With all the new characters joining Game of Thrones in season 3, fans might worry that the show will be dropping some of the supporting cast members. But three actors have been confirmed as returning. Beware of potential spoilers.

Winter is Coming is reporting that Josef Altin (Pyp), Luke McEwan (Rast) and Ian McElhinney (Ser Barristan Selmy) have all been confirmed for season 3.

Pyp was one of the Black Brothers who befriended Jon in season 1, but he was left behind on the Wall when Jon, Sam and the others traveled north. Rast is also a member of the Night’s Watch, but has not been seen since season 1.

Ser Barristan Selmy hasn’t been seen since the first season either; he was a knight of the Kingsguard, but forced into exile when Joffrey succeeded Robert Baratheon as king. Wonder where he’ll be popping up…?

We’re just glad to see these three characters return amidst all the new faces!

I’m thrilled! this means it’s very likely they’ll be sticking to the books!

I mean they always do their best to stick with the books, and I think with Book 3 being spread across two seasons (though I imagine Season 4 will have a great portion of certain character’s stories from the beginnings of books 4 & 5) we will get a season that is more faithful than Season 2.

Super excited for good ol’ Ser Barristan.

Knew Barristan would be back, but I wonder how they will play his return in the show…as they can not play it off the same was as they did in the books.

Same thing I thought. Its going to be different but I think id like it better if he just came back and as himself and cut the foreplay
