Next week (the graduation episode!) we will see Gloria Estefan join Glee for a role as Santana’s mom.

Today, Naya Rivera is discussing the casting.

The actress who plays Santana says that unlike the character’s grandmother, her mother is very supportive of her sexuality:

“She’s very much the supportive mother — and fun!” Rivera told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday at Fox’s upfront party in New York.” She was amazing to work with, very sweet and we had the best time.”

Despite having Estefan in the house, Rivera says the Grammy winner won’t get to sing anything but instead breaks bread with her on-screen daughter and her girlfriend, Brittany (Heather Morris) during a “cute” scene at Breadsticks, where Mrs. L is, you guessed it, a great parent. “She’s very supportive of the relationship,” Rivera says.

With cast members heading to New York and some staying put in Lima, Rivera reveals she doesn’t have a preference in terms of where she’d like to see Santana go — if the cheerleading scholarship Brittany so kindly helped to arrange doesn’t pan out.

We learned in December that Estefan was coming on board.

Meanwhile, a new episode of Glee (3×20/3×21 “Props/Nationals”) airs tonight at 8 PM ET/PT on Fox!

I’m glad that Santana does have a supportive mother. They’ve already done the un-supportive mother with Quinn’s mother during the pregnancy.

I agree completely…wonder why this wound up getting pushed back so late in the season, thought this would happen much sooner – since it was announced in like December.  I wanted to her a killer duet between the two…always room in season four maybe?

Wow, I’ve already forgot about her. Can’t believe they waited so long to incorporate her..
