Friend of Mindy Kaling, Rainn Wilson shares his views on the future of her new Fox comedy. Get the inside scoop from one of Kaling’s closest co-stars.
“Mindy could never ever, ever, ever be a doctor,” Wilson tells Vibe magazine when asked about his former Office co-star. Wilson plays the nerdy and aloof Dwight, while Kaling’s chatty Kelly Kapoor was much more concerned with celebrity relationships than focusing on her work at Dunder Mifflin.
“She has such severe A.D.D. and addiction to her Blackberry,” Wilson continues. But he also claims Hollywood to be entirely “A.D.D-friendly.” Kaling is such a triple threat that the attention deficit only contributes to her ability to write, executively produce, and act with superior talent.
But could Kaling be a practicing medic? Not so much.
The real Mindy also seems to fall somewhere between The Office’s Kelly and the fictional Mindy from The Mindy Project.
Some speculate that Kaling might not be able to pull off a leading role in a sitcom, but Wilson is right in the mark in praising her talents:
“Mindy is smart, sarcastic, quick-witted and she’s not pretentious. She has excellent taste. She’s got a good heart. And she’s a very upbeat, loving person. That’s what I love about Mindy, and why people really respond to her so positively. There’s a lot of sarcastic women role models out there, but they’re not as likeable. Mindy is so likeable that she can say anything. She can get away with anything, and you just love her.”
He also refers to Kaling as “an Indian Marlo Thomas” and touts her new show as “the next Sex and the City.”
We hope that The Mindy Project can draw the fanbase that Carrie Bradshaw and her ladies did.
Since we already know from the trailer that Ed Helms in making an appearance on the show, Vibe asked Wilson if he were also open to a cameo.
His response? “I told her ‘write me in,’ I’d do it in a heartbeat. I’d love to be on it.”
How much fun would Rainn Wilson be as a guest star on The Mindy Project?
