Harry Potter: Page to Screen is an exhaustive look at the making of the Harry Potter film series. A new Limited Edition version has appeared on Amazon and, like the ever-so-special Wizard’s Collection, includes a high price tag.

The Limited Edition features “never-before-published art and text chronicling the making of the Harry Potter films.” It includes five brand new volumes that show “how the team designed locations, graphics, costumes, creatures, and special effects.” Also within is a “deluxe book of the paintings of Hogwarts along with a keepsake book chronicling the lasting relationships between cast and crew.”

What else will you find? A replica of The Monster Book of Monsters, five frame-able concept art prints, and of course the original Page to Screen book.

The complete product breakdown

  • A deluxe cloth-covered case, styled to look like a box from a shop in Diagon Alley.
  • A replica of The Monster Book of Monsters film prop.
  • A gilded portfolio of five frame-able prints of original Harry Potter concept art.
  • A cloth-bound edition of Harry Potter: Page to Screen.
  • Seven additional volumes detailing the Harry Potter creative team’s ten years of extensive efforts:
    • The Creature Shop Compendium: Flora and fauna from the Harry Potter films.
    • Environments Envisioned: Building fantastic sets and scouting dramatic locations.
    • A Guide to the Graphic Arts Department: Posters, prints, and publications from the Harry Potter films.
    • Movie Magic: Practical props and exciting effects.
    • The Paintings of Hogwarts: Masterpieces from the school of witchcraft and wizardry sets.
    • Ten Years Later: Life on set with the Harry Potter cast and crew.
    • Wizard Wear and Muggle Attire: Costuming the world of Harry Potter.

As for the price, Amazon currently lists it at £552 which converts to $883. We have a feeling this is not the actual price, but you can bet that it will be high, given all of the material within this box. The original Page to Screen book currently retails brand new for over $100 on Amazon.

Only 3,000 copies will be made available, and at this time this product is only appearing in the Amazon U.K. store. It will be available December 4, 2012 – just in time for Christmas!

Thanks to Danny for the tip.

Wow. Another HP thing that I already bought that now has a ‘better version’ coming out. I feel like HP merch is now like iPhones….as soon as you spend a bunch of money to get this nice, new thing, a more expensive ‘better’ phone comes out. We’re never gonna win. I’m just so fed up with all this stuff by now. I’m definitely not buying it if it does come to the U.S. I’m perfectly happy with my regular Page to Screen and regular HP Film Wizardry.

      • TheHamburglar

Just because there is a better version of something doesn’t mean you have to buy it. That’s why I’ve been a confused HP fan the past few months. Everyone seems to be complaining about high price tags as if they are being forced to buy it, but I have had no desire to either buy it or complain about it. Also, I’m a little confused about what exactly you are complaining about with things being updated. If things were never updated, everyone would have the non-updated item and businesses would fail because they wouldn’t have any sales. It’s really that simple.

        • Andrew_ww

WB is doing this to try and make fans buy multiple copies. Anyways, someone would have to be crazy to buy this.

          • Delena

Exactly. That’s why I’m pissed. I wish they would just release copies with everything in them. I mean, for Film Wizardry it makes sense because that came out before the final movie did, but Page to Screen came out after everything was out- they had nothing to hold back! They only held back because they wanted to make money. I’m not saying they’re forcing us to buy stuff, I know I don’t have to buy it, but I WANT to. It’s just annoying that we have to spend extra money for something that a lot of us already have most of.

        • A.P.W.B.Dumbledore

The only reason i want the Wizard’s Collection is because i still only have the 1st movie as a vcr and 2-4 arent that great of quality. Also only have 3 of movies have the special features. I dont have $350 to be able to buy it which stinks but i do want it because i dont have any of it really, only a few of the features.

      • http://twitter.com/xhpfanatic Grace Chen

well, the thing is, in this case, it really is a “better version” and includes all these new parts. I definitely want it as I don’t have the first one!

    • Hermione Granger

Page to Screen was an amazing book. This looks even more amazing, but the price is simply ridiculous. I think it was only like $65 for the first edition so seriously, if it’s over $200 it’s overpriced.

    • http://twitter.com/emilyecstasyTM Emily Bryan

Seeing recent price tags for HP items just makes me want to cry. I know I don’t /have/ to buy it but it’s still ridiculous :/

    • upper_westsider

$883?? When they call it a “limited edition”, limited must refer to the number of sales they’re expecting. In the beginning, I bought EVERY Harry Potter DVD. Then I noticed how only months later, WB would offer a “new and improved” edition of what I had bought. I LOVE Harry Potter, I have DVDs of all the films, and I’m very happy with that!

    • http://about.me/dshana Shana Debusschere

Well, it does look amazing, but there’s no way I’m spending $800 on this.

