Damon Lindelof opens up about ‘Lost’s’ controversial ending: ‘I have no regrets’

In an awesome new video interview, Damon Lindelof opens up about the ending of Lost and discusses the legacy left by the iconic series.

The interview was done with The Verge. The interviewer dares to admit right at the offset that he wasn’t a fan of the way the show ended, and is pretty negative towards Lost throughout the video. But Lindelof responds that he has no regrets about sending the characters off into a shiny afterlife, and that he was “always comfortable with the ambiguity of the show.”

How did you feel about the ending of Lost? Did it leave you wanting more questions, or was the emotional ending fitting for the characters’ journey?

The emotional ending was fitting for the characters, everybody was always going to have questions whatever the finale was going to be. It’s better to draw your own conclusions then to have all of the answers.

I didn’t like the ending. It was disappointing, not because it didn’t answer all the questions, but because it felt like it was all for nothing. Maybe they should have shown a little more to explain it a little bit.

PERFECT comparison to the Matrix. I loved how LOST ended. The interviewer seems to lose his grip throughout this. Damon explains everything perfectly. I like how he handles everything.

I loved the ending of Lost. They even tied up the less-important loose ends in the bonus epilogue episode, so I have a hard time understanding what the big deal was.

Lost ended perfectly. I have absolutely no complaints. Contrary to what others may say, pretty much every question was answered. Its not spoon fed to you, you actually have to use your brain.
And I love that the ending focused on the characters which I think was really the heart of the show. (I probably cried 70% of the finale)

Lindelof is a TV god. He proves again and again that he GETS television. He ended the show they way it needed to be ended. Because of how the show was crafted over its six seasons. I love his ending.

I read some interview about a year ago with the creators of Lost and they admitted that they pitched the idea just for one season or two and didn’t expect anyone to actually follow the show. Once they the show began getting popular they realized they needed to actually keep it running and admitted to just creating the show as it went along. So for those of you saying it was planned perfectly… you might want to re-evaluate that statement.
