Filming for the upcoming second season of Smash began in July, and we now have our first look at Newsies star Jeremy Jordan’s role in the NBC musical drama.

Broadway.com captured the shot of Katharine McPhee (Karen) and Jordan filming a scene together on location in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood July 30.

Check out the full-size photo at Broadway.com.

Jordan joined the cast in June and will play a “very sexy (and straight) Brooklyn-born singer with a self-destructive streak,” according to TVLine.

“I think I’m bringing a young male energy to it, which I don’t think they really had in the first season,” Jordan told Broadway.com. “They wanted sexy energy—at least that’s what they told me.”

Smash returns at midseason. Will Jordan’s character try to win over Karen’s heart now that Dev’s gone?

Midseason?! UGH! I hate having to wait that long. Someone needs to invent a TV show that has new episodes every week, 52 weeks a year. Summer breaks and hiatus are incredibly frustrating as a fan already, and now a huge break in between season 1 and 2 just so it can come back midseason? Someone stop this madness!

Haha, try having six-episode-series that appear once a year like we do in Britain!! :)
