A good TV show makes you fall in love with its characters. A great TV show makes you fall in love with its couples – so much so that you obsess over each scene, each line and each respective actor that makes up that couple.

Sometimes you’ll make fan videos dedicated to these couples or even write fan fiction.  I don’t do this of course, although I’ve read that other people do(I totally do this).  As such, I thought I’d list some of my favorite TV couples. I know I’ve left out many couples, as I’ve only chosen one couple from each show listed.

SPOILERS ahead, be warned.

10. Desmond & Penny (Lost)

I watched Lost faithfully for 6 years. I hyped it up to everyone I knew and followed all the spoilers and all the storylines. Then came the finale. I’ve never been so upset at a shows end and for a while I was pretty upset that I had been such a dedicated fan without being given a well earned pay off. Now a few years later I’ve definitely made peace with Lost. To me it was a show about the journey, not the end, and in those terms it was pretty fulfilling. Though there were many couples to choose from on the show I can’t help but love Desmond and Penny. If you watch “The Constant” and don’t cry your heart out, then you have no soul. Desmond and Penny had an impossible relationship that spanned through time and the universe kept them apart, but in the end, they made it. She was the one thing that kept him from fading away, which is a powerful statement about love.

9. Amy and Rory (Doctor Who)

Doctor Who is not known for its romantic relationships, but the new series brought a lot of interesting things to the table.  It brought back a much darker Doctor and crazy new adventures.  While the Doctor himself got some action on the side, it’s hard to argue that Amy and Rory were by far the best couple on the show. The great thing about Amy and Rory is that the audience doesn’t believe in the relationship. Let me explain: Rory is a great guy and he obviously loves Amy, that’s never questioned, but in any other show he’d be stuck in the friend zone and Amy would definitely be with the Doctor, who is after all the hero of the show. This show finally gives one up to the nice guy. Why is it so unbelievable that a hot thing like Amy could love Rory? It isn’t. He’s great. It’s nice to finally a show pull that off. There are some incredibly great heartbreaking moments between the two, but they never seem to lose one another. I love how these two just seemed to make it work.

8. Sydney &Vaughn (Alias)

Alias was pretty much the coolest show back in the early 2000′s. It was a launch pad for Jennifer Garner, Bradley Cooper, and Michael Vartan. The show thrived on the performance of CIA Double Agent, Sydney Bristow and her handler Michael Vaughn, but all the secret missions in the world couldn’t compare to watching these two trade glances on the small screen. Sure, the show took a turn for the crazy after the second season, when Sydney went missing and Vaughn got married. And yes Vaughn ended up being someone we didn’t think he was and he was technically dead most of the final season, but at the end, these two ended up together in a story book ending only Hollywood could come up with. I think they deserved it and it was rightfully earned for the characters.

7. Chuck & Sarah (Chuck)

The first two seasons of Chuck were pretty fantastic. Fun, exciting, and sometimes over the top, but the show brought some life back into NBC. One of the biggest selling points of the show was the will they/wont they story-line between Chuck and CIA Agent Sarah. The two definitely had an Amy & Rory sort of thing and he was lovable and goofy and she was way-badass. Though at first Sarah dated Chuck to protect her CIA cover, she soon fell for him as I think any girl would. Over the course of the show Chuck went from being a lovable fool, to full time spy. Though it got complicated towards the end, I’d like to think they had their happily ever after.

6. Adama & Roslin (Battlestar Galactica)

No one likes it when mom and dad fight, the same can be said for Roslin and Adama. He was a retired Military Admiral and she quickly became the President of the twelve Colonies. At first they practically couldn’t stand one another and it was a bit hard to form any sort of lasting relationship when the human race is on the run from genocidal humanoid robots. But Adama and Roslin quickly formed a deep bond that became one of the only sources of joy in an increasingly depressing series. Though Roslin finally led her people to Earth, she didn’t live to see them flourish. Adama’s voice over during the finale addressing her, speaking of the cabin they had always hoped to build and the sunrise… Let’s just say I was a puddle of tears. Always and forever.

5. Veronica & Logan (Veronica Mars)

To say these two had a complicated relationship is an understatement. I was a big fan of Veronica Mars when it first debuted and obsessively followed the show for its 3-season run. At first Veronica and Logan hated each other and It made a lot of sense considering Logan was a douchey rich kid, who didn’t care about anyone and Veronica was selfless and a bit of a superhero.  But after their first kiss (one of the best ever) and their subsequent season 1 relationship, viewers were pretty obsessed. Their couple name was LOVE (LOgan + VEronica) for heaven’s sake. The show definitely ended before its time, so we never were able to see if they got together, but a girl can dream (or write a fan fiction right?)

