Many Harry Potter fans were anticipating the opening of Pottermore for the sake of the social media aspect, as well as the new content. Though many fans were disapointed with the lack of social interaction on Pottermore, never fear. A new site called myHogwarts is here to provide the social media we all wanted from Pottermore.
Upon registering, you get to make a profile with your real name, choose your house, then be put into a dorm with 14 other people from your house. Dorm Message boards make for a much more personalized experience. The site also offers personal messaging and wand-prodding (like a poke on Facebook).
MyHogwarts offers many features to give fans a more real, interactive Harry Potter experience. One section of the site is the library, where fans can read Harry Potter fan fictions and text book, as well as write their own. Another section is the WrockBox. This is an Internet radio station that plays wizard rock around the clock. It features music from bands like Harry and the Potters as well as fan submitted music. All great radio stations do have commercials, and the WrockBox is no exception.
But fortunately for listeners, WrockBox advertises cauldrons and quidditch supplies rather than muggle things and pesky services like laser hair removal. Fans can send in their own music, commercials, and talk shows to be played on the WrockBox.
Another popular feature, Wizard Cities, allows you to join the city or town that you live in and see how many other wizards live in your town! They also allow you to create an event where you can actually meet in real life the people who are fans of the series from your area.
Potter Talk is a section of their website that allows you to join or start conversations about the series. They also have an Auditorium where they schedule and stream live webcasts and events like “The Battle of Hogwarts” documentary.
In the future, the site plans to have professors and classroom curriculums so users can actually take Hogwarts classes and be graded on assignments.
Best of all, it’s completely free to everyone. I personally love this website and all it has to offer. I believe it could be the best interactive fan site yet.
But don’t just take my word for it, see for yourself.
