The CW has announced which five pilots it is picking up for the fall season, and we are a little surprised by their choices.
The CW has chosen to pick up Arrow, Cult (starring The Vampire Diaries‘ Matt Davis), the Sex & the City prequel The Carrie Diaries, Beauty & the Beast and First Cut.
Arrow reinvents the DC superhero Green Arrow, and stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, a millionaire who fights crime. Cult counts The Vampire Diaries‘ Matt Davis among its stars, and follows a production assistant on a TV show who begins to solve real-life murders. AnnaSophia Robb stars as the title character in The Carrie Diaries, a Sex & the City prequel series. Beauty & the Beast is obviously another fairytale retelling of the classic story, and this series is loosely based on the 1980s drama produced by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. And finally, First Cut stars Mamie Gummer (Meryl Streep’s daughter) as a young doctor discovering that working at a hospital is just like real life.
Interestingly, the much-anticipated futuristic fairytale The Selection, set to star Narnia‘s William Moseley, was not among the dramas The CW picked up for the fall season.
We still have no word on the fates of The Secret Circle, Hart of Dixie or Ringer, who are all just coming out of their first season, although Nikita‘s season 3 pick-up was just announced. It is worth noting that The CW has chosen to pick up another medical drama, which suggests that they might pair it up with Hart of Dixie in their fall schedule.
