The Avengers has become the third movie ever to earn over $600 million at the domestic box office, doing so in just 54 days.

James Cameron’s Avatar is the only other film to do so in less time, taking just 47 days to break the $600 million mark, finally resting at a cool $749.7 million.

The Avengers began its incredible run at box office history with a phenomenally earth-shattering $207.4 million during its opening weekend. This broke the record for biggest opening weekend ever, beating out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 which came in at $169.1 million. The Avengers ended up breaking 28 records in total, which included biggest 10-day gross at $373.1 million, and fastest film to $500 million, which took just 23 days.

It’s not finished either, as it’s projected to make another $30 million, but should cool off very soon with The Amazing Spider-Man coming out next week and The Dark Knight Rises hitting theaters July 20.

As we all know it was you, the fans, who helped make all this happen, so how many times did you see The Avengers in theaters?

lol I’ve seen it about a dozen times. I go pretty much once a week. I haven’t contributed to its money-making though lol

    *is a bad fan*

I saw it at the midnight premier with my friends and then two more times with my family. So 3 times. I LOVED THE AVENGERS!!! Best movie ever.

I’ll be honest the biggest reason I went to see it the first time was because of Joss Whedon. The second time was because I loved the first time so much.

It was better than I expected and 100x better than Avatar *shudders*. I wouldn’t go and see it again though, mostly because I’m broke and there are other movies I want to see this summer too.

Too bad, it was not as good as the numbers make it seem.  Yes it was funny and it had great action.  But where was the story? Also the FX i thought where cheesy and unrealistic.  I hope DKR beats this.

I know that Marvel has a great following but I don’t understand how this film could do so well.  Yes, I did see this movie but I haven’t seen any prequel/leading-up-to movies (Iron-Man, Thor, etc.), so that could be part of my problem.  I don’t know…I was hoping for more “real” action.

You know, not everyone goes to the movies for a riveting story. Some people like to be entertained. So when you decide to get off your high horse, us laypeople will still be here!

Since when do box office numbers have anything to do with quality? Most fans I know don’t take it seriously or think it deserves any oscars. It is NOT supposed to be some deep philosophical masterpiece like your beloved batman. It’s a fun action movie, with great one-liners, and hot actors (male and female) and was entertaining enough to prompt people to spread the word and see it more than once.

Why do you care if other people enjoyed it more than you? Batman will probably beat it at the box office anyway, so stop complaining and let the Avengers/Marvel fans have their moment. Stop trolling other people’s fun. Sheesh….

Here’s the deal, I liked the two Iron Man’s, Thor was really good, and I even enjoyed Captain America. I was the guy that stood up for the third Spiderman when it disappointed most moviegoers.   I am usually the guy who likes every movie I see, so I was quite shocked when I thought Avengers wasn’t that great. I was expecting this great movie but I feel it was just as good as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America.

I don’t like the Batman franchise. It’s unnecessarily dark and pretentious. IT’S ABOUT A GUY WHO DRESSES LIKE A BAT AND FIGHTS CRIME. I like my superhero movies to be fun and entertaining.

I saw it four times in theatres. I wanted to see it once more before leaving on my trip to Spain but didn’t have the time. =(

Here’s to hoping for the re-realease of the director’s cut!

I saw it twice. The second time because they said there was a new Dark Knight trailer playing…no such luck, but still an awesome movie.

I loved Avengers… But what does it have to do with “The Dark Knight Rises?’

    • Liderc

The Dark Knight Rises was coming out after Avengers, so people that would have probably gone to see Avengers again ended up going to Dark Knight Rises. So it’s relevant because it cut into Avengers total box office.

I kinda hope it gets a boost somehow and beats Titanic!  It would have if it weren’t for Cameron’s pointless 3D release this year!

    • Hehedied

Titanic wins any other way… Don’t forget 3D and IMAX sales are on avengers side.

I’ve seen it three times and still want to see it again
