Back in April we reported that Twilight star Kristen Stewart had signed on for the “gritty actioner” Cali, which was scheduled to film in “late Summer.” It now appears that in the post-scandal world Kristen has changed her mind, backing out of the film.

Variety’s Josh Dickey confirmed that news that was first reported by Gossip Cop, who also reports that The Rum Diary star Amber Heard is being sought to replace Stewart. Dickey referred to this report as being “premature.”

The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes is helming the project, and was reportedly seeking to team up Stewart and Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) as the lead couple. Here’s the synopsis for the film, for those of you who missed our inital report on the project:

Michael Diliberti (“30 Minutes or Less”) wrote the script, which follows Mya (Stewart) and Chris, a pair of San Fernando Valley lovebirds with a penchant for bad choices and dangerous behavior. After selling a fake snuff film featuring Mya, they ride off into the sunset with a bundle of cash. Years later, Mya must “return from the dead” to save the younger sister she left behind in Cali, where the young couple contends with angry former business partners, homicidal porn stars, stoner vet techs, an unstoppable killing machine in a cowboy hat and their own contentious relationship.

This is the latest instance of Kristen Stewart clearing her near-future schedule following the tabloid-crushing scandal involving Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, but we won’t go over it again here. Are you disappointed to see Kristen leave the role?

The more things Kristin Stewart is not attached to, the better.

  • Bikkun

Do like the combination of Stewart and Pettyfer!

Best thing that ever happened to Cali.

  • nicole

I think she made an unprofessional move.

  • Sarah

Stewart has a bad rap from being in the Twilight films, but to be honest I just think that was because Bella was a TERRIBLE role to play. Stewart has done really well in her many indie films, and I like her best in roles like Cali. I’m not particularly disappointed, because I’ve never heard of Cali, but I’m not cheering either. I just hope the movie turns out as interesting as its premise.

    • Liderc

Agreed. She’s done fine in other movies. Adventureland was a great movie and she did a good job in it.

      • http://benchpressabear.tumblr.com Joan

I like Adventureland. I’m not sure how much of me liking it has to do with Kristen, though. Great director, great script, great cast (Martin Starr!). It’s just a good movie to the core.

I have to disagree, she was the main character in Speak, a book that is beloved by millions, and she did not do well at all.

      • Sarah

Speak was a terrible made-for-TV movie. It wasn’t Stewart who ruined it. It was the entire film that sucked. And that’s hardly the indie films I was talking about.

    • http://benchpressabear.tumblr.com Joan

I don’t think has given an arguably stellar performance since Into the Wild.  Indie or not, she has been over hyped (pun intended!) by the people that think she does really well just as much as she is overly critiqued by those who don’t enjoy her as actress. I don’t think she’s terrible. I don’t think she’s that compelling of an actress either. Bella is a terrible character, I give you that, yet Stewart chose to play it…

“This is the latest instance of Kristen Stewart clearing her near-future schedule following the tabloid-crushing scandal involving Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders” and then saying “but we won’t go over it again here” makes you look a bit stupid, for doing the exact thing you just said you weren’t going to do.

    • Guestz

They meant details. Don’t be mean, you didn’t have to comment.

  • Glaciusx

LOL, GOOD. She’s a terrible actress and maybe now that movie will be worth watching now that miss marble-face is out of the picture.

    • DansTonChat

LOL, how old are you? 15? Any cinephile, withoTITIut being a hater, would say the same thing about Pattinson. You can’ t tell a difference in his acting betweem his movies. I’ve seen Bel Ami (which is quite an insult to Maupassant’s work) and Cosmopolis (I live in Paris so yes I’ve seen it) which are two movies with two extremly different contexts and guess what? Same faces o.O… weird… or not.

      • DansTonChat

        *without

      • Glaciusx

I don’t like Robert Pattinson either. In fact, I’m not really a fan of anyone who is in Twilight. I’m not really surprised at the fact that he acts the same in all of his movies. The only decent actress in those films is Dakota Fanning. By the way, what does age have to do with anything?

        • DansTonChat

Ok, great then. Your first comment made me think that you were one of the hardcore  teen fans of Pattinson (a just-to-be-mean comment), my bad. At least I agree with you about Dakota Fanning

i still can’t believe she was the highest paid actress in hollywood last year.  What a joke. I mean, she can act, sometimes.  But highest paying? Jeesh

  • Angela Karni
