Jena Malone – not Zoe Aggeliki – offered role of Johanna in ‘Catching Fire’

Today it was confirmed that Jena Malone is very close to signing for the much anticipated character Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire!

This contradicts a report last week from Deadline which indicated that Zoe Aggeliki was in the lead. From THR:

Malone has the offer and is in early negotiations for the part, according to sources. The move nixes premature reports that pegged newbie actress-model Zoe Aggeliki as the frontrunner to play the ax-wielding former Hunger Games winner from District 7.

Both Deadline and THR are very reputable, so we suspect Lionsgate may’ve been deeply considering both, but ultimately Malone may end up with the spot.

Catching Fire hits theaters November 22, 2013.

Sadly, to be honest, I’m not all that excited for casting anymore! There have just been way too many flukes and rumours to the point where all my excitement was wasted on them! I mean, I’m all for Jena playing Johanna, but I really just want to see that ‘Big News’ button over an official casting announcement from Lionsgate.

I would have loved to see Kristin Bell in the role, but Jena Malone would do a fantastic job. I’m happy with this.

This is the first picture of her I’ve seen that actually looks like she’d fit the part. Yes. I still liked the suggestion of Mia Wasikowska, but Jena Malone will do nicely. :-)
