In a new interview, Game of Thrones showrunners Benioff and Weiss rehash the season 2 finale and talk about the future of the show.
Could you believe Jason Momoa managed to return after all as Khal Drogo?! Speaking to EW, Weiss says:
Khal Drogo’s death was as sad off-screen as it was on. After his last day of season one shooting, it was sort of like, ‘There goes the party.’ Luckily, or unluckily, or both, the rest of the cast stepped up their efforts on that front. Still, it was excellent to bring him back. I’m amazed word didn’t get out, to be honest – he was in Belfast shooting the scene. People must have seen him. He’s a hard guy to miss.
They also discuss some of the Game of Thrones parodies, including the recent SNL skit. Benioff says:
In the past few months we’ve seen our title sequence redone by The Simpsons, seen Mr. Garrison [on South Park] give a lecture on Westerosi politics, heard Adam Scott reference the show in Parks and Recreation, and been parodied on SNL. We got a big kick out of each (particularly Adam Scott because he’s so dreamy).
The showrunners also reveal that they’ve signed on for two more seasons of the show, although this doesn’t necessarily mean that HBO will automatically renew Thrones. But we’re hoping the recent ratings boost will help that process along!