4. Michael & Sara (Prison Break)

As you’ve probably noticed by now, a TV couple is a hard thing to pull off. The writing can be there, but if the actors don’t sell it, the audience never truly gets behind them. When it’s properly established though, the audience doesn’t only get behind a couple, they obsessively want them to be together. Such is the case between Michael Scofield and Sara Tan. He was of course an inmate trying to break his brother out of jail, she was a prison doctor. It’s hard to say who fell in love with whom first, but my money’s on Sara. Have you seen Michael Scofield? The couple made it though 4 seasons of conspiracies, betrayal, and even death.  Yet came out on the other side alive and well. Though their ending wasn’t a fairytale or even that happy it was just as satisfying. I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much during a series finale.

3. Buffy & Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

Yes I know, Buffy and Angel, but trust me on this. I’ve always felt like the Buffy and Angel relationship ended when Angel got his own show and yet I was a big fan of him and Cordelia as a couple as well. I just felt that the Buffy and Spike relationship was much more interesting. It didn’t start as star crossed lovers, but as villain versus hero and that’s just good TV. I loved that Spike fell in love with Buffy before he got his soul because I felt like it made him better than Angel. He actively sought out his soul for the woman he loved and I also appreciated the the fact that Buffy was pretty well guarded during most of their relationship.  And by guarded I mean totally awful to him, but hey, she had a lot to deal with (death, resurrection, heaven, etc).  I think that on some level Buffy did really love Spike and I don’t read the comics, so I’m out of the loop on this one, but somewhere I’d like to think Buffy and Spike reconnected again.

2. Stefan & Elena (The Vampire Diaries)

During college I thought it would be fun to watch this show on the side. Unbeknownst to me, one of my roommates had all the episodes on iTunes and was totally obsessed with the show. She never really mentioned it and I decided to watch them with her. What started out as a casual show quickly became an obsession. At the focus of this obsession was the relationship between Stefan and Elena. They were absolutely amazing together that first season. The chemistry, the drama, and the heartache was just so compelling. The fact that this one guy could love this girl so much, it was simply captivating. I wanted nothing more than for them to go off and live happily ever after. Of course bringing up this relationship means I need to also bring up Damon. The love triangle between Stefan, Elena and Damon is one of the best on TV. Delena fans: no one loves Damon more than me, I love him. He has the best lines in the show and he’s just so fun when he’s on screen and yet I think Elena and him could never work out. This means I’m team Stefan and Elena and I do hope they get back together by the end of this season.

1. Max & Liz (Roswell)

I’m a Max and Liz kind of girl forever and always. The thing is in all 3 seasons of the show not once did anyone think or even entertain the idea that these two would not end up together. Sure they broke up during the second season and then Max had a child with Tess, but those were just a few minor setbacks. See, unlike the rest of the couples on this list, the ridiculous premise of this show would never tear Max and Liz apart. Why? because in the long run they realized no matter what they did, bad things would happen. They would always be stronger together than apart. The show did well keeping this a struggle between the two, and they tried to set up the whole love triangle when they brought in Tess, but come on, we all knew she was evil. I commend the show for fully committing to the couple and to their ending.  Sometimes its not about the will they/wont they, it’s about the “how do we make this work when the universe wont let us.” They found the best possible way.

I would have had Kurt and Blaine around 8 9 or 10 based solely on what they represent to the youth of this generation. Also would have moved Penny and Desmond up.

    • Eilif

But John….. TEAM NATALIE! I don’t feel that Klaine represents anything very special, at least not where I am and have been. I feel that Tara and Willow from Buffy would be there rather than Klaine, because of reason you said. It paved the way for TV, and it wasn’t just a sexy ratings thing, the first kiss they shared was one of comfort, if you can argue Klaine, you can argue Willow/Tara. I’m upset Lily and Marshall weren’t there, they’re AWESOME, but maybe this is just a Drama couple’s list.

      • http://hypable.com John Thrasher

Just because one doesn’t watch shows that include gay couples doesn’t mean they don’t exist! I took an entire class on homosexuality represented in television!

Here’s a great list of almost 100 gay couples on TV!http://www.buddybuddy.com/famous2.html

        • alexacadia

off topic a bit, sorry, but john… i’d LOVE to hear more about this class you took; for my senior thesis in a year i’m planning on continuing a research paper i wrote about homosexuality in the media, and it would be great to contact a professor from the course or hear more about things you studied/books you read/etc. is there a way i can reach you to discuss this?

