Be sure to vote in the MTV Movie Awards so your favorite films get nominated.

As we learned last week, this year’s awards will also have a voting academy to give smaller films a shot and get critical input.

The event, to be held June 3, is sure to be interesting as we see Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games go head-to-head. This is the only year this will happen!

  • Guest

Some of these are just ridiculous

  • TheFirst

Noo! I want THG to win in some categories, but I also want HP to win, since it’s their last movie..

Twilight DOES NOT deserve to win. They’ve had enough awards, and even though I liked BD part 1, I don’t think it compares to THG and HP.

    • Lotte

MTV did everything in their power to prevent Twilight to win anything at all but plain and simply not even nominating the them in any category expect for two. So congratulations, there won’t be any ‘Twilight-show’ and THG will probably win a lot. MTV just did there very best to discharge an entire fandom in order to please another one.

But i wonder how you would feel if your fandom would be plain and simple eliminated from FAN competition in advance, in order to ensure another fandom will easily win. I kinda guess you would be really mad and dissapointed…

IHATEMTV is trending on twitter right now and there is a huge outcry.

At the end I would have actually really interested how a Rob vs Josh; Kristen vs Jennifer showdown would have ended… After all if THG fandom is so powerful as everyone (rightfully) assumes, Twilight would not have been a competition.

At the end the MTV Movie Awards are a FAN VOTED COMPETITION. It is sad that a huge fanbase is not allowed to vote for their favorite movie, as this is a popularity contest and note necessarily about prestige and critical acclaim..

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XKZIG7MXV2IMZZ3JDKGSNMJ2RE Chris

As happy as I am that HP has more nominations than Twilight, I do feel that it is a bit unfair to Twilight fans that the MTV powers that be nominated Twilight in 2 categories. I mean, personally I don’t think it deserved its noms, but I just think it’s kinda messed up that they are shutting out the Twilight fans. I would’ve just let the Twilighters have their fun with the MTV Awards, since that’s the biggest recognition the films have received.

        • Lotte

Agreed. I do not even mind THG or HP winning against Twilight, as I am actually fan of all franchises.

But no matter how much you dislike Twilight, it is very obviously  a statement to a fandom who have been very loyal towards MTV, that their votes and opinions do not count anymore as MTV found a shiny new toy.

MTV was always a awards voted by fans. It is rather sad that an entire is not allowed to vote in order to guarantee that another movie will most definitively sweep the awards. That is rather sad and pathetic.

  • Persia

Hunger Games got 8, Harry Potter got 6. Twilight’s been nominated for 2 – not much competition.

  • Huh

Surprised they put Twilight in Movie of the Year at all considering it’s only other nom is Best Kiss. Glad to see it get shut out so much though XD

  • MillerT1

Considering that Twilight only got two nominations this year and they were in categories that both have Hunger Games and Harry Potter nominated in them, I’m predicting that Twilight won’t win a single thing this year and (fingers crossed) that Harry Potter wins at least one of the six and that it won’t be for the fact that teens thought Tom Felton was a better villain than Ralph Fiennes or Helena Bonham Carter.

  • Mia

Oo no matter how much I love Emma Watson, Rooney Mara deserve best actress!

  • Slytherinhero01

I see exactly what MTV is doing. Since the Harry Potter vs Twilight gig is getting old, they’re trying to pretty much transform it into Harry Potter vs Hunger Games which is practically the new ‘Twilight’. Really, I’m just sick of it, and I’ll be glad when next year comes and they can finally leave the Harry Potter series alone. They need to understand that most die hard HP fans are now adults (seeing as the books came out in the late 90′s) while Twilight and the Hunger Games is filled with screaming girls who’ll likely sleep next to their computers voting. Heck, not even the actors of Harry Potter bother with going to these awards unless it’s to promote a new movie. Obviously it means they don’t care either.

    • Ira

Hunger Games is NOT filled with screaming girls.

Take the love triangle out of THG and you’ll have a series where a corrupt government takes a fall against the Mockingjay.

Take the love triangle out of Twilight and you’ll have a girl who’s come to a town where it rains a lot.

  • Pixie

Best Film: HP v/s Twilight v/s Hunger Games…so who are YOU supporting, Andrew???

On a serious note, what really makes me laugh is that Breaking Dawn Part I has been nominated for Best Pic, despite being nominated only for Best Kiss!! I would’ve preferred it if ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love’ or ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ had been nominated for Best Pic instead of ‘Breaking Dawn I’. I mean, ‘Breaking Dawn I’ was nominated for the Razzie for Worst Picture, yet it makes an appearance here for Best Picture. So much for having a ‘voting academy’ this year.

