Rumours indicate that the studios are working on a sequel to the 1993 family horror/comedy.

Movie Hole reports that a follow-up is in the works, tentatively titled Hocus Pocus 2: Rise of the Elderwitch. No word yet on whether original director and then-future High School Musical mastermind Kenny Ortega will be involved, but the title seems to suggest the second entry could be moving away from original cast members Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy – who played three witches that declare war on trick-or-treaters. The family comedy was largely lauded for it’s off-beat humour, and has recently achieved a certain level of cult status.

We’ll let you know if these rumours come to fruition!

Would you like to fall under the Hocus Pocus spell again?

Though we didn’t include this film, do check out our list of films that we think should get sequels!

I don’t know about a sequel, but man oh man do I looove Hocus Pocus! I might need to watch it tonight, actually.

  • http://www.facebook.com/svicker2 Starla Vickery

    yea i love hocus pocus

  • http://forgiveyourmind.tumblr.com/ Tariq

Oh please no! I love the Hocus Pocus film as an original Disney movie with no sequel. It stands on it’s own so well!

  • http://twitter.com/Dillon_Mays Dillon Mays

No. I love the original. Don’t screw with the original.

  • VegemiteSandwiches

This movie was seriously horrifying to me as a child (they murder that girl at the beginning then torture the crap out of the poor guy), it still freaks me out now.  Classic though :)

  • GeekGirl101

That movie was fantastic and I love it. Make a movie about witches, but please don’t relate it to Hocus Pocus. It’s a great movie that deserves to be left alone. Don’t screw with it. It was a great movie. And by the sound of it, how much of a sequel would it actually be?

P.S. Sean Murray better known as Timothy McGee on NCIS played/voiced Thackary Binks in thus movie.

    • http://twitter.com/CassiopeiaDrake Cassie Drake

Actually, he just played the body of Thackery in the beginning and end. Jason Marsden, well known voice actor for Saturday morning cartoon characters such as Tino from The Weekenders and Richie from Static Shock, did the voice.

      • GeekGirl101

Oh, thank you, I didn’t realize that until now. But either way.

  • RuMbLeRoAr

    It’s Kenny Ortega, not Kevin.

  • akacj18

if they’re gonna do a sequel they better do it right, cause hocus pocus is LEGIT. cult status HECK YES.

  • http://twitter.com/emilyecstasyTM Emily Bryan

I LOVE Hocus Pocus, but I don’t believe a sequel will live up to its awesomeness.

I love how we both looked at this xD But I agree!

  • Beau

All I have to say is, OMG!

  • http://twitter.com/CassiopeiaDrake Cassie Drake

I effing love this movie. I don’t want to see them ruin it with a sequel D:

If they do this, then they need the original witches and Kenny Ortega, or, at least for me, it’s not gonna be worth it. How they would get out of Hell, though after the candle’s been used is another story entirely…

  • Lookat

I LOVE Hocus Pocus! I named one of my cats “Binx”

  • http://twitter.com/JennaDickes Jenna Dickes

This was one of my favorites when I was little! I watch it around Halloween every year. To this day whenever I see stills from it or catch a bit of it on TV, I can just smell jack-o-lanterns and halloween candy. I don’t know if a sequel would hold the same magic now that I’m older though.

  • Kayla

I love the original, and I hope the same makers will be involved. It’s such a fun movie! I’d also love to see another Halloweentown, those movies are great :)

    • http://twitter.com/greeneggsplusam Sam

Ehhh I feel like Halloween town started to get bad after the second. Honestly, I hated the fourth.

  • SarcasticLuna

    NO. Just no.

  • Phlossy

No. Just no. Absolutely not. Leave it alone. -.-

I’m 23 years old now and regardless of how bad this sequel may end up sucking – you can bet your ass I’m going to the midnight fucking premiere.

        Whoa Allie…. Censorship.

  • Ncnapper92

I watch the original at least once or twice a year. Halloween favorite.

    If they brought back
Bette, Sarah and Kathy I would probably watch it, but if not i would give it a miss, theirs no need at all for a sequel in all honesty. The black candle was burnt out so theirs no way for them to be resurrected anyway

    • HarryTheHippo

Did you see the end of the movie?

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=690341156 Andrew Davies-Land

yeah but its been a while lol

  • http://twitter.com/brookesalmons brooke salmons

Best. Halloween. Movie. Ever. That being said, I don’t think a sequel is necessary or a good idea.

  • http://twitter.com/LauraK483 Laura Krause

This is my favourite Halloween movie and one of favourite movies in general =P So I’m torn as to whether I’m pumped or nervous for the sequel…

  • http://twitter.com/Steven_Locke Steven Locke

Ok so here’s how I would play this,

The kids of Max and Allison are involved, by them two having children and killing the witches it lets out some great powerful magic that allows just one of the original three back (bette would be great but a dark version of Sarah’s character may be good too, maybe she has been working hard in her magic it hell).

They still have the talking cat and Dani owns the Sanderson house Museum,

I personally would like to see the story have a darker turn on it, then it wouldn’t be an epic fail, because it would help regain the interest of the fans already (I am a huge fan FYI) but tbh I would go see this movie, it doesn’t change the original in anyway and there is no franchise to speak of the ruin so there for I think it’s a grey idea and I think I will like it if they stay close to the original with the cast and story (not for example have one of the witches come back but a different actress, that would be a fail!!)

Overall, I would go see the movie :)

You better make it now Disney… Please :D

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joey-Mangum/1820064015 Joey Mangum

The problem with the talking cat (Binx) is that he was released from the spell when the Sanderson Sisters died again. Otherwise, I want the whole trio back if possible… But I don’t know how possible that is, considering it’s been like 20 years since the original.

I love the original movie–I still remember going to the theater to see it with my Mom when I was young. I think they should only do a sequel if it’s as fun as the original. Also, I think the cast of the original is what really made it great, so hopefully they can either get some of the original cast or comparable actors.

I love Hocus Pocus and I think a sequel could be awesome, but I can’t help thinking of the disaster that was Mean Girls 2, and like that tragedy I will watch it and melt at how horrible it is.

I don’t really want a sequel to this movie. But I am really curious, not gonna lie.
