The official trailer for The Hunger Games DVD and Blu-ray has been released! It focuses mostly on the action, showing epic moments from throughout the film.

While the trailer presents no new footage or previews of bonus material, it’s interesting to see that they’ve chosen to show so much of the Games and the other tributes (previous trailers focused heavily on the District 12 and Capitol scenes, leaving the actual Games up to the imagination).

The two-disc set will have more than three hours of unreleased material such as interviews, insight into the making of the film and features about the differences between the book and the film. The set will also include an eight-part documentary entitled The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games, and the full-length propaganda film introducing the Hunger Games at the Reaping.

The DVD and Blu-ray will be released at midnight on August 18.

UPDATE: The complete feature breakdown is below:

· “The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games” – an eight-part documentary covering the “making of” the film in all aspects from the pre-production process all the way through the theatrical release and fan reactions
· “Game Maker: Suzanne Collins and The Hunger Games Phenomenon” featurette
· “Letters from the Rose Garden” featurette – insights from Donald Sutherland on the development of his role as President Snow
· “Controlling the Games” featurette – stories and concepts behind creating the control center
· “A Conversation with Gary Ross and Elvis Mitchell”
· Propaganda Film (in its entirety)
· Marketing Archive
· “Preparing for The Games: A Director’s Process” (Blu-ray Exclusive)

    deleted scenes would be awesome!

  • DramaCutie8

This just made my day. Will be be able to Pre-order the DVD on Amazon or Best Buy? Also I really hope that there’s deleted scenes that are included.

    • Effie Trinket

      Same! That’d be awesome!

      • Aeo2626

You can sign up to have amazon.com email you when it becomes available (I’m assuming to pre-order).  Just look up Hunger Games blu-ray and enter your email address.

    People still buy DVDs?

    • http://twitter.com/Killward A

Yes  [because Blue-ray's players in some countries are expensive, and discs in blue-ray also are]

    • Savanah

I don’t have a Blu-ray played and do not ever want one.

  • Jeff D.

Based on some clear images of the covers that I found on another site, it looks like the DVD will also be a 2-disc set, which I’m relieved about, considering studios are doing that less and less. For those of us who don’t have Blu-ray players yet (and I know I’m starting to be behind the times on this–but I’ll eventually upgrade), this is great news.

excited for the documentary. that was my favorite part about twilight:eclipse’s dvd. so it should be really interesting seeing the world created, and their fight training, etc.

    No news about deleted/extended scenes?

    • Jeff D.

If I remember correctly, Gary Ross did say there would be no deleted scenes on the DVD.

        Aha. Thanks!

    Blooper reel?

    sort of.

Although there’s nothing about deleted scenes, the documentaries sound great!

Sounds like this one disc set has more new features than the HP wizards collection will have…

    • Jeff D.

Not sure if you just typed wrong or misread the article, but it’s a 2-disc set.

I meant for one movie, as opposed to the whole HP series :)

  • Team Haymitch

not going to lie, i’m pretty psyched the propaganda film is on there.

    • Savanah

It’s the film they show at the Reaping, just the entire version.

I thought that it would be something NEW, but it is not. *sigh*

  • Caroline

I’m kind of dissapointed about there not being a blooper reel, but the ‘Controlling the Games’ segment is sure to be very interesting.

  • goldensnidget

Ha. “A Conversation with Gary Ross and Elvis Mitchell”? Never heard of that kind of featurette before… ;)

  • Kellyann

This all sounds great, but I want a cast audio commentary! Jennifer and Josh are HILARIOUS together. 2+ hours with them talking about the movie would be awesome!

  • akacj7

i spied a lot of deleted scenes in that trailer alone. looking forward to it!!

there are no deleted scenes.  Least i don’t think so.  Ross said there won’t be any deleted scenes weeks ago.

    • Savanah

I think that they flipped a lot of the clips so that they would appear “fresh”. But, I’m still hoping that they add deleted scenes!

  • http://twitter.com/aadnama Amanda Douglas

I was hoping that there would be a documentary on the making of the film, so I am beyond stoked!

  • applepie

    Please be bloopers! *crosses fingers*

  • DreamNox58

Even watching this makes my heart pound.  I’m so excited for August 18th, must remember to call off work that day.

That was one LONG EPIC DVD trailer. I enjoyed it thoroughly :D

  • bethanny23

I’m still holding out hope for a blooper reel and deleted scenes

  • cynthiacaridad

I would love to see bloopers!! *crossing my fingers*

  • Plat