    • http://twitter.com/greeneggsplusam Sam

Maybe the writer doesn’t watch Glee :)

    • snuffles44

Kurt and Blaine are wonderful for what they represent, but they have not yet been given the chance to develop into relatable people. Thus far, they are simply “that gay couple.” I believe in a couple more seasons they should definitely be on this list.

A response to your comment about all ten couples being heterosexual- The inclusion of homosexual characters and relationships in television is pretty recent. While Willow/Tara could probably have been on the list, there have simply not been many homosexual couples at all, never mind any with the qualifications to be on this list. I think this has more to do with the content of television in our society and less to do with any homophobia or intentional exclusion on the part of the writer.

  • http://hypable.com John Thrasher

I also feel 10 heterosexual couples is an interesting perspective.

    • http://twitter.com/smaloy Sarah Maloy

10 heterosexual couples from mostly sci-fi television.

      • http://Hypable.com/ James Bean

        Ten HOT sci-fi heterosexual couples.

        • http://twitter.com/smaloy Sarah Maloy

Ten HOT sci-fi heterosexual couples with vast emotional issues.

      • fcanaj

To be fair I chose the main characters of the shows I liked. It wasn’t deliberately hetero.

  • http://twitter.com/hannahfofanna24 Hannah Ridgewell

Where is Lily and Marshal from How I Met Your Mother?? Cutest couple ever!

  • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

Disagree with Stefan and Elena, personally, but SOSOSO glad LoVe is in there!

  • Diana

No Lily and Marshall from HIMYM?! D:

  • Katniss

This list doesn’t seem very all-encompassing. More like the best television couples (from a limited number of shows) and even at that, not sure I agree with some of these… Any best tv couple list must include Mulder and Scully from the X-Files!

  • Lauren

So glad you included Veronica and Logan. LoVe!

  • http://fafafab.tumblr.com/ fafafab

so wrong, Desmond and Penny but no Sun & Jin? no Rachel & Ross either? Vampire Diaries in second place? who wrote this and for how long has this person been watching tv?

  • Samantha

Didn’t Spike rape Buffy for an entire season? I know she loved him in the end, but that’s just not the way I’d like to be wooed.

    • http://booksandcastles.blogspot.com/ Sarah

He tried to rape her once (didn’t actually happen) at the end of their really messed up relationship before he had a soul. Then he immediately went of to get his soul back.

      • Tamtam77453

Ya, Spike tried to rape Buffy, but she had been emotionally raping or “using” him for months so not exactly a healthy couple. Now you could adjust this list to seperate couples that have the best chemistry with Spike/Buffy being on the top, then have a completly different list of couples whose relationships worked and were respecttful. Then picking the best couple from the BTVS universe, you’d have to go with Willow and Tara.

  • oblyviate

Logan and Veronica!! always! (coincidentally watching season 2 finale right now…) (anyone else sad that Logan wasnt in the Season 4 trailer-tease-begging-for-renewal thing?)
(I agree with Klaine, Lily and Marshall too – and also, for me, Luke and Lorelai!)

    • Lauren

I thought that the Season 4 teaser was terrible!
Friends and I were talking about it last night and one of them mentioned how Veronica had always been someone people turned to when the ‘system’ (police, FBI) failed or couldn’t be trusted. I don’t like that she started working for the FBI and playing by their rules.

Plus without Logan it wouldn’t be the same!

      • oblyviate

yeah, i think they were trying to go for something that wasnt on tv at the time (therefore improve renewal chances)
however, she did have FBI aspirations (with the internship) and her dad certainly didnt want her to be a private investigator – but then again, she was implicated in a kidnapping charge (and as xena and the ncis director said, those things don’t just disappear)

        • Lauren

Yeah that is true. I just don’t think it would have worked, unless they changed it somehow. I’m not totally against her being an FBI agent, I just didn’t enjoy that preview.
But in the end if it meant a 4th season I would be happy with pretty much anything!

  • nova

First, I just want to say this list is genius in itself for reminding me of shows I loved 5 years ago.  The only one I would take away is the prison break couple (mostly because I just never watched prison break) and add Buffy and Angel.  While it may seem redundant to have two couples from the same show on a top 10 list, I think it’s only fair to honor the show that gave us one of the first kick ass heroines to have not one but two romances that were worthy of her (including the darkness of each romance, which, let’s face it, is intrinsic to Buffy herself).

  • Kristen

    My top couples

    Simon/Kaylee (Firefly)
    Jack/Kate (Lost)
    Jim/Pam (The Office)
Casey/Cappie (Greek) I’m probably the only person that watched that show. I highly reccommend it if you have Netflix! You gotta get through the first few though. It gets better.

