you enjoy gluten-free baking and encourage you to experiment!
Lauren’s Kickstarter reached its funding goal in a little under 72 hours, but will be open until October 28 for anyone who wants to support the book’s production. But don’t worry – if you don’t have the $50 to spend on purchasing the book via Kickstarter, the book will go on sale to the general public in November or December.
Will you be getting your hands on These Treats Don’t Suck by Lauren Lopez and trying out some of her recipes?