Then again, MTV caters to teenage girls. So, it only reflects upon their own intellectual capabilities. Overall, though, the nomination line-up seems much stronger as compared to previous years.

Finally, on a more positive note, I would like to thank MTV for nominating films like ‘The Help’, ‘Bridesmaids’ (I honestly never expected these films to show up!), and most importantly, the performances of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, and Shailene Woodley. Only shows that young actors DO NOT have to depend on pop culture phenomena or multi-million film franchises to get noticed.

    • Slytherinhero01

Exactly. I knew that ‘voting academy’ stuff was a bunch of crap. And this only proves it when Breaking Dawn is considered a ‘Movie of the Year’. Like I said in my post, this is just a ploy to start a Harry Potter vs Twilight vs Hunger Games type of scene that will hopefully rank in the views for them. Really the MTV Movie Awards is nothing but a joke.

    • Pixie

‘Be sure to vote in the MTV Movie Awards so your favorite films get nominated.’

Btw, Andrew, the fans CANNOT nominate any films. The format has been changed this year. The nominations have already been announced by MTV. Why else would there be a ‘voting academy’?? The fans can only vote for the winners from the nominations announced by MTV. Which is why, ‘Breaking Dawn Part I’ will have to be content with only two nominations this year.

  • Jessica

People take this way. too. seriously. Especially Harry Potter and Twilight fans. But it’s more ridiculous coming from the HP fans since you guys always pride yourselves on being the more “mature” ones.  Whatever though, MTV is, well… MTV.

  • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

Now, clearly JGL or Gosling deserve to win in the Best Actor category, but then you put performances from big franchises in there and…Channing Tatum, Hollywood’s resident heart-throb, evem when they don’t realize it.
MTV is a popularity competition, the same as the Nickelodean Kids Choice award, and some others. Jennifer is worthy of a nomination, but not BECAUSE of the fact that she’s in THG…yet that’s why many will vote for her.
It hurts to look at this list.

  • sia

I love how they catered to the Hunger Games oh it’s the new thing ! I’m sorry but I’m not a fan and aren’t most viewers teen girls ? They changed things up because they wanted to be more classy and Academy like ? WHAT FOR ? YOUR THE DAMN MTV AWARDS ! AT LEAST LET THE FANS VOTE ! And if you were going with more indie films where is the Artist ? Like it or not it’s suppose to be fun and they just didn’t want another Twilight year but isn’t that the point ? Fans vote and it’s stupid that people hate the fact that Twilight fans are passionate.

    • Pixie

Now you know what MTV really thinks of ‘Twilight’!!!

    • stargazer

Most viewers teen girls?  That’s Twilight, not Hunger Games.  Hunger Games is in no way the let’s-swoon-over-boys fest that Twilight is.  Hunger Games is being watched by tons of different types of people, not just teen girls.

    • Vantage

And that, people, is an example of an insecure Twilight fan. Afraid that their so-called movie will not swept an award just because the way of picking a winner isn’t through voting.

  • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

Shailene Woodly…who wants to bet she WON’T win, because The Descenedants ain’t a kids movie?
*Sigh* At least most people don’t take these too seriously in Hollywood, right? I bet it’s a joke that no one really acknowledges is a joke. They smirk when it’s brought up in conversation and pretend it’s all an honour, but really, they know.
    They MUST know.

    • Pixie

Exactly, who wants to have a bowl of popcorn as a trophy???

      • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

Who chose popcorn as representation of contributions to movies? I get it, movies are in the cinema, the cinema has popcorn…but it’s a somewhat cheap symbol. I don’t understand it at all.

  • http://twitter.com/LadyLisl Lady Lisl

Twilight doesn’t stand a chance. I say it’s gonna be a Potter and Hnger Games showdown :D

    • Coraline1996

      ^ Can I get an Amen! =D

    • Vantage

Now it’s on! It has always been this way whenever Twilight wins: It’s the quantity (of voters) not the quality (of film).

  • Gary65

If there’s any justice, Hunger Games will bury Twilight.

    • Bella

Twilight will punch HG in the face! FYI…

      • Gary65

        LOL in your dreams

      • Ida

        Pft! Yeah… No.

      • Vantage

        FYI:

Hermione Granger had remained loyal to her friends and helped save the Wizarding World.