    • Theaterboy1

I LOVE Greek! Casey and Cappie were the best!!

    • Poppy

Greek was one of my favorite shows!!  And I totally agree that Casey and Cappie were a great couple!

    • J. Shea

I’d replace Simon/Kaylee, with Zoe/Wash, myself — Simon/Kaylee was just too awkward between them, too painful to watch, whereas the relationship between Zoe and Wash was so beautiful.

  • http://twitter.com/fabulousjoshie Joshua Harris

Piper and Leo (Charmed) That is all!

  • Theaterboy1

Nice list! On mine there would be Blaine and Kurt from Glee, Clark Kent and Lois Lane from Smallville, Piper and Leo from Charmed, and Adam and Cassie from The Secret Circle!

    • http://www.facebook.com/lilliempeterson Lillie Marie Peterson

Adam and Cassie break my heart.

      • Lauren

Lets hope Melissa isn’t the next girl in the circle that Adam moves on to. He belongs with Cassie!

  • Ssahrishkhan08

Chuck and Blair (Gossip Girl) need to be up there!

    • Meghan

There needs to be a “most doomed but we root for them anyway list” haha

  • James

    Charlie and Claire from Lost

  • Ssahrishkhan08

And Santana and Britt (Glee) I like them better than Kurt and Blaine

    • Mia

I’ve always found it hard to believe that Brittany is in love with Santana. I know how Santana feels, but I never believed Brittany. I don’t think it’s the acting; but I feel like they pushed those two together.

      • Elly

agreed, I honestly felt more from brittanys side when she was with Artie even

  • Eilif

How would Blaine and Kurt EVER make this list. They are an AWFUL couple. I love Blaine, I love Kurt, I HATE Klaine.

  • KatnissLovegood

    • Temperance:)

      Yeaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!! I love BONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • KatnissLovegod

And let’s PLEASE not forget Piper and Leo from Charmed!!!!

  • ElisabetaLugosi_RP

I would add Buffy and Angel (I love Spike but Buffy and Angel… they were epic), Piper and Leo (at least the first 3 seasons), Monica and Chandler (they were the cuter couple in my opinion) and I HAVE to bring up Turk and JD (Scrubs) and Shawn and Gus (Psych)… I know they aren’t technically a “couple” but come on… they were the ones really dating on that show.. hahaha.. woot woot for Veronica Mars being on the list!

    • Elly

Shawn and Gus!!! HAHAHHA LOVE IT, best on-screen bromance ever

      • Anna

LMFAO! I love Shawn & Jules, but Shawn & Gus’s bromance is EPIC!

  • http://hypable.com Selina

WHOA dude. I agree with so many of these. But still feel you left out some important ones. Ahh I try not to have an opinion on shipping but now I’m itching to write my own list!

    • Lauren

I would be interested to see your list

    • 7Starrchasers

      Please write your own list!

    • fcanaj

Would love to see your list!

    • http://twitter.com/NatashaPeartree Natasha Pereira

      doooo iiittttt

  • CliveRogan

When I think of Buffy and Spike together I can’t help but predominantly think of the time he tried to rape her.  They probably had the least healthy relationship of anyone ever.

    • http://booksandcastles.blogspot.com/ Sarah

He also didn’t have a soul and was an evil thing. After this he literally tortured himself to get his soul back so he could love Buffy like a man and not a demon, so I’d say that’s pretty impressive.

      • CliveRogan

Yeah, he did torture himself to get his soul back, but I sill stand by the opinion that that’s not the stuff healthy romances are based on.  Most relationships require you to adapt to the other, but it’s never a good idea to change yourself completely for another person.

        • Sarah

He wasn’t changing himself. He was getting himself–his soul, in fact–back and getting out of the control of the demon living inside his body. Really, he was coming into himself.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Anthony-Rex/100003224841100 Anthony Rex

     Cory and Topanga.

  • Megan

Max and Liz most definitely!! :)

  • Samantha

This article is missing couples from an entire genre of TV shows that are still pretty incredible. Ross and Rachel OR Chandler and Monica from Friends anybody? Or did I just date myself? Even taking current shows-Lily/Marshall from HIMYM, Jim/Pam from the Office (in my opinion the most REALISTIC couple on TV, which is almost what’s made the show boring recently), Kurt/Blaine from Glee (like somebody else said, so important for this generation).

    • http://twitter.com/elanorosavan Beth

      agree. well put!

