Despite being under a self-imposed media blackout, Lady Gaga reflected on her past cocaine use in an interview on Lifetime’s The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet.
As Mother Monster revealed in the interview, her loneliness and depression at age 19 led to a coke habit.
“It was like the drug was my friend. I never did it with other people,” she said. “It’s such a terrible way to fill that void, because it just adds to that void, because it’s not real.”
But once her cocaine use started making her feel sick, Gaga had a realization.
“I sort of f—ing woke up one day and was like, ‘You’re an asshole. You’re not an artist,'” said Gaga. “‘If you were a real f—ing artist, you’d be focused on your music. You wouldn’t be spending your money on the white devil.'”
Gaga didn’t hold back during the candid interview, also discussing sex, marriage and divorce at length.
Watch the full episode, also featuring Portia de Rossi, Rita Wilson and Leslie Bennets, at MyLifetime.com. The interview contains very adult content, however, so viewer discretion is advised. Gaga talks about her cocaine use around 5:48.