Katniss Everdeen had volunteered in place of her beloved sister and worked so hard in order to feed her family.

And your eponymous name, Bella Swan, had sprawled in the forest and curved into a fetal position because she isn’t compelling enough of a character to deal with her biggest problem: boyfriend.

And now tell me what’s better, an award or a moral lesson?

        • applepie

          You are amazing <3

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

If there is justice Harry Potter will grab ALL! Alas, I fear that there will be no justice this year, as with many years past when it comes to awards and Harry Potter.

      • Gary65

Particularly these awards. They never give them to Harry Potter. Thus, I’m pinning my hopes on Hunger Games instead.

  • Laura J

Movie of the year: Deathly Hallow part2 or Hunger Games? icantdecide :S

    • Mia

DH Part 2 for the win :)

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

Deathly Hallows!  It’s the last Potter movie, you should support Harry Potter for 10 years of entertainment! Never get a chance to vote for HP again. You can vote for Catching Fire next year.

  • James

What?!!Taylor Lautner got snubbed for his amazing acting chops in Abduction and Twillight..LOL

  • http://twitter.com/ivangatewood Ivan Gatewood

I’m surprised Twilight didn’t get nominated for best comedic performance! lol

    • applepie

      That’s amazing xD

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_72TDYOGTQX5TPTA2B3HV55XCAQ Corin

I can’t see how Liam Hemsworth got a nom for Breakthrough Performance… he’s barely in movie… and he’s kind of not-that-great.

*I will now wait for the scores of people to tell me how wrong I am and how truly awesome he was… I can take it…

    • Jd

At least he was better than the blandness of Josh Hutcherson.

      • Peeta Mellark

        Bite your tongue!!

      • applepie

        Wait… Are you serious??

    • NCF

I thought the exacact same thing when I saw that he was nominated.  You have at least one person who agrees with you.

    • Vantage

Rooney Mara is my pick. Despite how much I like The Hunger Games.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_72TDYOGTQX5TPTA2B3HV55XCAQ Corin

        Agree on both counts.

  • 7Starrchasers

Best Kiss has to go to Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone!

  • Blair Warren

Ohhh Twilights fans are gonna be veeery angry about this list XD

  • Tiana

I think the Hunger Games should be nominated for its music too. Apart from Safe and Sound, The Kingdom Come by The Civil Wars and Abraham’s Daughter should have gotten a nod too. They are really good songs esp Abraham’s Daughter

  • http://twitter.com/eiVega eiVega

I don’t understand why Hunger Games is on this list.  Shouldn’t it wait until next year’s award show?  What is the MTV time period eligibility criteria?  Normally you’re honoring films from the previous year which would include Harry Potter and Twilight since they both came out in 2011.  The Hunger Games is a 2012 film and shouldn’t be in the competition.  I don’t like the idea that I have to pick between Harry Potter and The Hunger Games.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

Just pick Potter.  It is the last chance you’ll get to support it in these awards.  I’m still hoping HP will win this year, cause they never win

      • http://twitter.com/eiVega eiVega

I did pick Potter but I think the casual voter may not make the effort to give HP it’s due.  I don’t like they’re competing because of the majority of voters out there.  I’d hope fans of both series will give it to HP this year but who knows what the rest will do.

  • Trixie99

I think the Hunger Games is going to win a lot of awards this year now that Twilight doesn’t have many nominations and Harry Potter has never been an MTV award kind of movie.  I don’t see it starting to be one right now when The Hunger Games is so new and fresh.  The only MTV awards Potter has one are Tom Felton’s ‘Villain’ awards.

I just hope Potter fans don’t start to get too angry when it wins little or none of these awards.  That’s one thing I’m glad of.  This will be the last of the MTV awards for Harry Potter and the last time for their fans to get angry over them not winning.  I’m a big fan of Harry Potter too….. I just don’t get why people get so upset over it.  It happens every year and it’s expected.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

So Harry Potter is not MTV material, not Oscar Material, not People’s Choice material, hardly Teen’s Choice material.  Then what is it?  It’s only gotten real recognition in UK awards such as BAFTA.

Although none of us really take MTV seriously – especially  because apparently they never take quality of the movies into account. Harry Potter is a better movie than Twilight, but it hasn’t got girl going gaga over it. It’s not a big deal, but is still kinda sucks that HP get snubbed every year. Still hope fans will give HP some homage for 10 years of entertainment.