  • Greek Gleek

Not sure about Spike & Buffy but otherwise, a great list… I would second a few of the comments below in that the following couples should also be up there…
    Jim/Pam (The Office)
    Kurt/Blaine (Glee)
    Casey/Cappie (Greek)

There are probably loads of TV couples that I’ve liked over the years, but these 3 are the main standouts (for me) that weren’t mentioned above…

  • http://twitter.com/Annanass777 Anna Di

    umm…how about Kurt and Blaine?

  • http://twitter.com/meghan036 meghan fox

    I would have to go:
    10) Joey/Pacey (Dawson’s Creek)
    9) Kelly/Dylan (90210)
    8) Spencer/Toby (Pretty Little Liars)
    7) Rory/Logan (Gilmore Girls) or Lorelei/Luke
    6) Piper/Leo (Charmed)
    5) Veronica/Logan (Veronica Mars)
    4) Sydney/Vaughn (Alias)
    3) Damon/Elena (Vampire Diaries)
    2) Max/Liz (Roswell)
    1) Lucas/Peyton (One Tree Hill)

    • Lauren

Good list!! Love 8/7/5/3! I miss GG and Veronica Mars!

  • ravenclaw1991

I love that Amy and Rory are on this list. To be honest they are the only ones I know on this list..
I would add Nina Martin and Fabian Rutter from House of Anubis on Nickelodeon. Best couple ever :D

  • http://booksandcastles.blogspot.com/ Sarah

Joey/Pacey. #1. I don’t know who could see Dawson’s Creek and argue against it.

    • fcanaj

Never saw DC – so can’t argue.

  • Grace

Rose and  Ten from Dr. Who?

  • http://www.facebook.com/JesseB.72 Jesse Barrow

Michael and Fiona (Burn Notice) should make it on this list as well as Shawn and Juliet (Psych), Clark and Lois (Smallville), Jack and Allison (Eureka), and Damon and Rose (The Vampire Diaries). I understand this is someones opinion so I won’t hold it against you but besides Chuck and Sarah and Stefan and Elena I didn’t really care for any of these other couples on this list. I saw someone below me say Monica and Chandler and Rachel and Ross (Friends) and I totally agree but since I didn’t think of them until you said it i’ll give credit where credit is due. :D

    • Wes Oxford

As much as I will always love Jack and Allison, and as much as I am so happy they got together… I have fallen in love with Grace and Henry as a couple… I like how they were thrust into it without any warning, and they still made it work… She has become one of my favorite characters in the short time she has been on the show.

      • http://www.facebook.com/JesseB.72 Jesse Barrow

Truth be told I like there’s as well but Jack and Allison best

    • http://twitter.com/NatashaPeartree Natasha Pereira

totally agree with Michael and Fiona too!!

    • Lauren

Just wondering why you chose Damon and Rose? They don’t have much development as a couple so I’d be interesting in your reasoning behind it. :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/JesseB.72 Jesse Barrow

Because I’m a fan of spontaneous love that he fell that hard that fast is truly what made them a great couple and it absolutely crushed me when he killed her T_T

  • http://twitter.com/walshcaitlin Caitlin Walsh

This list is not absolute, as every show on here has sci-fi elements.  Good thing there’s the word opinion in front of it.

  • http://twitter.com/NatashaPeartree Natasha Pereira

so excited to see Sydney/Vaughn!!! yes!!!

    Lucas/Peyton, Haley/Nathan, Piper/Leo and Pacey/Joey make my all-time list too!!

  • Byron Duenas

I don’t think these are absolute like the title exclaims. I think these are just the top couples form the show that he/she watches. Ross and Rachel, Monica and Chandler, Cory and Topanga, Zack and Kelly come to mind…

    • http://twitter.com/NatashaPeartree Natasha Pereira

      Cory and Topanga <3

  • christinachristina

oh man. i just finished battlestar galactica a couple of weeks ago and still, everytime i think about the finale and adama and roslin i start crying again. so glad you included them. also, during LAB (life after battlestar) i’ve begun watching how i met your mother, and marshall and lily are like THE CUTEST COUPLE EVER.

  • Amanda

I wonder if this is showing my age, BUT, what about Niles/Daphne from Frasier or Rachel/Ross from Friends. I most certainly agree with some when it comes to Pacey/Joey from Dawson’s Creek. Whoo for the late 90s-early 2000s! lol

    • Wes Oxford

I’m only 20, so I’m a little young, but I loved Fraiser growing up, and I still watch the occasional re-run, and I LOVE Niles and Daphne!

