The CW released a clip showing the Winchesters’ reunion in the Supernatural season 8 premiere, “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”

We’re guessing this clip is from fairly early on in the episode as it shows the brothers reuniting after a year apart. After Sam drives up to the secluded cabin in the Impala, Dean tackles him and performs the tests to prove neither he nor Sam are demons, leviathan, or shape shifters.

Sam, thrilled to see his brother alive, quips, “I don’t know whether to hug you or take a shower.” But hug they do in the time-honored Winchester tradition of hugging only when one brother has returned from the dead.

Dean then reveals that he was in Purgatory for the previous year, though is quiet on the details of his escape, saying only, “I’m here.” And when Sam asks after Castiel, Dean’s answer is that “Cas didn’t make it.” Sam pushes for more than a vague statement, to which Dean replies, “I saw enough.”

We’re guessing Sam will be handing Dean the keys to the Impala in short order.

We know Dean’s time in Purgatory will be explored throughout the season in flashbacks, and Dean’s tone in this clip seems like an ominous indicator of what we’ll find out.

What do you think of the clip? Was the brotherly reunion everything you were hoping for?

I found this reunion refreshing, in a way. The guys didn’t really make a big deal about it. After all, this kind of reunion between the two has happened a few times already. =P This definitely got me more excited about season eight.

Ooh, the Cas deal sounds ominous… I can’t wait!!

Definitely liked the reunion. You can see the different emotions both brothers are experiencing, which makes me anticipate the new season. I do find Dean’s statement that “Whoever built that box didn’t want me in there any more than I did,” also intriguiging. God is the one who made purgatory, according to Death so it seems he is still in the picture if we are to take Dean literally.

I’ve been reading every spoiler and interview on season 8 and I’m really looking forward to oct 3.
