Those of us that have already seen The Avengers know about the secret mid-credits scene that reveals a new villain on the horizon for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but what secrets lie beyond the rest of the credits?

Thanks to Movies.com writer Christopher Campbell for tipping us off about the extra scene, and thanks to CBM commenter TheIrishAvenger for finding the image!

Marvel has made itself known with its line-up of after-credit clips that contain hints leading to the next big installment in its universe. So what waits after The Avengers that didn’t get released internationally or at press screenings? Was it a lead-up to Ant-Man, The Wasp or Doctor Strange?

Warning: Beyond this point are major spoilers for The Avengers film and if you have not yet seen it we highly recommend hitting the “back” button immediately as many times as possible until you’re safe.

We’re serious. Massive spoilers below.

Those that have seen the film might remember seeing a certain death-obsessed villain with a proclivity for accessories at the end of the main credit sequence, but Joss has something else in store for those of us that know that fans WILL stay through the credits just to see if there’s anything tagging along at the end.

Ready yourself, like we said, this is a major spoiler.

UPDATE: Watch the clip in this post!

That’s the team sitting down at a wrecked shawarma restaurant, probably at Tony Stark’s insistence. Reportedly, the after-credits scene is them eating shawarma (because of Downey’s joke right after he saves them all) in silence with Mark Ruffalo trying to keep a straight face.

Hysterical. Leave it to Whedon to get fans all excited for an after-credits scene and then have it feature heroes masticating.

My friends and I sat through the entire credits and this was never ones shown.
    I am disappoint.

  • noisyhearts

Whaaaat. I stayed right until the very end at my showing and didn’t see this scene!

  • Ev42

UNFAIR! More than half theater (including my family and I) sat through the credits, and we did not get this scene! We got one with the villain… #ImInARAGE!

    • Harry Myland

ALL of the credits? After the first bit of credits with the pseudo animation you get the villain one. Then after THOSE credits that followed you got the burger one.

I went to a screening on the 14th and never saw this scene. But my friend who went to a screening last night saw it, so I guess they’re only just now starting to include it?

  • MillerT1

Are you serious? Whedon thought this was a worthy Post-Credits scene?
There was an event that I had hoped was gonna go further as a Post-Credits Scene but I don’t wanna say cause it would be spoiler, but when I say THAT event, most of you who have seen the film probably know what I’m talking about. Let’s just say: that would have been a worthy Post-Credits scene, something that only the really dedicated fans would find out about.

    • JoshuaGrothues

I’ve seen the movie and I still have no idea what you are talking about

  • Jen

Haha, there were so many people yesterday who were staying to wait after the credits but I left earlier. I’ve got to admit, this makes me feel a little smug.

  • Melissa

I think this is the one they filmed really late, around the time of the world premiere, so it makes sense that a lot of the international theaters don’t have it yet. The US is among the last countries to get this movie and will probably the main folks to get this after-credits scene.

  • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

    LOVE IT.

  • Maxistavsnas

I am furious that they added this so late! I sat through the whole credits when i saw it but there was´nt anything! this is just a cheap way to make more money! Otherwise it is a brilliant idea for a final sequence because it shows how they go from fighting when they first meet to being friends in the end.

    • Melissa

A cheap way to make more money? How are they making more money by adding it?

    • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

Adding this actually costs them money because they have to pay filming costs to shoot the scene and you don’t have to pay any additional cent more than what you paid for your ticket. All it tests is your patience to sit through credits.

If you would read the original posters comment more carefully you’d see they in fact did stay through the whole credits but didn’t see the scene.  Neither did my friend who went to the midnight release Thursday night.  Wonder if they held this back from the midnight release and put it in every showing after?  Maybe some theaters get it and some don’t (like with the different endings of Wolverine).  Of course I’ll probably go see it again so I’ll be sure to stay next time.  I usually do, but my friend who went Thursday said there wasn’t anything else.  Joss is trollin’!  XD

Love this image. In fact I wanna get it as a background image. It’s just awesome to see these bad-ass superheroes sitting around and just grab a bite together.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_FI2W47WCSCXJJBEYHDRRF6JBAY Dude

They didn’t have this scene in Brazil. They only have the set up scene for the second movie.

Just previewed Avengers at the theater I work at. I thought this ending scene was PERFECT. After 5 Marvel movies, each with it’s own post credits scene forshadowing Avengers, it’s kind of like “well, what do we do now? Avengers just happened…” Like everyone after a several year long buildup is finally taking a well deserved break. Love it.

“Somehow leaked online” after almost the entire world has been able to see it for the past week.

    • http://Hypable.com/ James Bean

The clip wasn’t attached to international copies of the movie, hence my confusion!

  • potter

Wiat. They had an end scene with the evil guy, not with the Avengers…

  • WhatTheGrace

They only had a scene with some monster looking guy from outer-space (who i don’t know as i haven’t read the comics), this would have been so much cooler!

    • Clubguru35

Get your marvel knowledge game up how dare you not know who that is at end of first credits his name is thanos a major villian of the avengers

      • WhatTheGrace

I haven’t read the comics but i have watched all the Marvel movies. Don’t worry dude i will learn.

    • http://www.facebook.com/t.garrett.allen Trevor Garrett Allen

its a joke. there is one before this however.

    • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=551110595 Katrina Katindig

  • http://www.hypable.com Richard Reid

    Damn, missed out on this!

  • notenoughpuff

I actually yelled at the people in my theatre who started to leave.

    • Glaciusx

I wanted to stay but my friend had to beat her mom back home, haha. I’ll try and catch it the second time around.

  • http://www.hypable.com/ Kristin LeMunyon

Props to Whedon for some great trolling! Hilarious.

  • http://twitter.com/BenGaieck Ben Gaieck

Best end to a superhero movie ever.   I mean what do you when you’re exhausted after just saving the world?  Go sit and get something to eat!

  • http://twitter.com/BenGaieck Ben Gaieck

BTW, is this a real restaurant or a set?

  • grapes9h5

So glad I didnt have it spoiled for me, it was AWESOME!!!!!! I didnt have Thanos spoiled for me either so that was also awesome

  • Glaciusx

Crap! I left after they revealed *spoiler*. I didn’t stay for the black and white credits… :c

  • FlamingC

Hahaha this was just epic. I expected something hinting at Mandarin in Iron Man 3 or something but I was totally caught off guard with this. And it goes on for SO LONG! It was just brilliant! Great movie, great acting, and I really loved how comic book-y it felt (even though some of the plot is just so different from the comics). And I just LOVED the non stop humor!

  • Zemmer

I saw the film today and stayed until the Marvel logo popped up in the end, there was no Shawarma scene in the middle, either the projecter messed it up and turned the projection machine off, or they took it down in Israel as to not offend the Arab population
