The Hunger Games lead actress Jennifer Lawrence had some funny and serious remarks about the Mockingjay split decided upon by Lionsgate. Suzanne Collins’ final book will be turned into two films.
Lawrence was asked about the Mockingjay split for the first time at the Toronto International Film Festival being held this weekend in the Canadian city. The actress had reservations until she heard “how much money I would be getting,” the Washington Post reports she said with a “long laugh.”
She then explained why it should be split, coming to this conclusion after reading the book again. “You want everything in there, but you don’t have enough room, and you’re trying to decide what’s going to get cut and what isn’t. So it was a relief on the last one to know that we don’t really have to cut anything. We have enough time, we have enough room to really tell this story to the fullest, and we don’t need to cut anything.”
With that, she went back to the joking. “So that’s my artistic answer. It’s a very diplomatic answer. But what I’m really thinking is yacht, yacht. My own island.”
Splitting one book into multiple films has been the hot idea in Hollywood over the past few years. Warner Bros. led the charge with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and saw tremendous success. They then decided to split The Hobbit into three films, and Summit (now owned by Lionsgate) split Breaking Dawn.
