Netflix was vocal in announcing this morning that series 2 of Steven Moffat’s wildly popular Sherlock is now available for instant streaming.

The television and film streaming service sent out an e-mail to its customers this morning announcing the news. “Becoming embroiled in the complex plans of the dangerous and desirable Irene Adler, Sherlock needs every one of his remarkable skills to survive,” they write.

Until today, only season one of the BBC program had been available to Netflix users. This’ll make it much easier for newcomers, like myself, to see the show legally. Unsurprisingly, the show has a 4.5 star rating made up of over 1 million reviews.

A couple weeks ago Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch spoke about filming of season 3. “We’ve had a couple of meetings but I don’t think we’re filming until January. I need to have some more talks with [Moffat and co-creator Mark Gatiss] and tease them about the fact that I do have a career outside of Sherlock now, so they’d better f*cking write something.” Around the same time, Moffat revealed three words that clue us in on what is to come in the next three episodes: rat, wedding, and bow. You can read our analysis of what these words may mean.

Will you check out Sherlock season 2 on Netflix?

Yeah, I bought it like 3 months ago when it came out. I guess I never contemplated buying it anywhere other than Amazon.

I just want to comment that I think headlines like “Sherlock’ season 2 arrives on Netflix” are misleading. Sherlock may just be hitting Netflix INSTANT for the first time, but it’s been available on Netflix in DVD format for some time. Look, I realize that streaming is an incredibly popular option and that many people have streaming-only Netflix accounts but it’s not like the second season of Sherlock has had zero presence on Netflix. I’m not saying this to be a jerk or to single Andrew out – I did see that he mentioned the instant thing in the body of the post. It’s just….I’ve been noticing people making comments like “Netflix finally has [movie/TV show available!” when what they really mean is that Netflix finally put something new on instant. And this bugs me. Just because something isn’t available in your preferred format doesn’t mean it’s not available at all. And it’s not like people couldn’t purchase the DVDs or borrow them from their local public library for free.

YES. I only just got a netflix account and Sherlock was one of the first things I watched, and I didn’t even have to wait that long for Season 2 to be up! This chick is a happy camper. :D

Yeah it’s not on the uk Netflix though, I thinks that’s unfair since my tax pays for it to be made
