Mark you calendars – the Divergent movie hits theaters March 21, 2014. Summit Entertainment is behind the film and with its experience in young adult adaptations, it is sure to be a success.

Divergent was written by first-time author 23-year-old Veronica Roth, and has topped The New York Times Best Sellers list ever since being published in May of 2011 by Katherine Tegen Books/HarperCollins Publishers. The book was written by Roth while she was earning her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University. She followed her first novel with the book Insurgent, which has also made its way to the #1 position on New York Times Best Sellers lists. To date, both novels have sold nearly 1.5 million copies outpacing sales of The Twilight Saga novels at the same point in their literary lifespans.

The screenplay for the film is being written by Evan Daugherty with a filmmaker soon to be announced. The studio acquired the film rights to the novel in early 2011 several months before the book Divergent was published.

Lionsgate, which is the parent company of Summit, has seen success with its adaptation of The Hunger Games. Divergent has a similar vibe and should do well in that market. The story follows Tris, who lives in a future Chicago that is separated in five factions in order to stabilize society. At age 16 each each citizen must choose a permanent faction. However, for Tris things don’t go as planned, and she has to survive an aggressive and physically demanding initiation. Beatrice Prior must uncover her true hidden strengths and risk her family, her newfound love, and her very own life to defuse a mysterious conspiracy which could change the balance of power forever.

Who should be cast?

Now that the movie has an official release date it is only matter of time before casting rumors start to swirl. Who do you want to play Tris and Four? Tell us in the comments section!

I really hate that all these books are being turned into movies …it feels like they’re losing their sanctity.

  • d3erudite

Yay. So excited for this ! P.s they already have a director . Neill burger was chosen . He directed ” the illusionist “

    • SpiritWitch120

He’s being optioned, he hasn’t been chosen just yet.

  • Cora

oh why… sorry that i’m hating but this book was awful.. I can think of so many other books I’d rather be turned into films.

    • Lauren

I finished Divergent and Insurgent each within 24 hours of starting it. They definitely are towards the top of my favorite books list!

    • Anna-FilmGirl

Oh my God, thank you. I agree, I didn’t like Divergent at all (slow plotting, predictable, so many stereotypes, so many unlikable characters..). It’s upsetting because it could have been a great book. I don’t mean to upset fans of Divergent, but I do think it’s far weaker than people make it out to be.

I kinda liked this book. For Tris, I kinda see Mae Whitman in my head for some reason (voice of Katara on Avatar:TLA, Michael Cera’s girlfriend on Arrested Development)

I’m so excited!! This is such a great book and it will make a great movie! I really have no idea who I want to be in it though.

Elle Fanning needs to be Tris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she could pull it off!

  • Lotte

    Taissa Famiga.

Even though I am not that excited about this news. Liked it, but not invested. I would rather see Delirium as a movie. But to each their own.

  • Kathleen

I’ve always imagined Four as a young Matt Dillon, which I realize is bizarre but I think it has to do with Four’s eyes being described as deep set. I agree with Crazy-Eight23, I think Elle Fanning would be great as Tris. I considered Chloe Grace Moretz as well, but I think my final pick would be Elle – I have trouble picturing Chloe being vulnerable

I can’t see anyone popular playing Tris. I can kind of see Taissa Farmiga or Mia Wasikowska as Tris, but idk about Four. Maybe Travis Caldwell?

  • MHutch

    So excited! Finally!

  • Rachie_angel97

i don’t know why but i always imagined matt smith as four….

  • Sara

I could totally see Skylar Samuels playing Tris, She has the right look and the attitude for the part.

  • Jeanne

I think Justin Hartley would be the perfect Four just dye his hair darker.

As long it’s not the actress from the secret life of the American teenager she wouldn’t fit the part of Beatrice. Maybe someone like Emma stone

I think Dakota fanning would make a good Beatrice

Max Irons as Four and Annasophia Robb as Tris!