      • Vantage

It may not have won any materialistic trophy from those snobbish awards, but it has wholly won our hearts. And our love for the Potter series is greater than any of those accolades. :)

        • Trixie99

I agree.  I think Potter is the one people will remember the most… whether it’s the books or films… regardless of them not winning MTV awards.  While I would have liked to see the Potter series have more recognition award wise, it’s not going to happen now.  It’s The Hunger Games time now and this MTV awards show will be theirs.  Honestly, I kind of wish they had nominated Twilight more instead of Harry Potter.  Then we could get over the fan wank now and not have to worry about it later.  Let the fan rivalry be Twilight vs Hunger Games and leave Harry Potter out of it.

  • dragonrider713

This is cruelty! Putting Harry Potter and Hunger Games up against each other in so many categories! I don’t know who to vote for!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Maria-Wang/542480760 Maria Wang

I feel like Harry Potter will get pushed aside again.  What with all the hype that surrounding Hunger Games now.  I’m still loyal to Harry Potter though.  So I’ll say my goodbye to it by cheering for Harry Potter all the way.

  • http://twitter.com/BrandiTiana Brandi Delhagen

Liam for best breakthrough performance? Seriously? The only thing I really remember him doing from the movie is call Katniss “Catnip” and carry Prim at the end. As much as I love THG I’d love even more for Potter to sweep (especially best cast!) since this will be their last time at the awards, but we all know that will not happen. I will say that I feel this will be a very entertaining show. I wonder if they’ll have a host this year?

    • Arthur

I second this Liam nomination thing, he barely appered on screen, but since both Jennifer and Josh got nominated for their perfomances and Lionsgate and MTV are really pushing the whole “love-triangle” thing in The Hungers Games, it’s quiete the non-brainer to see him being nominated, even though it doesn’t make any sense in terms of acting.

      • Esmeblabbed

I think it’s more of the fact that he’s considered one of the three main characters and that now that he’s with this movie, he’s probably better known everywhere now.

  • http://twitter.com/LuckeMasse Lucas Mass

Okay I don’t care that Twilight is only nominated for 2, even though that is awesome that they are shutting it the fuck up… WHAT THE FUCK IS THE HUNGER GAMES DOING THERE!? The Hunger Games was released 2012 and that is the award show for the movies released in 2012

    • Savanah

I thought that the awards show would include movies from the year before’s awards show up until the nominations being revealed? I don’t see what is wrong with THG being nominated.

      • http://twitter.com/LuckeMasse Lucas Mass

The category CLEARLY says “Movie of the Year”, meaning 2011 and it doesn’t make any fucking sense that The Hunger Games is there.

        • Savanah

I may be wrong, but I thought that “Movie of the Year” was meaning the past year? Like, the nominations were released on April 30, so the contenders would be from April 30, 2011 to April 30, 2012? If the awards show was taking place at the very end of the year or at the very beginning of the year, I would understand your reasoning. But, this is taking place almost halfway through the year and that’s why I think the way I do.

  • BookWorm4

Why do I have to chose between Hunger Games and Harry Potter?

    • Jason

The Hunger Games has 3 movies left to win. Harry Potter doesn’t. That is all.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1045615098 Riana-Tiana Menezes

But on the other hand, Harry Potter has already been nominated for these awards for 10 years straight but this is Hunger Games’ first year.

        • Trixie99

Yeah, if Harry Potter was going to win something from these awards, they would have won it by now.  They lose every year.  This year will be no different.

        • Dreamer

Despite my love for Hunger Games I really think Harry Potter should win most in most of the areas it was nominated in. It’s HP’s last year and it got the cold shoulder from the Oscars. Hunger Games has 3 more movies to win awards for. Besides, (in my opinion) HG was good but it wasn’t as amazing as I was lead to believe by all the “OMFG” reviews before the movie was released, there were a lot of ways it could have been better. Harry Potter really deserves to win. HG can sweep every year after this and I would be happy(though if it was HG over twilight, I’d go with HG any day)

  • Vantage

    Best On-Screen Dirtbag Movie: Twilight

So, the music category, it’s about contemporary music? I thought it was score.

  • Hermione Granger

    Harry Potter. That is all.

  • Jason

I think there is something to be said for the three-way fight between those guys in Crazy, Stupid, Love.

  • http://www.facebook.com/iDomi Domi Ed

I have a feeling Hunger Games will sweep.

I would LOVE for Potter to win but I wouldn’t mind it being Hunger Games picking up those awards.
I can honestly be torn or 100% for Hunger Games in most categories.

