The Bee Gees’ Robin Gibb has died after battling cancer, the singer’s website confirmed.

“The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery,” read the statement on Gibb’s website. “The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”

Gibb had recently been hospitalized with pneumonia.

Robin Gibb made up one third of the disco band known for its hits on the film Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

Brother Barry Gibb is the only remaining member of the band, as Robin’s twin, Maurice, died in 2003 from a twisted bowel. Their youngest brother, Andy, died in 1988 from a heart infection.

Songs by the Bee Gees – including “You Should Be Dancing,” “Stayin’ Alive” and “How Deep Is Your Love” – were featured in Glee‘s “Saturday Night Glee-ver” episode in April.
