Yes, you read that correctly – a future patch for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will feature mounted combat. PC Skyrim players can try out a beta version of the patch right now.

Patch 1.6 will enable your characters to perform melee and ranged combat whilst riding a horse. This will be the first time that players will be able to fight from a horse in an Elder Scrolls game. Mounts were first introduced in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

The patch also includes further optimisation and bug fixes.

For a full list of all the bugs that are due to be squashed in patch 1.6, plus details on how to download the beta patch through Steam, check out Bethesda’s blog.

Are you pleased that Bethesda have finally decided to add mounted combat to an Elder Scrolls game? Do you think we’ll see mounted combat in Elder Scrolls Online, the upcoming MMO?

This is actually really cool.  And I started playing Skyrim again the other day so it’s great timing.

I wonder if they’re adding this to get people to pay more attention to the game again to hype up the release of the Dawnguard DLC when it’s released.

Why can’t they focus on broken quests rather than adding stuff that obviously should have been in it from the get-go???  Either way, I’ve played over 300 hours of the game over 2 characters, I have no plans to re-play it anytime soon!
