That didn’t take long! Following Josh Hutcherson’s slip at last night’s Teen Choice Awards, Lionsgate has now announced that Jena Malone will indeed play Johanna in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire!

“Johanna Mason, a female victor from a past Games still in her early twenties, is one of the youngest, but also one of the most psychologically scarred Hunger Games participants,” Lionsgate writes.

Malone’s other credits include Sucker Punch as Rocket and Pride & Prejudice as Lydia Bennet.

Are you satisfied with this actress in the role? You may recall she had received the offer earlier this month.

In the past two weeks the studio has also announced the roles of Plutarch and Wiress.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will hit theaters November 22, 2013.

Yes!! She is perfect for the role! So far the casting choices for Catching Fire have exceeded my expectations!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/gregory.allen.porter Greg Porter

This is the most excited I’ve ever been for an actor announcement. Good job, Lionsgate!

  • http://twitter.com/SlySound Brett H

Good casting. Better than Finnick anyway.

    • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

      Yeah, I’m not feeling Finnick’s :/ This one isn’t a disappointment.

  • Emmalou

I’m not familiar with any of her film roles, but she really looks the part!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=17127641 Laura Jurgensmeyer

I just noticed their names are kind of similar. I don’t recognize her from anything, but she looks great for the part!

  • d3erudite

Yes! Her as Johanna and Sam Claflin as finnick , this is going to be an amazing film !

  • kelsey0403

I’ve only ever seen her in Saved! and Into the Wild, which were two completely different roles from Johanna, but I’m sure she’ll be fantastic.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=33411927 Ashleigh Morgan

She was also in Saved and Stepmom (as the bratty daughter).

    • http://twitter.com/iamboobs Yasemin Turner

      and Donnie Darko!

  • AliceHermione

I have seen her in a ton of different roles and I gotta say as much as I was pulling for someone else I’m really glad they casted her. She will be great in this role.

    • http://twitter.com/iamboobs Yasemin Turner

me too! she is not what I pictured as Johanna whatsoever but she’s an amazing actress and I couldnt be happier!

  • Stephanie Lyman

I am so excited that she got the part…I think she will totally bring the role of Johanna Mason to life. I cant wait to see her bring the snarky attitude of Johanna to the big screen. Keep bringing the announcements.

  • Jessica Lancaster

From what I remember of her in Saved (saw that in theaters a while ago) and having recently watched Hatfields & McCoys, I think she’ll be wonderful! :-)

  • Heatkarma

    she got the look

  • akacj7

ya’ll should check her out in the YouTube series WIGS – Dakota. she plays a card player/gambler and is AWESOMESAUCE. i’m so excited for this casting!!

  • OhBells

I really hope she does well. I’ve only ever seen her as Lydia, so that’s what I see when I see her. I’m looking forward to that changing! :)

  • Pudding

This has been on IMDB for a month now….

  • Jocelyn

    Love this

  • Luigi_barraza

If it’s good for Suzanne, it’s good for me.

  • Zack

    Yay!

  • http://twitter.com/bsbrock Janeth Gutierrez

I can’t even with how big a fail this casting is.

  • http://twitter.com/madame_addie VIC†ORIA

I love herrr! What a great choice :D

  • http://xyue-mayx.deviantart.com/ Dreamer

I could see her doing well in the role. I don’t think this is the best picture though, she looks too young and girly in it.

  • http://www.eigakanthemovietheater.blogspot.com Jenny Leigh

I’m so glad they chose someone who can act (love her in pride and prejudice). I really am excited for this!

  • http://www.facebook.com/rachel.dodge.14 Rachel Dodge

This casting choice is super confusing to me and I really don’t like it (even though I love her as an actress)… But then again, I felt the same way with Lenny Kravitz as Cinna and ended up loving him so we’ll see

  • Normal iz Boring

I suppose Josh didn’t realize that the news wasn’t officially released yet. Hmm… I hope he doesn’t get in trouble! ;-) Does anyone think that his slip may have hurried Lionsgate to announce it officially?

  • http://twitter.com/JennaDickes Jenna Dickes

I like her a lot. But I’m a little worried her “bitch” act will just be annoying as oppose to intimidating. Not every actress can pull off an angry/tough character without going overboard. I’m kind of judging this off of her (insanely obnoxious) role in Stepmom though, and she was just a kid then. She was really great in Donnie Darko, which was closer to Johanna (troubled girl with a traumatizing past). So I’m thinking she’ll be great. I guess I’m still just anxious about the new director.

