The BBC have confirmed that Doctor Who will return on September 1 (with the series likely to air on BBC America later the same day), they’ve also released official synopses for the first three episodes!

“Asylum of the Daleks” will kick the series off on BBC One in the UK, with the next four episodes airing on the subsequent Saturdays of the month. If the BBC America schedule for that date is anything to go by, the series opener will be broadcast at 9 p.m. EST, following a marathon of series 6 (although the premiere hasn’t been officially announced for the States, the mysterious gap in an otherwise full schedule seems evidence enough).

But that’s not all! We also have the full synopsis for “Asylum of the Daleks,” “Dinosaurs on a Spaceship,” and “A Town Called Mercy”!

“From Daleks to Dinousaurs and an alien with a grudge, this series features a whole host of guest stars, including: David Bradley, Rupert Graves, Stephen Berkoff, Mike McShane, Ben Browder, Adrian Scarbourgh and Anamaria Marinca.”

Episode 1: Asylum Of The Daleks

“Kidnapped by his oldest foe, the Doctor is forced on an impossible mission – to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter… the Asylum. A planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of their kind, the Doctor and the Ponds must find an escape route. But with Amy and Rory’s relationship in meltdown, and an army of mad Daleks closing in, it is up to the Doctor to save their lives, as well as the Ponds’ marriage.”

Episode 2: Dinosaurs On A Spaceship

“An unmanned spaceship hurtles towards certain destruction – unless the Doctor can save it, and its impossible cargo… of dinosaurs! By his side a ragtag gang of adventurers; a big game hunter, an Egyptian Queen and a surprised member of the Pond family. But little does the Doctor know there is someone else onboard who will stop at nothing to keep hold of his precious, prehistoric cargo.”

Episode 3: A Town Called Mercy

The Doctor gets a Stetson (and a gun!), and finds himself the reluctant Sheriff of a Western town under siege by a relentless cyborg, who goes by the name of the Gunslinger. But who is he and what does he want? The answer seems to lie with the mysterious, Kahler-Jex, an alien doctor (yes another one!) whose initial appearance is hiding a dark secret.

How do you feel knowing we’re only 17 days away from another Doctor Who adventure!?

YOU’RE only 17 days away.  In Australia, we have to wait for the 8th of September to get our Doctor Who D:

    • Annon

or just download it once it comes out in the UK

  • Dlmarvin05

    YAY! :D

  • grapes9h5

WOW i think Series 7, even just the first 5, is gonna be perhaps The Doctor’s finest hours yet. I mean once we are in 2013, they darn well better be, but i feel as though the overarching story for even just these first 5 is gonna be something epic and heartbreaking.

  • http://www.facebook.com/vijeta.walke Vijeta Walke

    Hells yeah!

  • Russell

    This is absolutely FABULOUS!

  • N_HarryPotter7

I’ve recently to start to get into Doctor Who so I’m starting at the 9th Doctor (series 1).  I have a long ways to go before I’ll be at the current series!  Or should I start at a more recent series so I don’t have to watch as many; if someone could please tell me?

    • http://profile.yahoo.com/GRLOHJCRB2AMHDCJKTNGYBXCMU Shotgun

I caught up to the series a while ago. Start from series 1 though. The series gets better as it progresses.

    • Teranel

If you really want to jump into the new series quicker, you could start with series 5 (the beginning of the 11th Doctor). But then you should definitely go back and watch series 1 to 4 at some point because they’re really good.

      • Annon

Watch 1963 onwards, that is all

    • belac889

       I watched the first episode of season 1 and then watched season 5, 6, 2, 3, 4, 4b, then 1.
4b is the specials planet of the dead, waters of mars, and end of time

    • http://twitter.com/greeneggsplusam Sam

START AT NINE. Do NOT skip Nine or Ten. You really get to see the development of The Doctor and the story across the seasons. I highly encourage you to start watching as soon as possible, it’s amazing and I just finished watching the series a few weeks ago. I hope you love it!

      • N_HarryPotter7

Thanks (and to everyone else that responded)!  I’ll definitely keep going with what I’ve watched of nine then.  Looks like I have a big Doctor Who-athon ahead of me!

      • Annon

START AT ONE. Do NOT skip 1-8. You really get to see the development of The Doctor and the story across ALL of the seasons. I highly encourage you to start watching as soon as possible, it’s amazing, I have almost finished watching the series (I only have The Doctor the Widow and the Wardrobe to go – although I have seen it before). I hope you love it!

    • http://twitter.com/hausofkoone hausofkoone

you won’t want to skip the 10th Doctor!

      • Rose

    • Annon

Its fantastic that you are getting into doctor who, congratulations! but don’t start at series 1, start at season 1 (1963), its much better that way (starting with the 1st doctor) :) Enjoy!

    • Alexander

“So I won’t have to watch as many.” You’re talking about it like it’s a chore…. Trust me, you don’t want to miss any of them.

