During its morning conference call, Fox finally started announcing season 4 details that Glee fans have been clamoring for.

For starters, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson are the first guests announced:

In her first return to television since “Sex in the City,” Emmy Award-winning actress and fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker will guest star in the fourth season of GLEE. Additional details about her character and storyline will be released at a later date.

To kick off GLEE’s fourth season, Golden Globe Award winner and Academy Award nominee Kate Hudson will join the cast in a six-episode arc. Additional details about her character and storyline will be released at a later date.

On the call, Fox briefly mentioned the season 4 plotline. Glee will have “a show within a show” and “follow some of the kids to New York” while introducing new characters in Ohio.

Fox also addressed moving the show to Thursdays:

“Ultimately we really want that four comedy block. Even in this day and age of DVRs, there’s a flow between comedies and we have a cohesive block. We’ve seen before that Glee is very compatible. As Glee gets more mature, we thought this was the best way to propel it through the next couple of seasons.”

Is this the announcement on the “revolutionary” idea that we have been waiting for?

A show within a show? Is Rachel and Kurt gonna be on TV or something. This makes no sense. Come on Glee Chat, let’s hear your theories.

It just means that part of the show will take place in NYC, and the other in Ohio. It’s basically two shows going on simultaneously. How they decide to go back and forth between places will be interesting to find out.

      • CliveRogan

But that’s not what a show within a show is.  The only way I can see it making sense is if the characters who move to New York star in a reality TV show which we see being watched by those in Ohio.

        • Anna-FilmGirl

I agree. I think this also explains why Finn randomly decided to become an actor? *Kermit flail* It all makes sense!!! XD

    • Mitchel Clow

Yeah, I’m lost at this point. Don’t really see how this is “Revolutionary”…what do you think Smash is doing right now? A show within a show!

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joey-Mangum/1820064015 Joey Mangum

I think they’re trying to put the spin-off that they decided not to do into the main show along with the next generation of Glee kids… There’d better be something else, or this is very clearly not “Revolutionary”

  • Anna-FilmGirl

I hope what they mean by a “show within a show” is that they will have something along the lines of that Christmas special the characters did, along with the usual Glee drama on the side. I think that could be interesting. I hope that it really is going to become more mature.

  • Theaterboy1

I don’t know what’s going to happen but I will be glued to the TV as always no matter what! And I LOVE the idea of Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker coming on to guest star! Great actresses!

I’m thinking they’ll either be teachers/professors, or parents for some of the new kids…

  • TheHamburglar

A show within a show? That was the “revolutionary” idea?!? It would be creative, but oh wait it’s been done before.

    Wowwww

      Revolutionary???

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joey-Mangum/1820064015 Joey Mangum

I hope there’s something else they left out of that press conference… Otherwise, this is just an American version of Degrassi with musical numbers… Oh, and less drama…

This is why you never ever get your hopes up for Glee. They will NEVER deliver.

  • Sarah

…Does this mean Lea Michele is not leaving? So I can still watch the show now?

    • Lauren

Its been confirmed for a while that Lea Michele wasn’t leaving the show :)

  • http://about.me/dshana Shana Debusschere

    I’m in.

  • Crw17

Oh jeez, I’ve been thinking for awhile (ever since it was kind of sort of revealed that Rachel wouldn’t do so well at her audition for NYADA) that Kurt and Rachel would be casted in a Glee-like TV show. :)

  • http://twitter.com/finchel4ever101 Brook Hudson :)

Can someone tell me if Lea Michele and Cory Monteith are staying?? If their are im still gonna watch it!

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joey-Mangum/1820064015 Joey Mangum

Confirmed students staying on the show thus far: Cory, Lea, Naya, and Chris….

  • Aart223

So we are following kurt to new york and everyone else is gonna stay in ohio???????

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Joey-Mangum/1820064015 Joey Mangum

I have a feeling the four who have been officially signed on are going to be going to New York together…

  • Kathleen

Having a show within a show is not revolutionary! I expected I would be disappointed and am I ever.

  • Smoresluver13

If this is what they call revolutionary than I don’t want to see what they call typical….

  • HPfanatic

Gee, thanks Glee. Way to make things even more confusing.
    Season 1: fresh, new, loved
Season 2: not as fresh, but different, still good
Season 3: “let’s create drama, then take it away! Also, it be pretty cool if we created a zillion new story lines and never finish any of them!”
Season 4: “let’s have the show have two very different settings, a show within a show, and even MORE cast members, just to add to the confusion!”

Sigh. I have to say, maybe it is revolutionary. I don’t there has ever been a better tv show end so sadly.

  • LilyLuna

That’s not even remotely revolutionary. :/

I would have preferred any one of Glee Chat’s theories to this “Show-within-a-show”. I’m actually really disappointed that this appears to mean they won’t be going back to touch upon the numerous plot inconsistencies and offer us different perspectives.

  • dlskin

I wonder if the “Show within a show” would be a reality show, like American Idol (but in New York) with Rachel on it.  That way they can showcase her story, still have her sing and in NY without NYADA, focus on Finn and Kurt and then show reaction of back home.  I live in Lima (Yes for real.) and we had someone from the area on Idol a few years ago and even though he didn’t go far it was big news and created a lot of buzz.  Maybe thats what they want to do, that would keep all the characters on, I’m not sure how Santana will fit in unless its a duets show

  • Marie

Honestly, I kind of want the graduating cast to just go, or at least no longer be regulars. I’m really sick of Rachel and Finn (as individuals and couples), although I would still be interested in hearing how they’re doing (like if Rachel is successful in Broadway, etc.). Although I like Kurt, I’d be willing to sacrifice him (Brittana would be really, really hard for me to let go of) for more focus. Also, I feel like with the writers wanting to add more cast members will make the show too spread out and will have too many storylines going on, and we’ll eventually stop caring about the people who are in the glee club, since most of the people we’re attached to are graduating.