At least its not Twilight that will sweep this year.

  • applepie

The obnoxious thing is, Twihards started trending #MTVWEHATEYOU on Twitter because they only got 2 noms… Does anyone else find this obnoxious??

  • Guest

Thank God MTV finally realized the non-twilight fans are exhausted of seeing twilight sweep everything. It just becomes tedious and now the other movies will have a real chance. Although, I got a feeling it’s gonna be a Hunger Games sweep, not that I’m complaining!

  • Bea

    Twilight forever ! <3

  • Granger Danger

Man the movie choices are awesome this year. My top has to be Harry Potter, Hunger Games and definitely Brides Maids! Although I hope Gut-Wrenching Moment goes to Minny’s Pie!! Too Awesome!

  • The Best Guest

Aren’t the contenders supposed to be movies from the previous year? The Hunger Games came out this year, therefore it should be a contender for the 2013 Movie Awards.

  • Granger Danger

I feel as though I am the only one voting for Rooney Mara for Best Actress and The Help for Best Movie, even though I’m a Potter fan. As much as I love Potter, Minny’s Pie… that’s all I got to say! XD LOL!

  • Shelby_W

I hate to say it, but “Best Cast” is probably all DH pt. 2 deserves in my opinion.

    • Emma

Why do you hate to say it…?

      • Shelby_W

Because I really would love to see them get recognized for all the hard work they have done over the years, but I don’t really think they deserve any of the other awards they are nominated for.

  • harry potter forever!!

I am sorry hunger games fans (not rlly) but i have absolutely no respect for that movie. it was terrible and didn’t live up to the book…harry potter should defiantly win it all just because all 8 of those movies are amazing and w/ the hallows p2 being the very last movie they should make a full sweep for
    1. MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!!! :D
    2. best fight (i mean come on…the final battle is epic!!)
    3. best female performance (GOOOO EMMA WATSON!!! i <3 u hermonie!!)
    4. best male performance (GOOOOO DANIEL RANCLIFFE!!! i <3 u harry!!)
    5. BEST CAST!!! (u can't get a better and more loyal cast than the cast form hp!!)
as u can c it is crucial to me that HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART 2 wins it all!!!!! HP FOREVER!!!

    • hp forever

woops!! i forgot the add best kiss to my list…EMMA WATSON (hermonie) and RUPERT GRINT (ron) omg that this almost made me cry…it was like 7 books, 8 movies, ANd LIKE 10-13 YEARS IN THE MAKING!!!! they deserve it!

      • Hpforever

i meant to say that kiss not that this in my last post haha

    • Guest

I’m sorry, but I’m pretty sure the Hunger Games stayed MUCH closer to the book than any of the Harry Potter movies did. Also, it’s Hermione, not Hermonie. And whilst I love Daniel Radcliffe his performance wasn’t as good as most of the others in that category. People aren’t really going to take your comment seriously if you’re going to type like that either. But I agree that HP should win most of the awards it’s up for, just not all of them.

      • HP4EVA

The hunger games didnt stay much closer to the book.. as well as twilight! harry potter taught us many things.. and what did twilight teach us?? to love someone even if its impossible.. harry potter was magical. twilight is just a dumb movie. oh and btw vampires dont sparkle when theyre hit by sunlight.. they diee!! 10 years of hard work from the crew rhe cast and J.K… they deserve it. twilight? just 4 years of creating a movie.. some twilight fans just like twilight because  robert pattinson is a sparkling hot vampire.. harry potter is great! HG was good. but not OMG! HP had that Omg! moments! HARRY POTTER ALL THE WAYY!! right potterheads??

  • http://twitter.com/lookalivesteph Stephanie

I’m betting on Hunger Games to make a sweep across most of the categories it’s nominated in; however, it would be nice to see HP win Best Cast and Best Male/Female performance.

I though Bridesmaids was good, but not THAT good.

  • Bernardotriana

I really want harry potter to win all the categories its there LAST CHANCE EVER!!!!!!! no more MTV awards for Potter! Lets all of us potterheads vote for OUR movie one LAST TIME

  • Sweetkanishka 14

i like TWILIGHT very very very very very very very very very very….. much  but after
reading the coments i think that HG can win. but HG is releasing in the between
of the year even though it is nominated.i love twilight very ………much and i
want twilight it to win this year at least for the best kisses award.

  • Awwal95

hey what song playe when josh hutcherson won the best amle performance award
