Husbands, the online sitcom by Brad Bell and Once Upon a Time and Buffy writer Jane Espenson, will soon be available to experience in comic book form.
Only two episodes into its second season, Husbands has already made a real splash in the entertainment industry. The comedy show is a prime example of quality, powerful programming made available through online television as opposed to a traditional television network.
Starring Brad Bell, Sean Hemeon and Caprica‘s Alessandra Torresani, the series follows newlywed celebrities Cheeks and Brady as they struggle with the unwanted media attention.
Backed by the forces of the Whedonverse, Husbands has seen guest appearances both by Joss Whedon himself and several stars from his series, including Amber Benson and Emma Caulfield.
Now, you can experience Husbands in a whole new way: like Whedon’s creations Buffy and Firefly, Husbands will soon be a comic book! Released by Dark Horse, the new comic book promises to take the concept even further than the show does.
As Jane Espenson tells The Insider, “The comic books are going to totally dive into a whole [alternate-universe] premise. So we’re going from genre-curious to full-on genre!” It is written by Espenson and Bell, and features art by Ron Chan.
Espenson is no stranger to comic book writing, having worked on the Buffy comics, where she contributed the “Retreat” chapter as well as a one-off about the character Harmony.
This six episode digital comic series kicks off when Brady and Cheeks receive a mysterious wedding present, which starts a journey of comedic adventures, that will help them adjust to their new life together.
Brad Bell enthuses that, “We realized that with the iconic worlds we were drawing from, and with the dazzling artwork that we are seeing from the artists, that these stories have… I guess the word is integrity — that they stand on their own as genuinely kick-ass comics.”
The first Husbands comic will be available on October 24, for 0.99$.
