Amy and Rory’s (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill) final Doctor Who episode is this Saturday. The BBC has just released their final trailer and extra images.
Showrunner Steven Moffat has released some last minute details via the BBC on what to expect in the Pond’s final episode.
Question: What can you tell us about The Angels Take Manhattan?Steven Moffat: There will be tragedy and there will be Weeping Angels. It is a heart-breaking farewell to Amy and Rory. We see the Doctor and his little Amelia Pond race through the streets of Manhattan to save Rory with help along the way as River Song charges back on to our screens, just in time to say goodbye.
Q: Why did you decide to set this episode in New York and to bring back the Weeping Angels?
SM: There was something about the Weeping Angels and New York that just seemed to make sense to me. And I thought of the story for this episode while in New York. It’s always good to find a new form for them and we’ve got little cherubs this time. I had loads of ideas for the Weeping Angels on both the previous stories that I never got anywhere close to using, so it was good to find the opportunity.
The BBC has also released a bunch of new photos. Some of the new images are similar to ones that were previously released, and others are screen shots from the various trailers. Though there are several fun poses on a series of rocks in Central Park, many of which were captured earlier this year via fan footage, it’s the photos not in that sequence that really stand out. Three in particular really take your breathe away: the close up of the cherub angels, the Doctor looking forlorn and alone, and Amy and Rory having what would appear to be a good-bye kiss.
In the final trailer for the episode the Doctor, Amy, and Rory are sitting on a pile of rocks in New York City’s Central park. The Doctor is engrossed in a detective book notably featuring a sexy detective named Melody who sounds awfully similar to River Song.
How would you rate these final photos and videos against the ones that were released yesterday and the overall trailers that aired on American and Canadian TV? Do you have any last minute theories?