    • http://www.facebook.com/aaccss Alex Smith

I think everyone’s with me when I say “what?! what?! $800?! what?!”

I’ll get this if the actual price is under $200 and after I see pics.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

$200 is a good deal for all that stuff. Say the cloth bound book itself is $100

The rest is at least $200 by themselves. I’m not hopeful that this collection will be cheap.

    • http://twitter.com/ceilidh_brenzzz Ceilidh Brennan

I always love watching how they created the films – I find that all the work and details put into the films are fascinating and amazing! But I already own the Page to Screen book (on sale for only $50 too!) and the price tag is waaaaaay too steep for me to even consider purchasing it. Maybe if the set was in the $100 range (which I know it will never be) I would buy it, but as an 18 year old full-time student, that’s just not in my budget.
On a side note, I saw the Wizard’s Collection behind the counter at HMV yesterday…that thing is as big as it’s price tag!

    • Ultron

I would this. If I could afford it.

    • https://www.youtube.com/TheBabarSuhail Babar Suhail

$800+!!!!! Are you freaking kidding me?!?!?!

    • SpiritWitch120

I’d buy this if it went down to about £250 … even though I can afford that price, even I wouldn’t pay £500+ for it.

    • Mdrich94

I am so tired of all of these HP products with rediculous price tage. They’re just taking advantage of the fandom, because they know people will buy them. It frustrates someone like me, because as a poor college student I can’t afford to buy this, even though as a huge fan, I really want to. They don’t have to make these be so expensive, but they just want to milk all the money they can out of fans. Because I guess they haven’t made enough money already.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

i think WB is trying to catch up. They didn’t exactly have lots of advertisement on their merchandise during the big Potter years 2001 – 2010. During all that hype when the final books haven’t even been released yet. I don’t think they capitalized on the franchise’s potential to make millions – not like the Twilight franchise did. Now they are scrambling to release all this super collections at a super high cost.

        • Delena

Oh please, they do not need to catch up on ANYTHING. They’re rich as hell from Harry Potter. They’ve been selling plenty of merch since 2001- I know I’ve been buying stuff since then.

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

it’s different for me. I’ve never bought anything from them other than the dvds. The books don’t count…you’ve got to have the books

            • alyssavanskyock

From all the money they made from the movies and merchandise, they are doing fine financially. The obly reason they are pricing these things so high is because they want more money. They don’t care they we are in a recession and majority of people can’t afford to pay this huge price tag. They just want more money. If you plan on buying it, I hope you are either rich or have an extremely well thought out budget. My personal opinion is that anyone who buys this is either an extreme fan and would rather go broke then miss out on this; or you are just plain stupid to pay that price for something that I can guarantee you isn’t worth even half that price.

    • VideoKilledSeverusSnape

WHAATTTTTTT? No. I can’t even afford the original one, let alone this “new and improved” one.

    • Camken

I bought Page to Screen for $50.

      • DJ Duncan

        I got mine for $25

Harry Potter: Page to Screen Limited Edition. It’s more expensive than your textbooks this semester, but you know you want it. ; )

    • Katie

Darn it! I got my Page to Screen book for $75… no way am I paying $800 for this (despite how cool it looks)

    • ErinAdrienne

This is crazy. And unfair. How do they expect us to pay that?! I’d really appreciate if they made something cool for the just really big fans. Not the really big RICH fans.

    • http://twitter.com/ClaudioCatino CCMASTER_01

Is this even frickin’ worth it? I didn’t think so. If you think so, then you deserve to be ripped off. -_-

    • emgmpg

I’m starting to think Warner Bros. forgot we are in a recession…

    • http://twitter.com/twixie09 Lauren Gizzi

Why does WB think it’s okay to continually extort the HP fans? They’re essentially biting the hand that fed them. This collection sounds really nice, but the $883 price tag is RIDICULOUS. Even if I had that kind of money, I STILL wouldn’t consider buying it for that much. I love Harry Potter with all of my heart, but I am NOT okay with this kind of money-gouging. But the sad part is that I know people will still buy it and continue to tell Warner Bros. that this is alright with us. I can’t express how disgusting WB is to me, now.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

ha….and i was wanting to buy the original book, trying to find a cheap copy of it for $30. that book is already massive! It’s the size of a phone book and weighs as much.

    • NightStrike91

Ok, seriously guys! This is hardly taking advantage of the fandom. How is providing a huge amount of extra stuff only greed? It’s not like it’s new writing from Jo or deleted scenes from the movies, exclusive to this set for a hefty price. The price is hefty, but the contents do match the price. This is not something the fandom has craved. It’s not something every Harry Potter fan would need. I could to some extent understand the feelings towards the Wizard’s Collection, but this?

