Lainey Gossip: Armie Hammer is at the top of Francis Lawrence’s list to play Finnick in ‘Catching Fire’

…He’s alright

He’s too old, but in a race against Hedlund, he’s the better actor I feel. I’d rather they cast a new comer personally, or someone with less famous ties then the rest of the cast.

i dont think he’s too old at all. i thinnk he looks the perfect age but he’s just not attractice enough, when i see Finnick i wanna think DAAAAAAMN he’s HOOOT! but i dont get that from Armie Hammer.

I always thought Finnick should look like a merman. I don’t see Armie and think of a merman.

He looks the part, but I’ve said it before..his voice is just so distinct and I don’t see that as Finnick.

I think he would be a good Finnick i’ve watched some of his other movies and i think he could definitely pull it off. If he got back into there shape he was in during ‘The Social Network’ then he would almost 100% also look the part. He’s a really tall guy too, so i think that would absolutely help. 
..AND he’s 24! which is a good a match of age with Finnick, the main trio are all a number of years older than their characters. – Although Jenn and Josh did a brilliant job as Katniss and Peeta, they don’t look 16 to me – but that’s just me.

i thought they wanted an unknown to avoid ego clashes on set…

armie  hammer is not a bad choice at all… but i actually want benjamin stone to play the role :)

I’m still a Garrett fan for this one.

No, just no. I think Armie Hammer is Handsome, but more like capitol-hansome. Like he was born in the capitol. I just don’t see him as Finnick. I think that Garrett Hedlund would be a perfect Finnick. I would be so disappointed if Armie Hammer was chosen.

Armie looks too old to be Finnick imo, but Garrett Hedlund is just about as old as Finnick is supposed to be!!!!! Another good reason why Garrett Hedlund should be Finnick! Have I said his name enough times yet…?

He even has a knot tying app on his phone cos he’s sort of obsessed with knot tying and the app allows him to constantly practice. I don’t know how much better it can get, really. :D

armie hammer is definately the closest one to finnick. he has the deep seductive voice, the undying charisma, the acting ability and the extemely sexy looks!

Armie Hammer is not only the most physically suited to the role (it’s easy to imagine him wielding a trident, and he’s an adonis basically, like slightly tall enough to seem demi-godly) and has proven his chops as an actor who can pull off the emotional, difficult Mockingjay stuff terribly well

Armie Hammer is seemingly the prefect actor to portray Finnick. He’s got the physical attributes that were described by Suzanne Collins in his height (6’5), he’s incredibly handsome, no one can deny that. But aside from physicality he’s the right age at 25, however he’d be 26 if he’s hired, when Catching Fire is in production.

It took me less than five minutes to come the conclusion that he was perfect for this role simply after watching his work in The Social Network, and then an interview he did with an internet entertainment magazine, the interview was a half hour long, but I only needed 5 minutes to realize that he’s probably one of the most charismatic, engaging, intelligent, and thoughtful young actors out there right now, and these are personality traits that are greatly required of a person if they become a part of a franchise like The Hunger Games, also if he can be as charismatic as himself, there’s no doubt he can do the same whilst acting. One other clincher though, that has been brought up before is he already likes to tie knots, which is a huge aspect of Finnick’s character– it’s his one and true coping mechanism, and learning to tie knots isn’t exactly a walk in the park, I know– ’cause I’ve tried, Armie’s already got the skills, he’d probably be happy to sit there take after take re-doing a perfect bow-line knot for 5 hours, not many actors can attest to that.

I’ve seen people questioning his acting ability though, and I’d just like to assure them that he’s wholly capable of the flirtatiousness, the deviousness, the cunning, and the emotional depth required of Finnick– this can be discerned from his performances in Blackout, The Social Network, Billy The Early, Years, and J. Edgar– which he was nominated for best supporting actor at the 2012 SAG awards.

A previous commenter brought up the fact that people like to pin point that he looks older than 25, I see no problem with this, as the already established cast is playing sometimes 5 years their junior… also again his height will match up nicely with Liam Hemsworth’s, who’s 6’4.

Seriously, I really and honestly believe that if Lionsgate is trying to create an ensemble that looks and feels good together, Armie is probably one of the best choices they could possibly make. Above all though, I want them to pick the best actor for the job, I’m biased though and I think that person IS Armie.

He’s perfect! He’s got the looks, and the acting skills to be Finnick! He can be both serious and silly.

I totally agree with Armie Hammer being cast as Finnick. He has the looks, build, stature and has a fantastic range as an actor. He could very easily portray both the lovable charmer with a cheeky side all the while being able to show the very serious side to him. You only have to watch any one of his numerous interviews to see just how charismatic the guys is and his performance in The Social Network is outstanding. There is no better man for the job. He *is* Finnick, even without mentioning the knot tying app on his phone.