      • N_HarryPotter7

No, no, no, it wouldn’t be a chore. I recently rented series 1 and 2 and I’m going to do almost a marathon of them (and then try to watch all of series 3, 4, 5, and 6) I just wanted to know which Doctor would be the best to start at to really understand the series and become a Whovian.

    • http://twitter.com/QonainH Kony Chi Wa

If i was you Iwould watch all the series from the season 1 (9th Doctor), because then you will get to know whats going on in the world of The Doctor….

  • Elphaba Thropp

I have to wait until it comes on Netflix, as we currently have no tv :( Anyone want to put it on the tube of you for me?

    • Teranel

if you’re willing to pay a couple of dollars per episode, it should be up on iTunes/Amazon Instant Video likely the day after it airs. Methinks that’s what I’ll end up doing.

      • Annon

or you could just find a torrent and download it, I mean cough cough, pirating videos is like stealing a car or something, don’t do it

    • belac889

       You have the internet right

    • Kitkat822

       BBC Iplayer!

      • Elphaba Thropp

        What’s that?

        • Kitkat822

Its a website in the UK: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
If you can get on that a couple of hours after the episode has aired you can watch it for free.

  • guest

    BBC hasn’t confirmed it…

    • Wise Ood

Are you Steven Moffat? Sorry, weird question.

  • Ali

With the Doctor Who specials that BBC America has been airing for the past few weeks, I was wondering if we might get Season 7 starting soon.  Bring it..I’m ready.

  • Melania Antoine

I can’t wait for the 7th itn better be kick but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cstoriz

Anyone know if season 7 will be available for purchase on itunes?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=673982809 Irfon Pennant Williams

Gap in the schedule DOES NOT mean that Doctor Who will take up that slot. And the BBC has confirmed nothing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=673982809 Irfon Pennant Williams
    • https://twitter.com/#!/HarriFSargeant Harri Sargeant

Notice the lack of drama? BBC publish drama listing 10 days ahead of broadcast.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=673982809 Irfon Pennant Williams

Notice the lack of confirmation? which this article claims the BBC have done

      • Cblakebrough

Sept 1st seems a good possibility but it’s not yet “confirmed by the BBC”

  • Taichou

GRAH I’m gonna be at Dragon*Con and will be in a hotel…which probally won’t have BBCA :(

  • Wise Ood

    It hasn’t been confirmed.

  • Ellyluvavril

  • aphi

I hope this won’t be silly season

    • http://twitter.com/Josh_MFord Joshua Ford

Na. It wont be silly because RTD isn’t head writer anymore, Moffat is! This season will be a masterpiece just like series 5 & 6 was!

      • http://twitter.com/TimeLordSociety Time Lord Society

Someone with a head on his shoulders! That doesn’t think RTD and Tennant/Rose are gods! You’re more than welcome to join us in the @TimeLordSociety on Twitter! Cheers.

        • http://twitter.com/Josh_MFord Joshua Ford

  • Jane

when do we get a NEW docotor?? matt smith is great but we need a new one!

    • http://twitter.com/Josh_MFord Joshua Ford

”WE” don’t need a new one! You might need a new one, but the the fans don’t! Matt is amazing…even better than Tennant because Matt actually acts alien and doctory!

    • Lolable222

no we dont no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no

    • Bt Willetts

       I Don’t Think So

    • Ralison23

speak for yourself! do not say “we” unless the majority of doctor who fans agree that matt has been on for too long (which might not be for awhile.)
and if he’s great, then why in the world do you want to end a great thing???

      • http://twitter.com/TimeLordSociety Time Lord Society

I’d personally like to see him break Baker’s record!

      • Andrewbridge91

        Matt is a great Doctor!

    • Vaulter96

Totally agree and according to this:

This will be his last season cause he is going to try and movie to Hollywood.

  • http://twitter.com/TimeLordSociety Time Lord Society

Where is the confirmation by the BBC. I would like a link please. I have NOT seen this confirmation.

  • http://twitter.com/TimeLordSociety Time Lord Society

#Who_News reports that Series 33 of Doctor Who will air 1st September at 7:20pm.

  • Markyab

The IMDB website says 25th Aug is episode 1. But other sites are saying 1st Sept. As long as it’s soon, who cares. For those who don’t like Matt Smith i suggest you go from a WHO-VER to a Hoover vacuum cleaner and suck up to kids’ programmes as Dr Who is too scary for you.

    • ffionr

Its being shown in a festival to a small crowd of people (known from personal experience, saw the first episode of the Doctor an Martha about a week before it was aired on tv). Then its being aired on television.

  • aphi

The conclusions of series 5 & 6 were ridiculous. Major let downs. When SM stops trying to be more over-the-top than RTD, maybe we can get good drama and adventure with just the right balance of cleverness to make a great Who season. A vast universe and all of time to play with and we get more Daleks? Really? Not a good sign.

I only just read about Mary Tamm (R.I.P.). Brigadier, Sarah Jane and Romana. Sad year for Tom Baker and the Whoverse.

  • mtip1010@hotmail.com

ive seen every episode of doctor who even the 1971 on down big fan and just tyn c when season 7 starts
