If you’ve been to see The Dark Knight Rises then you’ve seen this incredible Man of Steel trailer already, if you haven’t – now it’s been officially released online.

Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchman), Man of Steel is the reboot of the beloved Superman franchise. Starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent, this looks to be a completely different take on the superhero genre. The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan is producing this film and we’re looking forward to what he and Snyder have in store for us in what should be one gritty superhero flick.

Man of Steel teaser poster from Comic-Con

Superman takes to the skies once more as acclaimed actor Henry Cavill (The Tudors, Immortals) dons the suit, cape and S-shield of the MAN OF STEEL. With an all-star cast that includes Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as John and Martha Kent, Clark’s earthbound parents; Oscar® winner Russell Crowe as Superman’s Kryptonian father Jor-El; The Fighter’s Amy Adams as intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane; The Matrix’s Laurence Fishburne as editor Perry White; and Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Shannon as Superman’s otherworldly archenemy General Zod, populations from Smallville to Metropolis are psyched for Superman. With the directorial stylings of 300′s Zack Snyder and the superheroic production team behind Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, the sky’s the limit for the last son of Krypton!

When this came on before TDKR i got sooo excited, can’t wait to see Henry Cavill as Superman

  • Team Haymitch

Lord of the Rings score FTW! But seriously… another superman movie?

  • Pixie

Christopher Nolan’s influence is so visible here, early part of the teaser has a documentary feel to it (gritty realism), coupled with the Lord of the Rings music. Won’t be surprised if this film is as hush-hush as Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

  • Liderc

The score is so good in this trailer, It’s so eerie, yet hopeful.

    • tG

you do realize it’s from lord of the rings right

  • Meselyn

Is it just me or is it odd they used the music from a “death” scene in this trailer? The music of course being titled “The Bridge of Khazad Dum” from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Gandalf’s “Death”

  • Mrwilliams0710

i’m not at all a huge superman fan, but the music is what really makes this trailer amazing.

  • Dlmarvin05

    I can’t really say I like this very much…
there’s just something about it. Idk, it doesn’t show direction at all. Oh well, maybe just me.

  • VoldyBored

I have a feeling the movie’s gonna be a bit shaky. I dunno.

  • pauline ovenden

I don’t understand the use of LOTR music, I’m a little meh on that whole fishing scene and the beard but I’ll withhold my judgement until later

    • BookReader

Yeah, what was with that fishing scene. If superman has to start out in the middle of nowhere it could get dull

  • Paulinekhan

I was hoping for more footage of superman with costume on not a zoomed out look of him flying

    • Mattbrw08

it is a teaser not a trailer

  • Nia

Just like with TDKR trailers… I am not impressed. Seems like one I can wait for when it comes out on DVD/Blu Ray.

  • tG

…lord of the rings music? Really? If you’re gonna take tracks from other films, use something that isn’t so recognizable that it advertises just as much for the hobbit as it does for this movie.

    • JerryS

This song was used in Fellowship of the Ring, 11 years ago… let it go already.

      • Liderc

Agreed, works fine in the trailer, don’t see a problem using it since it’s been over a decade since it was used. They probably haven’t finished the score for man of steel yet because it doesn’t come out until 2013.

      • tG

it’s okay to use, it just comes off as lazy.

    • http://twitter.com/Tran_Nagwaian Tran Nguyen

It’s actually not that recognisable… It’s not like it’s the Shire music that’s completely iconic. I’ve seen the LOTR’s many MANY times, and I didn’t even make the connection, because I was thinking of Superman, and the music fit the trailer.

Anyhoo, I like how it looks. :)

For all those annoying people obnoxiously complaining about the usage of LOTR music – the score is still being completed for this movie, so likely little to no music exists for this Superman movie, at this point.

Howard Shore gave them the thumbs up I’m sure and honestly a ton of trailers nowa days re-use music, it really isn’t that big of deal.

  • Hehedied

I’m so very happy for this, Nuff said.

  • sammylovegood

i think the LotR music worked nicely!! but i started feeling really sad while listening because this is the music that plays when *SPOILER* Gandalf dies!!

  • SnatcherGirl

As soon as the music turned on, I got really excited. Because Howard Shore is a genius in LotR, and the music from that particular scene is moving. And then I got really confused. Because I was not excited for the trailer….rather because of the music they used from a well known franchise. I really see it as a marketing decision. The music gives so much more to the trailer not only because it compliments it, but because it’s famous for Gandalf’s death scene. Of course, it was a good marketing decision since it made me excited…

I got goosebumps seeing this at The Dark Knight Rises. I’m one of the few who liked Superman Returns but I’m glad they’re rebooting. There was no where to go from there. Superman breaking the sound barrier gave me chills!

    • 7Starrchasers

Exactly what I wanted to say! This trailer was really good!

    • Andrew (Wisconsin)

amen fellow Wisconsinite! I actually liked Superman Returns too, and this reboot looks really sweet and unique!

  • Emma

I think this is an awesome teaser trailer, but I personally would have liked it better if there wasn’t that flying scene at the end. I get why they put it in, but it felt way different from the rest of the trailer.

  • http://twitter.com/Shaftsword Shaft Almasy

Wow that made the film look terrible. Just my opinion of course but that looked more American Beauty than a film about Superman

    • http://twitter.com/vonchambers Devon Chambers

thats a good thing, we’ve already had the style you were expecting for a superman movie (multiple times over) its time for a different look and feel to this character, he needs to be humanized.

  • The507thDoctor

Reminds me of Batman Begins. Not much too see, but it’s only a teaser, so I wasn’t expecting much. Still really excited for it!

