Square Enix reveals next-gen engine with ‘Final Fantasy’ concept

Square Enix has unveiled a “real time technical demonstration movie that utilizes cutting edge game development technology,” with a Final Fantasy concept dubbed Agni’s Philosophy.

Agni’s Philosophy is a demonstration of Square Enix’s next-generation engine, Luminous Studio.

The video below is not the next Final Fantasy (so don’t get your hopes up), but a concept of what the publisher might deliver on the next generation of consoles and future PC hardware.

Compared to the graphical jump between PS2 and PS3, the difference between PS3 and this seems marginal.

The jump to the next generation probably won’t be as big. All that really needs fixing are textures and framerate. Sony and Microsoft will need to focus on something other than just graphics for next-gen. nintendo’s obviously taking a huge leap for next gen, but even they have a huge online network and fancy controller as well. We’ll see what else the big 3 have in store.
But it might be better to not even really have a big graphics jump next gen anyway. Developers are already losing money over development costs during the current gen. I’m not sure how they’ll do it next gen.