      • Amanda

I just turned 26, but man, do I FEEL Old. lol  Frasier is my all-time favorite show. Like the hypable article addressed: it’s my “comfort” show. :)

  • http://twitter.com/purplehrdwonder Caitlin Kelly

I’ve never been able to like Buffy/Spike. He pressured her far too much when she was dealing with some pretty horrific things (like dying and being ripped from Heaven by her friends among others) and the near-rape scene is never far from mind. Him searching for his soul always reeked of desperation to be like Angel so she *might* like him better to me. Not to mention the dialogue in the finale: “I love you.” “No you don’t. But thanks for saying it.” I think they *could* have worked but didn’t.

Buffy/Angel is my forever OTP, haha.

I’m also currently loving Michael/Nikita from Nikita. The couple that spies together stays together ;)

    • Wes Oxford

I agree! I liked Spike as a villain, he was great, so great that it wasn’t a surprise when he tried to rape Buffy, but I was surprise that people still seemed to like him after that fact, and that people still Ship the two as a couple, I know that its a story, and that it wasn’t a real thing, but I can never get over the fact that he tried to rape her, and everybody seems to ignore it :/

  • Jd

My number one couple is Simon and Alisha from Misfits. That’s one of the most tragic tv couples. Every time i think of their ending it breaks my heart. I’m not joking.

  • Kta611

No Jack and Kate and no Rachel and Ross. This list is definitely flawed

    • Lauren

You are missing the point. It’s an OPINION piece therefore you don’t have to agree with what fcanaj is saying! Just because you don’t agree with it doesn’t mean it is flawed!

      • fcanaj

it’s meant to be a jump off point for everyone to discuss their favorite couples as well. :)

        • Lauren

I agree. It just annoys me when people say that others are wrong when its just their opinion

          • fcanaj

I think the title is throwing people off. its not meant to be definitive. its my opinion on my favorite shows.

          • Lauren

            That’s what I thought.

  • Vikki

    Jack/Ianto, anyone?

  • Lauren

I think some people are missing the point! It’s an OPINION piece. You don’t necessarily have to agree- its the authors absolute list, not yours! It is good to hear everyones opinion :)

  • meadows

I agree with so many ideas on here, not just the ones in the article but also the ones in the comments. I guess we could all go on and on forever because we’ve all watched way too much TV… But I’d just like to add one from my all-time favorite fictional couples to the list.

    Josh/Donna from The West Wing.

Because from the very first episode onwards, there was something there. The characters developed over time; they grew as individuals and as professionals. It took seven seasons, a myriad of emotionally-charged moments and episodes, and a change in leadership concerning the creative direction of the show to get them together. But in the end, they had their happy ending because they deserved to have one. And the fans deserved to get a happy ending for them.

So yeah, this is just me adding my two cents…

    • Lauren

I loved CJ and Danny as well. Unfortunately Danny wasn’t in it as much as I would have liked. But I thought they were cute together

      • meadows

Agreed. CJ and Danny were great together, too. And they had to wait just as long as Donna and Josh to reach the finish line.

        • Lauren

They did. At least we had plenty of Josh/Donna interaction throughout the series.

What a good show that was/is.

  • Soapstef

Spike & Buffy would be #1 on my list. The push & pull there was better than anything on TV!

I did grow to love Angel & Cordelia so that really helped with letting go of Buffy & Angel. If Wesley & Fred had made any kind of life together I’d add them to my list as well. Maybe we need a list of “heartbreaking almost couples”.

  • Gary65

    What is with Elena’s hair?

    • http://twitter.com/NatashaPeartree Natasha Pereira

hahaah! i thought the same thing! when was Elena blonde?

      • ElisabetaLugosi_RP

It could be a Fan manipulated pic, since Elena was blonde in the books? They probably thought she was going to dye her hair. I’m just guessing though… :/

  • Bumble

Luke and Lorelai from Gilmore Girls…’nough said:)

  • Gary65

Josh/Donna and Abbey/Jed on The West Wing, Booth & Brennan on Bones, Garcia & Morgan on Criminal Minds(I know they’re not properly together but they’re awesome), Emily & everyone on Revenge(doesn’t matter if they’re dating or not. They’re a joy to watch, particularly Nolan).

Just a few more awesome pairings off the top of my head.

    • http://twitter.com/greeneggsplusam Sam

If they’re not dating then they’re not a couple :P

      • Gary65

You have a very narrow view of life and how people relate to each other.

    • http://twitter.com/BrandiTiana Brandi Delhagen

I love Emily with ANYONE on that show! Especially Nolan as stated :)

  • AliceHermione

I will say this I was EXTREMELY excited to see Logan and Veronica but more importantly Chuck and Sarah on this list. I was going in with a they won’t be there but I’ll check it out anyway. That I cannot thank you enough for. I would disagree with you on the Buffy pairing (sorry I’m a sucker for Tara and Willow) and I was a little bummed not to see Turk and Carla on there from Scrubs. But I have to say because two couples I never see on these types of lists made it I say THANK YOU!

