The Hunger Games‘ popularity naturally means that people are going to try to cash in on the success.

Scary Movie writers Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer are two of those people.

Variety has learned that they’ll be writing a film called The Starving Games:

Spoof auteurs Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer have come on board to write and direct “The Starving Games,” with K5 selling its international rights at Cannes.

Peter Safran will produce through his Safran Company shingle.

Though “The Hunger Games” will be front center for many of the jokes, other pics it plans to pillory include “The Avengers,” “Sherlock Holmes” and the finale of the “Harry Potter” franchise. Wild Bunch has already snapped up the German rights and Falcon has taken the Middle East.

This is one of many films Friedberg and Seltzer have created that spoof several movies in one. Meet the Spartans, Disaster Movie, and Epic Movie are other recent (lame) creations.

I don’t think there’s a more fitting word than ‘lame’. Hypable wins at the internet today.

  • Alex

    Oh, F**** Hell NO!

it’s ***** bad enough they make fun of harry potter

but the Hunger games deal with a Serious Issue and this movie is sure to trivialize it for stupid, moronic politically incorrect laughs.

can this Damn franchise just BURN already??

i loved dance flick “you and everyone else who applyed got accepted to just community collage” lol its funny this should be

  • batwane-bruceman

I feel like this could be either a really good or a  really bad idea. If its anything like Vampire’s Suck, I don’t think I want to watch it… though the twilight movies were bad enough as it is… hell, twilight was just bad in general.
I love Starkid, and if anyone can beat them in making a parody of something, I will be impressed, because they are amazing.

I hope it tickles your funny bone

  • Bob

Yeah, a spoof about children dying. Have fun being heartless movie producers.

    • Sully

Well, to be fair, the SNL parody was funny. But I see your point, it really isn’t something to be spoofed

  • Sarah

And again The Hunger Games proves its point. Wow.

Excuse me while I go drop tracker jacker nests on muggles’ heads.

Scary Movie was funny and so was Vampires Suck. I’m willing to give this one at least ten minutes before leaving the theater.

Wasn’t Potter already spoofed in Epic Movie?  Why are they bringing it back?  It’s like they ran out of parody genres and just want to spoof anything that’s successful all at once. Gee…

  • Delena

All these movies are just stupid… I mean, they’re kinda funny…like, stupid, not having-to-think funny, but I definitely wouldn’t pay to go see it. All those movies are more “I’m bored and feeling lazy and want to watch some mindless movie”. Sooo…. probably see it at some point, but you can tell this isn’t gonna be some clever parody.

  • Mand1591

Date movie is by far the best spoof movie ever done. Scary movie is good too. So if they’re willing to make this and have it actually be humorous rather than just lame then i think it could be a good spoof movie.

    OH GOD, NO! D:<

  • Mrs_Badcrumble

Not at all a spoof fan… But for those who are… enjoy!

I think the only one I liked was Scary Movie 2. “Watch out for fanny!”, “Heads up A-cup” “Duuuuuude, who’s on the rag?” LMAO

It’s called a spoof. I’m sure that they aren’t going to be mocking these series. Since they all have passionate fanbases, I don’t think they’ll be doing anything detrimental like that. I’m guessing they’ll just be making jokes that even the fans will laugh at. I honestly don’t think it is that big of a deal.

And Harry Potter has been at the center of many other spoofs before– why does it matter if there is one more to add to the mix?

It’ll be interesting to see how they do “The Hunger Gamse” spoof without sparking controversy…

    • LilyLuna

They’ve actually already used Potter, some years ago. Something about Hermione being pregnant with Harry or Ron’s kid and they were still at school, but middle-aged? I’ve never seen it, my brother mentioned it to me as he’s seen it and knows I’m a Potterhead.

    • HungaGurl

      Friking CHILL out!

  • Lando Pando

    You make me laugh Andrew.

  • Troy

I hate this sort of thing. “It’s funny cause the person who’s doing the stupid thing is dressed like a Harry Potter character” Not to mention that the characters are just gonna repeat things that the public has said about the movies.
