BJ Novak not returning to ‘The Office’ as series regular

A fan favorite on The Office will be appearing significantly less in the upcoming ninth season, we learned today.

BJ Novak, who has played Ryan Howard for the past seven years, will not be a series regular.

The actor also served as an executive producer and writer on the show.

Season nine is set to premiere this Fall on NBC. Will you miss Novak as Ryan?

I, personally, find Ryan’s character obnoxious. For the last couple seasons I had no idea why Ryan still appeared as one of the “more important” characters in the opening credits, anyway, because his role has been seriously diminished since at least the third or fourth season.

Isn’t BJ writing for Mindy Kaling’s new show? Could that be why he’s not going to be a series regular?
