At EA’s press conference at Gamescom in Cologne, we got a little more information about the 2013 reboot of the classic Maxis franchise, SimCity. A new trailer highlighted some of the mulitplayer and social features that look to form a core part of gameplay.
Maxis’ Jordan Edelstein briefly talked through a couple of key parts of SimCity‘s gameplay: the multiple ways the player can specialise cities (university towns, industrial complexes, etc.), economics, resource and population management, and the consequences of putting in all those bendy roads.
The most significant part of the presentation was a new trailer which unveiled SimCity World – a kind of social hub where you can play SimCity with your friends or people from anywhere in the world. Leaderboards and rankings give it an unmistakably Facebooky feel, but the dozens of different graphs and charts reassure us that this is a SimCity game.
