Hypable

It’s the most wonderful time of year: A new season of television is upon us, and Hypable’s gearing up to cover all your favorites.

We’re looking for a batch of new writers to cover particular fandoms for their community.

What does it mean to be a Hypable writer? Writers are volunteers who write about the fandoms they love. They are passionate and driven to cover the news for their fellow fans in a timely manner.

- 30 Rock
- Bones
- Dexter
- Modern Family
- Legend of Korra
- Walking Dead
- Pretty Little Liars
- New Normal
- Revenge
- Big Bang Theory
- Gossip Girl

Why write for Hypable?
We have a fun group of team members writing for us. A really fun group. You’ll be a part of a team who love writing about their fandoms and are just as driven as you are. We have a private online community where we talk and collaborate around the clock. In there, you’ll get to know your fellow writers well. Besides a great team you’ll also have the opportunity to have your work seen by tens of thousands of people around the world. It’s amazing resume material, and your dedication may open up other opportunities on Hypable and in the entertainment industry!

Writer requirements
Hypable writers must have a strong command of the English language. You are responsible for writing clearly, accurately, and with your own voice.

Hypable has strict writing guidelines to keep the site fun while also maintaining professionalism and order. A comprehensive list of guidelines will be given to you if you are accepted, and we’ll send you through a writer’s orientation to show you how we do things. We are also very insistent on following search engine optimization guidelines in order to ensure your content is seen by as many people on the Internet as possible.

One of the most important things you must know ahead of time: We have a 200-word minimum policy per post. We have a 300-word minimum for big news stories. We insist you only apply if you have the time to write 200-word (bare minimum!) posts and can continue covering all important news in your fandom. Don’t get too scared off, though. We have tips for how to easily expand your posts.

How to apply
In an e-mail to writers@hypable.com, please include…

- Your name, age, and location (these factors won’t determine your eligibility).
- Up to four of the above fandoms you’d be willing to cover. If you’re accepted, we will only assign you two or three.
- Why you have the time to cover these fandoms.
- Why you will make a great Hypable writer. We want to hear about your education and past experience, if any!
- Include examples of your previous work, if available.

Thanks for your time, and if accepted you’ll hear from us in a week! Please apply by Saturday, September 15.

2 questions: When do we have to get our applications in and are we able to only pick one fandom?

    • Shelby Walker

I was wondering the same thing. Out of those fandoms, I am really only familiar/caught-up on two (Walking Dead and Dexter)….

    • Lyle Weaver

If you’re not willing to read the article that says you may submit up to four fandoms, I have a feeling the position isn’t for you.

      • Shelby Walker

It’s always good to clarify a minimum amount… You didn’t have to be rude.

      • http://twitter.com/jackiewhitus Jackie Whitus

I just wanted clarification because it did say that you could have 2 or 3 fandoms. You don’t have to be rude about it. I only asked because I am only interested in the Big Bang Theory.

    • Karen Rought

We’d like to choose writers within a week, so the sooner the better! You CAN apply for just one fandom, but we’d like to see everyone working on a minimum of two, if possible. The best advice I can give is to just apply and see what happens. You might get lucky!

  • d3erudite

How long do I have to apply?

  • Phantomfluteplayer

Are the above fandoms the only ones we could write for, or could we write for other fandoms as well? For instance, one of my fandoms is Castle, which Hypable doesn’t even cover (at this point). I also follow Doctor Who (but I do realize you have a pretty good group of people covering that fandom.)

  • d3erudite

How long do I have to apply?

  • Riku

Hmmm I’m interested, but I don’t know if my writing capabilities are up to snuff.

    • Karen Rought

You never know until you try. You might be surprised!

Too bad there’s no openings for Once Upon A Time. =’(

  • Jael

I wish there was an opening for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

    • Arielle

      Agreed :)

dang, if there was an opening for Grey’s Anatomy I would apply just to apply. I would love to write for hypable, but I’m not sure if I’m necessarily what they would be looking for. But now I’m anxious to keep my eyes open if they need a writer for Grey’s Anatomy. I love a lot of other fandoms, but I am so engrossed with GA and already have a blog on tumblr about it. good luck to all who apply!

      What’s your blog?

  • Elphaba Thropp

I would really love to do this, but there’s one thing that I’ve always wondered about; Hypable is sort of a news website (news for fandoms), but how do you FIRST find out what’s going on? Would we be given websites and sources, or is that up to us to scour the web?

    • http://twitter.com/slasher777 Alex

      Exactly!
Would it be like reviewing the episodes and telling what we think of it, or for news?
Because if that’s the case, I have to admit that I use Hypable for that reason.

      • Ben

It would be both. Don’t worry about finding news, there will be staff members there to show you how to find news and give some of their tips.

  • Sarah

ARE there any openings for Once Upon a Time? Or The Hunger Games? Or anything else???

    • http://forgiveyourmind.tumblr.com/ Tariq

The only openings are the ones stated above!

  • Marly

Alas, I dislike all of those fandoms.

    • d3erudite

How can you dislike the hobbit and big bang theory?!?!

      • Marly

The Hobbit? I don’t see the Hobbit up there :( And I can’t stand Big Bang Theory. In my opinion, it’s just crap humor. But jut my opinion.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1128995453 Lauren Spellman

I would love to join the hypable team! I have applied and cannot wait to hopefully hear back!

  • Emily

    Why no Castle??? :(

    • Phantomfluteplayer

If they had an application for writing about Castle, I would totally cover it. Castle and Doctor Who are my two favorite shows on TV currently.

  • http://twitter.com/NiallJAdams Niall Adams

Sorry, but are these the only fandoms you definitely need. I’d love to be able to write for Hypable but I’m not that well-versed in any of these fandoms (other than Modern Family). However I could easily cover comic-books and Broadway theater (both fandoms I have a huge passion), if you ever need someone for these.

    • Ben

I’m sorry, but the fandoms listed are the only fandoms we need somebody to cover at the moment. We urge you to continue to check Hypable because we will post when we need a new writer and maybe a position will open up for a fandom you are interested in.

  • Janie

How much of a time commitment would this be?

    • https://twitter.com/#!/SonyaWrites Sonya Faria

It really depends on how many fandoms you chose to cover. But plan on a couple hours each day. It takes more time in the beginning once you gain more experience it will take less time

  • Steven

What if you want to cover a new fandom that isn’t on the list?

    • Ben

At this moment, we are not planning on covering any new fandoms that are not on this list or do not already have a current Hypable staff member covering them. All the uncovered fandoms we would like to cover are listed above.

  • zmartinez95

is there nothing for books in general? like book reviews? I think hypable should have more reviews on both new and old not just the ones that have all the hype or that are being made into movies. I would love to do something with books since i have a new one almost every week

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1128995453 Lauren Spellman

Will we hear from you in a week from when this article was posted, or a week from when applications were due?

  • http://www.hypable.com/author/clayton10ify/ Clayton

I applied, wonder what will happen

  • http://twitter.com/Shaftsword Shaft Almasy

It would have been nice to send out a e-mail to those who were unsuccessful in their applications it is just common courtesy even if you do say those accepted will be hearing from you in a week.
