Doctor Who showrunner and Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat was a happy man last night, as both his shows won three of the top prizes at the TV Choice Awards.

Doctor Who once again scooped the Best Family Drama award, while Sherlock bagged itself Best Drama Series. Leading men Matt Smith (The Doctor) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes) battled it out for Best Actor, but in the end it was Cumberbatch who emerged victorious. Call The Midwife also won big, earning itself the Best New Drama award and Best Actress for comedian Miranda Hart.

Check out the full list of winners below.

Doctor Who‘s seventh series is currently airing on Saturdays in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada. Current companions Amy and Rory Pond (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill) bow out of the show at the end of this month, with newbie Jenna-Louise Coleman stepping into the TARDIS in this year’s Christmas special. Sherlock will return for a third series at some point next year, with filming slated for January (the delay has been caused in part by Martin Freeman shooting The Hobbit and Cumberbatch working on a mysterious Star Trek sequel).

Do you think Benedict deserved Best Actor, or should the award have gone to Matt Smith instead?

Benedict Cumberbatch definitely deserved Best Actor. He always seems to miss out; it’s like people are blind to his amazingness

he deserves recognition just for his lightning delivery alone – that is a serious skill

    No wins for Merlin :(

Wish Merlin could have just won something! Love that show…

The one thing Merlin is truly outstanding in is the chemistry between the boys. This is what earns the show its only real entertaining merit. Unfortunately, there is no Award for that, but if it were, Sherlock would take that, too, because Sherlock & Watson are even better. Other parts of Merlin are good, yeah, but great? Certainly not. Can you honestly suggest anything worthy of a “Best” Award? Merlin better than Doctor Who in the family entertainment area? Never. Effects? Not even close. Drama? The stories are mediocre at best, and always the same. The way any tiny development is streched out over years is frustrating. Actors? Colin better than Benedict?! Nope. And any chance for Katie to shine in the acting department has been made obsolete by forcing her to smirk into the camera at every opportunity. No, I´ve watched Merlin for hope of payoff, but so far only the Season 3 finale delivered something even close to what I would have wanted from that series. And Season 4 was a horrible step back.

I think Merlin and Arthur are great together and have a funny and honest friendship I LOVE to watch, but hell do I want Arthur to FINALLY find out about Merlin´s magic. The whole frakking series is based on this one premise, and it´s frustrating as hell.