  • Phlossy

I’m so excited to see Roswell!! I loved that show! Still love it. I have it on DVD. Haha. In college I managed to turn not only my roommate and group of friends, but my entire dorm onto Roswell.

  • Eilif

  • soph

This makes me miss veronica mars :(

  • Button Eyed Baby

I love love love that you mention Roslin and Adama. God, I shipped it so hard. Also, yay for Spike and Buffy! The infinitely more complex and interesting Buffy pairing IMO. Logan and Veronica should have had more of a shot, as well as the whole series of course… I have many additional favourites, but I just wanted to point out the ones I loved you mentioning :)

  • Martha V.

I just finished (well I’m on the last episode) re-watching Roswell. Its still one of my favorite shows and I LOVED Max and Liz…knew that no matter what they would end up together!

  • Kimmee

I’m just saying that Ross and Rachel should be on this list

    • http://twitter.com/NatashaPeartree Natasha Pereira

damn it Ross and Rachel too… arrghh so many good couples!

  • Hermione Granger

Luke & Lorelai. Forever & Always.

    • http://twitter.com/NatashaPeartree Natasha Pereira

of course!! luke and lorelai!! yesss!

  • gcw07

There have been so many great couples over the years it would be very hard for me to pick 10. I agree with several of yours. I absolutely love Max and Liz and Chuck and Sarah (which is why I was very upset about the finale of Chuck). Rory and Amy are up there and again I’m going to be really upset if they end up killing one off this upcoming season. Sydney and Vaughn would be up there probably as high or higher then Chuck and Sarah. I’d have to add Ross and Rachel to my list, along with probably Summer and Seth from The O.C. I would also add J.D. and Elliot from Scrubs, Ed and Carol from Ed, and I’m sure there are hundreds more I could come up with, but at leave it at that.

  • http://twitter.com/EvanescentChaos Chazlyn

Connor Temple and Abby Maitland from Primeval.

  • krislintz

This is a very Sci-Fi/Drama heavy list. I feel like if you were looking at comedies, it would be a completely different list. (Though, this is refreshing, not seeing Ross and Rachel at the top of the list.) Good job.

  • http://profiles.google.com/gfludal gfludal

I think Melinda and Jim from Ghost Whisperer deserves a place on the list.

  • Riley Peek

I think that Ted/Robin from HIMYM, Ross/Rachel from Friends, Chandler/Monica from Friends, Lily/Marshall from HIMYM, Jim/Pam from The Office should all have been on here! I mean Amy and Rory/Buffy and Spike are alright, but not the others. The aforementioned relationships all have a LOT of depth and dynamicity to them (Jim/Pam not as much, though).

  • Elly

    Ross/Rachel from Friends!!! :(

  • Temperance:)

Booth and Bones hands down always my number 1!!

  • http://twitter.com/BlueHuMac HuMac

    I miss Roswell! :’)

  • Helen Chang

Nathan and Haley from One Tree Hill need that spot too. In 8 seasons their love just grew and grew. They had set backs but in the end, it was always going to be Nathan and Haley!

  • hpatdh33

Desmend and Penny should be number 1.  Their journey was the greatest, Juliet and sawyer were pretty awesome too! I wonder if Ted Mosbey wife will make this list eventually.

  • Band Gazebo

Scully and Mulder are a glaring omission! Especially considering this list is sci-fi heavy

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1277735552 Arena Thompson

That was my first ‘ship…. Good call!

    • loves2read

I was thinking I was too old for this list – Mulder and Scully all the way!

    • Quidditchfn1

Thank goodness! I was scrolling down the list of comments to see if anyone else mentioned Mulder and Scully, becasue David and Gillian had such a rare chemistry that is totally apparent in every single ep!

    • meadows

Oh yes. Scully and Mulder basically epitomize the TV couple with perfect chemistry and writers drawing a sort-of-happy conclusion out until the end. One of the great TV couples of the 90s.

  • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

Everyone who mentioned Piper and Leo from Charmed I love you, they would be my #1. I agree with John too, I would have Kurt and Blaine on here somewhere, also Sabrina and Harvey from Sabrina

  • Shantelle

Booth and Bones should have been on that list, Little Christine is so adorable!!

  • http://twitter.com/greeneggsplusam Sam

    Mulder and Scully.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=722496967 Ana Selene Rodriguez Garcia

Buffy and Spike are the best!!!!!

