Every fandom has its fair share of unique moments and interesting stories. Today we’ll be diving into the top 10 moments that make you proud, and at times embarrassed, to be a fellow Potterhead.

‘Harry Potter’ Tattoos

We’ve all probably considered getting our favorite fandom permanently inked onto our skin, but most of us usually decide not to. Little do you know that there’s an entire tumblog dedicated to fans who’ve committed to the fandom by way of skin and ink. Take a look at the crazy designs fans are getting inked into their skins!

The delay of ‘Harry Potter’ has ruined my life

Remember when Warner Bros. committed fan-sin and delayed the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? This Facebook group did, and they went so far as to say it ruined their entire lives. They thought Warner Bros. was torturing them with the wait time, but clearly this is before they saw the price of the ultimate box set. We imagine their reaction to the delay to be similar to the girl above.

Adoption offer for Tom Felton

One thing we could all probably admit to is wanting the cast of Harry Potter to be a part of our family, whether that’s through marriage or adoption. This fan was so serious about the offer he legally changed his name to Lucius, and his house is called Malfoy Manor. Take a look at the video as Tom explains his situation.

Harry Potter himself!

This guy calls himself Harry Potter, but we’re not fooled! Definitely one of the biggest Potter fans, he has three entire rooms filled with Potter memorabilia, as well as a wardrobe that can consist of entirely Potter clothes for three whole months. Is this the real Harry Potter? Judge for yourself in his homemade YouTube video.

#1 ‘Potter’ Fan

If you thought that the “real Harry Potter” must be the world’s biggest Potter fan, you haven’t seen this yet. Kana won a Japanese contest to meet the cast of Harry Potter, and her reaction to the Sorting Hat alone proves her pudding as the number one Harry Potter fan.

    :’) so beautiful

Love it! Watching the Wizarding World video almost had me in tears. I remember seeing Hogwarts for the first time and feeling like my dreams had come true.

And Quidditch!!! I absolutely ADORE Quidditch (I play for my university)! I have to say, though, that the video y’all chose to represent the sport is not a very good one, in my opinion :-/. Doesn’t show any real playing at all and makes it seem kinda like role-playing (which it’s not).

Just found this video, and though it’s a promo for HBP film, it does a MUCH better job of showing off actual Quidditch (without just showing a full game).

Awesome article, though! It’s nice to be reminded how strong the love of Potter really is and how we Potterheads aren’t going anywhere :).

I love AVPS!! But I have to say “The War” HP music video made me literally like sob. It still makes me cry every time. It’s amazingly powerful, and reminds us of the years that have passed since it all began, and how the magic continues on.

I think Harry Potter is something people live and experience rather than just like. Harry Potter has touched lives in such a way that the books and legacy will live on. People forget how long we have been reading Shakespeare and Greek and Roman playwrights and philosophizers. How we still read Charles Dickens and JRR Tolkien. Harry Potter has made it’s mark in history, impermanently.

I know it’s a small thing, but my favorite moment of the fandom uniting in our love for Potter was when the thousands of fans in Trafalgar Square starting chanting “Thank you!” to JK Rowling when she gave her speech at the DH2 premiere. I was sitting at my computer at home 3000 miles away saying it with them.
    Real life magic.

My favorite is the video of the Japanese girl. She has the funniest reaction to meeting Daniel! I remember that my reaction was almost the same when I met Daniel myself.

I’m glad to know I’m not the only fan. I mean, when I’m around some people they just think my obsession is stupid, but I am not alone!

  • normalizboring

    did anyone else cry?

  • maike

The Harry Potter Alliance should absolutely be mentioned here as well. It is a non-profit organisation that fights real life horcruxes like global warming, poverty, and genocide. Among other things they raised over $ 123,000 to help the vitctims of the Haiti earthquakes in 2010. With that money they were able to send cargo planes (named Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Dumbledore) with medical supplies to the country. I think that is pretty imressive and not just a dedication to the fandom but to the values and virtues which are transported through the books.

This is a great article that made me even more proud to be a Harry Potter fan. Always.

Harry Potter is to our generation what Star Wars was to another. These characters are and will always be remembered in pop culture much like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo. The fandoms are also quite similar too in their devotion. I remember as a kid (Big Star Wars fan) hearing about the lines and the excitement for those movies and wishing I could have been a part of that back in 1977. Yeah, we have popular series today, and yes the prequels were popular. But nothing was really quite to that insane, seemingly unattainable level. Now, looking back on it I see that I did get to relive that excitement through Harry Potter. Going to the Midnight book releases of Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows. Not to mention the movies too, lining up at the theater sometimes 6 hours before the premier of the movie. Harry Potter is something special because the whole world knows the story and the characters. Many films and books have received much popularity since (The Hunger Games and Twilight come to mind) But I feel neither have gotten the attention of the world quite like Harry Potter did. Maybe one day the “Next Harry Potter” will be released either through film, books, or any other medium and I’ll be able to relive that excitement again through my children. Until then, I’m very happy I was able to be a part of that generation. The one that grew up with Harry Potter.

expect there will come a time 5, 12, 20 years from now when you will want to take down all the Harry Potter posters and leggo sets from your rooms and get the ink removed. do you still listen to the same music or watch the same movies as when HP came out?
