Buffy vet Jane Espenson’s web series project Husbands the Series premiered online last year to great acclaim, and with several Whedonverse alums slated to appear in season 2, Joss Whedon tells you why you need to be watching!

Husbands stars Brad “Cheeks” Bell, Sean Hemeon and Alessandra Torresani. It follows two male celebrities who, after having been secretly dating, find themselves married in Vegas after a drunken night and now have to deal with the fallout of their affair being made very public, very fast.

In a recent press statement, Bell (who co-created the show with Jane Espenson) previews season 2 and in what ways the series will continue to represent the gay community:

There are shots being fired at the gay community, every day. I don’t see a lot of firing back. Commentary within narrative can be tricky; it can be message-heavy. But that’s why God made satire.

The series’ producer Jane Espenson has found success as a writer on smash hit TV series like Buffy, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica and Game of Thrones. But although she currently serves as executive producer on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, she is very passionate about Husbands, and has been busy working on season 2 all summer.

The second season is set to premiere on August 15, and if you’re not already intrigued, Espenson’s former Buffy colleague Joss Whedon offers his glowing endorsement:

Husbands’ is full of the kind of whip-smart remarks you wish you’d written yourself.

Not only that, but a number of Whedonverse vets are set to appear on the show this year: Buffy‘s Felicia Day, Amber Benson and Emma Caulfield will all be appearing, and Caulfield states:

I immediately said yes. At the heart of any good story, there are characters the audience can relate to and root for, and Husbands has that and more.

Other familiar faces we can look forward to include Dollhouse‘s Dichen Lachman, BSG‘s Tricia Helfer, Grimm‘s Sasha Roiz and Friday Night Lights‘ Aasha Davis. And Espenson promises that there are “even more coming.”

Loving the article – I’m thrilled for the cast and creators of “Husbands”.  The series has definitely garnered well deserved reviews by professionals and the adulation of a large number of fans.

One thing that should be noted (and updated in the information above, pretty please) – the series is a Co-Creation by both Jane Espenson and Brad Bell (aka Cheeks).  All credit where credit is due, right?  :)  Their collaboration is one to be praised; Mr. Whedon certainly thinks so!  He has excellent taste.

Brad Bell is doubly served by being co-writer and the star of this show.  If any of your readers want to check out more of his comedic and music videos – make sure to find “GoCheeksGo” on YouTube.  And Twitter.  :)

Jane Espenson is a QUEEN.  There is no other word for her contributions to television and now the web.  She RULES!

And of course, I have to mention how endearing and entertaining both Sean Hemeon and Alessandra Torresani are in their roles as Brady and Haley.  They’re both comedic gold!  Ohhh, and Jeff Greenstein as director is perfection, imo.

For newbies – ENJOY discovering “Husbands The Series” – It is a MUST SEE.  Season One is up on http://www.husbandstheseries.com

PS – Is it August 15th yet?  Season Two cannot come soon enough!