  • WillowBlood

I haven’t seen her in anything except Pride & Prejudice, and I can’t really remember her acting… Just going off looks, she doesn’t look like the Johanna I pictured. Then again, I didn’t like almost any of the casting for the first movie, so fingers crossed.

  • http://twitter.com/emilyecstasyTM Emily Bryan

The more I look at her, the more similar she actually is to my vision of Johanna. I don’t recall seeing her in anything, hope she does well. :]

  • Arial_29

I don’t know, she just seen too young to me.

    • http://twitter.com/CassiopeiaDrake Cassie Drake

I have to agree a bit. Even though she’s the right age IRL for Johanna, I hope they do something to make her contrast with Lawrence’s Katniss. I love Lawrence as Katniss, but unless they cast older actors to play the characters older than her, I’ll have a hard time believing that not everyone is the same age as Katniss, you know?

  • andy

To anyone who can’t think of anything else she’s been in, it just occurred to me that she played Mary in Saved! (that movie with Mandy Moore and Macauley Culkin lol) from 2004. I think she’ll be great in the role. Jennifer Lawrence turned out to be amazing in spite of all the drama and complaining about her getting the role. I can’t wait for Catching Fire to come out!

  • Jael

And so, Lydia Bennett has joined in the revolution against her father.

  • Plat

Oooh its Gretchen from Donnie Darko.
I guess she fits it pretty decently.
I’ll have to wait to see her done in
    character though.

  • sugarcubes

does anyone else think she looks EXACTLY like kristen stewart?! crazay.

    • sugarcubes

i mean atleast in this picture…

    • http://twitter.com/Super_Lulu1 Lupita

lol I was just thinking that!

    • Janine

       Nope. Jena actually smiles.

  • http://twitter.com/aadnama Amanda Douglas

I don’t really see her as Johanna, but I’m sure she’ll do fine for the role.

  • Morsmordre79

If her role in Sucker Punch was any indication, she’ll have no problem becoming the BAMF that is Johanna Mason. XD So happy about this casting choice!

    • http://twitter.com/CassiopeiaDrake Cassie Drake

I KNEW I RECOGNIZED HER NAME! OH FUCK YES, TOTES ON BOARD NOW!

  • 7Starrchasers

Shes a really good actress…so I’m pleased! Can’t wait to see her in action.

  • Mad

She was really good at playing an annoying Lydia, so hopefully she’ll also be fantastic at Johanna.

  • Mary Colleen

    Yes!!! I’m so excited!

  • http://twitter.com/fluflu44 Mandy Brennan

Love her! She was amazing in the Hatfields & McCoys

  • Jessica

as long as they dye her hair darke(black)r and make her tan then im happy :)
would have liked Naya Rivera(or someone with hispanic background) to bring some diversity :/

    • http://twitter.com/JennaDickes Jenna Dickes

I agree that the cast needs more diversity, but at the same time, it’s really annoying how Hollywood is always putting Hispanic women in the “bitchy” roles (or other minorities). For Annie though, they really should cast someone with a South American background. There is no way an America hundreds of years from now would be that white washed. Especially now that the official panem map came out, district 4 is most likely the one where Central America once was. /end rant

  • Ssahrishkhan08

Ehhh….I would have preferred Mila Kunis

  • erinadrienne

nooooooooooooooooooooo. she looks much to sweet……………no. no no no.

    • Kels

       watch suckerpunch

  • Nonom

I’m so happy, I couldn’t help imagining her as Johanna when I read Catching Fire in 2010!

  • Ngoc

I thought Naya Riviera would’ve been perfect, but I saw Jena in Pride & Prejudice so hopefully she’ll be good. The directors haven’t failed us so far with their casting!

  • http://www.facebook.com/adriandlr Adrián de la Rosa

I’ve loved her since I saw her on Donnie Darko

  • VideoKilledSeverusSnape

I’ll stealll you, Johannaaa! (Mmm, can’t help it!)

  • Alicea313

anyone else think she looks a bit like kristen stewart?

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Diego-Hernandez/539018211 Diego Hernandez

      wtf?? No!! lol