  • http://twitter.com/heyswoozay Susalka

When I saw Dark Knight Rises, people were more excited for The Hobbit trailer than Man of Steel. I hope it’s good. My boyfriend is big on superhero stuff and he hopes it’s good too. Superman movies haven’t been good so far.

  • Camken

Wow, even looks good to me and I hate Super Man.

  • akacj7

    1) music from Lord of the Rings
    2) super man is a crab fisherman on the bering sea??!!! which boat is he on?!! the northwestern?? the time bandit?? i pray for his sanity it isn’t the ramblin’ rose!

    • Guest

Thats a serious boat and isn’t on he deadliest catch.

  • BatKid152

Cool! Hopefully worth looking forward too.

You can see it better quality here: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/manofsteel/

  • http://twitter.com/glasswatar Sarah Sutherland

Oh, odd. It will be weird for me to see anyone else but Tom Welling playing Clark Kent. Sorry… grew up with Smallville, literally. I was like 6 when it first premiered and watched it faithfully until the end. Meh, it will be weird.

    • http://twitter.com/Super_Lulu1 Lupita

I feel the same way! I cant picture anyone else as Lois Lane since I think Erica Durance did such a great job. :D

      • http://twitter.com/glasswatar Sarah Sutherland

        I agree…

  • Disraeli

Give them a moment, for pity’s sake!

Ok… So Comic-con got an epic trailer, with actual footage of ‘Superman’ in action and we get THIS??? It’s beautifully shot but where are at least some of the action and epic shots shown at Comic con, Ive been wanting to see Cavill in action since the set photos and this was such a letdown. It’s not what I was expecting since I saw the leaked footage and was hoping for hq gorgeousness :( fingers crossed another trailer should be out soon! Still love Cavill though.

  • 7Starrchasers

Many people don’t like Zack Snyder films, but I loved the watchmen and 300…. So I’m really excited about this!

    • Liderc

My jaw almost fell off the first time I saw 300 in theaters, was literally ground breaking. I didn’t like Watchmen as much at first, but after a few times it really grew on me. I think Snyder has talent for sure, especially an eye for creating unique styles which I like and with Chris Nolan producing, I have to think this will be at least a good film, if not great.

Superman is a tough nut to crack because he’s a bit basic in terms of superheroes and he’s basically indestructible, so I think it will take a unique story to make this work. I hope they do a good job, I can’t think of 2 people I’d rather see attempt this film honestly.

      • 7Starrchasers

Couldn’t have said it better myself. It was so funny, when they showed this at my cinema, people weren’t paying attention, because obviously most of them didnt know that there was going to be a reboot. but the moment the little boy stood there with his cape, people just shut up and went “omg its superman!!” haha it was funny!

  • hpatdh33

Beautifully shot, holy crap.  Its like Tree of Life and Superman combined.  So excited about this new tone of superman.

  • Avengerbender

Honestly if they are changing the origin from a farm boy to a fisherman, im just gonna get mad. And the LotR music??? Really??? I recognized it, people in the theater were whispering LotR as well. Just no. And he flies kinda like Iron Man. The footage looks like some artsy movie. Hope the next trailer makes a better impression, but I’m not a fan of Zack Snyder at all. Hopefully Chris Nolan’s involvement will have a profound effect in the movie.

    • gcw07

They are not changing the origin story from farm boy to fisherman. They are just following what has been told several times over. In the majority of his origin stories, Clark after high school goes out into the world, spending a while out on his own doing various jobs before finally ending up in Metropolis and becoming Superman.

    • The Maltese Fan

Agree 100% with the music problem – they should have used something less known than the Howard Shore score because it reminds you too much of Lord of the Rings and distracts you from the actual subject.

  • http://twitter.com/TokoMasho Matthew Potter

It’s impossible for that song to not give be chills.

I’m looking forward to this, but I don’t have my hopes too high. Lately Zack Snyder has put out a bunch of stuff with AWESOME trailers and then horrible-to-eh as the actual film. He is capable of doing well though, so hopefully with Nolan on board, this will be good.

  • Star

I actually think this is a pretty great teaser. I wanna know more!

Was this the same footage shown at Comic-Con? I think the music in that version was different. Can’t wait to hear Hans Zimmer’s original score (because it is always perfect).

The footage shown at comiccon actually showed more superman action scenes.

  • TheDarkJack

I have high hopes for this film. This very artistic approach to the Superman character is very intriguing. I think the journey of Clark Kent in finding his place in our world is far more interesting than Superman himself.

  • OhBells

This trailer makes me want to go watch Lord of the Rings. I’m not entirely sure if that was it’s intention, but it worked.

    • AtheneQ214

I watched all 3 this afternoon because of this… it definitely worked for me & I sobbed as usual in the Fellowship when Gandalf fell..

  • M’name’sMarina

What is this? Super-hobbits? Lord of the Rings music has no business in a super-hero movie trailer!
In all seriousness, though, that was all I could think about.

    • Richard Welson

FOTR came out like 10 years ago, that is all you could think of really? sigh…

      • Miss Kelly Simpson

This is true. However, I, like many of today’s LoTR fans, didn’t see it 10 years ago… I saw it much more recently. And people who are fans of something don’t tend to only watch a movie like FoTR once. I’m just saying that if the music is recognizable enough to call my attention to the fact that it’s from another movie of ANOTHER SERIES when a trailer is meant to build hype and recognition for the series they’re trying to sell you in the trailer, using that music was not the best move. I’m not necessarily complaining, I think the music was great in that trailer and in FoTR, it just made me notice it stuck out.

  • Kurosakiuzu

I want to see comic con trailer, not this crap

  • QuaffleRose34

    Wow!  What a cast!

  • charlton

The music is Celtic or Gaelic sounding and very flowing. And I do like colors of the costume.