If you need this so much than cough up and enjoy but don’t blame WB for unfairness. If they release an even greater edition of the film series or if JK Rowling would charge $500 for a Marauder prequel I would gladly burn down something, but for something as trivial as this which adds absolutely nothing to the HP mythology and should really only appeal to Harry Potter fans with a passion for general film making, I cannot understand why everyone’s so upset. It is not your right as a fan to receive high quality film props and interviews with one of the set decorators at all, absolutely not for a bargain just because you as a struggling college student can’t afford to have a collection of all merchandise available. The only thing a fan can demand are the original book series and a complete definitive collection of the movies. Everything else is just extras and we should be thankful that they give us all these oppertunities to engage in the wizardly world of Harry Potter.

      • PotionWillow207

Except that it’s not high quality film props. Read the description; it’s a replica. And we’re not asking for a bargain. We’re asking for a reasonable price. Being from Louisiana, this reminds me so much of gas stations raising the price of gasoline or grocery stores raising the price of groceries right before a hurricane. It’s called price gouging, and it is illegal. Too bad we can’t say the same for this, and that there are some stupid people who will actually waste their money on this and encourage WB to continue.

        • Zack

Um…don’t call people stupid if they spend their hard earned money on this. Just because YOU don’t like the set or don’t think the price matches the product, doesn’t mean that others wouldn’t buy it. And it doesn’t mean its a waste of money or that they are stupid. If it brings you happiness than it is worth every penny.

        • BritishHobo

Haha what? This is nothing like your example. It’s ridiculous. How on earth could you ever put a Harry Potter book on the same level as gasoline?

      • alyssavanskyock

So your saying that Warner Brothers is a saint because they are giving us this set of merchandise out of the goodness of their hearts? Are you naive or just plain ass stupid?? I don’t care how much I love Harry Potter. I would rather not go bankrupt and not be able to pay for college just to get an $800 overpriced set. My honest opinion.

        • BritishHobo

You don’t have to buy it. Warner Bros aren’t making these things as ‘something Harry Potter fans are legally required to buy’. If you don’t want it or you can’t afford it, don’t buy it.

          • alyssavanskyock

The entire reason for them to produce this is so that people can buy it. How do you expect people to buy it if it is ridicously expensive?

      • BritishHobo

“The contents match the price.” Yeah, people seem to forget this. They react like ‘how do you expect me to afford this?’ Well, they don’t. The product isn’t designed specifically to be ‘a thing you can buy for cheap’. Everyone seems to think they’re owed stuff, and that everything that comes out should be dirt-cheap, no matter how big or luxurious it is.

Also just for the record, the page is gone from Amazon.co.uk. Guess we’ll see what happens next.

    • http://twitter.com/xhpfanatic Grace Chen

      I. WANT. THIS!

    • http://www.facebook.com/iDomi Domi Ed

…Hell NO. $800? Thats more then my rent. wtf are you trying to pull WB?

    • http://twitter.com/BeccaPhoenix16 Rebecca Feliciano

      Dear WB,
Harry Potter fans are not rich.

      A poor fan girl :(

    • Lucia

I have the original Page to Screen and it sucks to see newer editions of this sort of stuff coming out. I would never pay THAT much for the limited edition, but they manipulate the fact that fans will buy the product, and then when the newer one is released, buy it too so they have the ‘complete collection’, as such. I won’t be getting this unless its a gift to me, but I’m still disappointed that the merch overload is taking over the whole franchise

    • Oliver Brown

Potter-fans, please do not buy this. do not support them on this, do not vote with your wallet! That will only show them they can sell them with this price tag. I promise y’all, they won’t stop doing this if you support it.

    • ncnapper92

My mom got me Page to Screen for $50 as a gift. It is nice but I never would have even paid $50 dollars for it. So $800 is laughable.

    • Zack

2 days after the $500 Wizard’s Collection is released, an $800 book set is announced. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=607519910 Catherine Lai

      Gotta outdo that Wizard’s collection…

    • BatKid152

    • Bookwormsociety

It’s beginning to feel like WB is ripping us off. It just seems like, even though Potterheads have come to expect a high price tag on Potter merch, now they’re just taking it WAY too far. With the Wizard’s Collection, and now this, it’s kind of getting ridiculous. How do they expect ANYONE to spend that much money on something?? It would be one thing if they sold these things separately, for fans who’ve already purchased the content but want the extras, but no, we have to spend way more than some of us can afford to get the same content plus a little bit more. I just think they’d be much more successful if they sold the items separately for less money. I’d definitely be more inclined to buy them.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

I’d wouldn’t pay $800 this set and the dvd set together.

    • Migs

I can’t even afford the original edition without asking my parents for money and then this?

    • http://twitter.com/brihannah Bri

the links no longer work so either they figured that was too much or the preorder sold out?