  • Jamie

Awesome list!  I would probably have also included Joey/Pacey (he bought her a wall), Peter/Olivia (so powerful he came back from being wiped from existance), Josh/Donna (so much build up!), Lily/Marshall (pretty much couple perfection), Brenda/Fritz (does that make me sound old? I just adore them)

    • Irish_Sheep

Totally agree with your list, especially Josh/Donna!

  • http://hypable.com Selina

I wanna say that it was eerie reading your reasoning for Buffy/Spike. It seemed almost verbatim like something I wrote once about the pairing, down to the bit about Spike being better than Angel because he actively sought out his soul, and his love being special because it came despite of him being evil. Wow. I also agree with Liz/Max (wouldn’t put them first though), Sydney/Vaughn, LoVe, and Roslin/Obama. :) Great reasonings for all.

  • Gryffinclaw

I was really happy to see Amy and Rory on this list :)

I know this might be controversial but…Xena and Gabrielle? Their love transended lifetimes, gender, death, and they’re soulmates in every sense of the word…Just a thought.

  • Erika H

ECSTATIC to see 4 of my top five TV couples of ALL TIME on here- Spike/Buffy, Amy/Rory, and Desmond/Penny. Logan/Veronica is probably my number 6, and Roslin/Adama is up there, too. The rest of the shows I haven’t seen, but I trust your judgement. :)

    • Erika H

Meant 3* of my top five. Oops.

  • VMRx

I love this list! Buffy/Spike and Max/Liz are the favourites for me. The rest of my list would be made up by Joey/Pacey, Maddy/David [Moonlighting], Booth/Bones, Castle/Beckett, Angel/Darla, Batiatus/Lucretia [Spartacus], Angela/Jordan [My So-Called Life] and Willow/Tara. With an honourable mention to Spike/Drusilla.

I am currently in the middle of re-watching Buffy and Angel, which may explain why my list swamped with Whedonverse characters. :D

  • Kelly Barker

What’s up with Elena’s hair in that picture? Hahaha

  • Kyndall

    Where is Chandler and Monica….

    • Kyndall

      *are, my bad.

    • blackkiko

      what about Rachel and Ross?

      • Kyndall

Them as well! I must admit, however, I always liked the Chandler/Monica and how it was a secret for however long more than Ross/Rachel (although, they were always the most obvious couple)

  • blackkiko

I think Alias had the best finale ever for season 2. With Sydney missing 2 years and Vaughn getting married. I even think it was better than the season 4 finale. A car crash is kinda cheesy

  • http://twitter.com/BrandiTiana Brandi Delhagen

You’ve named some REALLY good ones. I was never a Buffy/Spike shipper though, I can never get the rape scene out of my head! But a few that I personally feel were left out are (in no particular order)

Boy Meets World- Cory & Topanga

Saved By the Bell- Slater & Jessie (better than Zack and

    The Office- Jim & Pam

The L Word- Shane & Carmen (Most of you prob didn’t watch
    this show, MY FAV!)

True Blood- Sookie & Bill/Eric (I LOVE ERIC, but I think
    Sookie’s better with Bill)

    Home Improvement- Tim & Jill

Fresh Prince- Hillary & Trevor (LOL I had to put this

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1073580037 Alexis Walker-Sexton

See…my problem with Buffy/Spike is the whole attempted rape thing. I think the show handled it well but yeah, to me when one partner tries to sexually assault another that automatically discounts them from being a great couple, no matter how badly the assaulter feels. The relationship was well written and interesting to watch but I wouldn’t call them a good couple….

  • Dreamer

I must say that I completely agree with:
    Rory and Amy
    Chuck and Sarah

    I’d like to add:
    Jim and Pam (The Office)
    Bones and Booth (Bones)
    Angela and Hodgins (Bones)
    Sean and Juliet (Psych)
    Michael and Fiona (Burn Notice)

    • Temperance:)

Completely agree with booth and brennan and angela and hodgins!

    • http://hypable.com John Thrasher

      Pam and Jim!!!!

  • annie

    where is jim and pam?

  • Creevs

I’m certainly missing the Cory/Topanga. They were sort of fabulous. And we got to watch their entire lives together, which was really special.

  • LilyLuna

Lists like these are swayed towards the genre of television the poster prefers, understandably. But were it my own list, I would have definitely put Lily and Marshall (HIMYM), Harvey and Sabrina (Sabrina the teenage witch), Luke and Lorelai (Gilmore Girls), Eric and Donna (That 70s show), and Monica and Chandler (Friends).

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1277735552 Arena Thompson

Oh I so totally agree on your #1 choice! Max and Liz were probably my second most hardcore ‘ship (Mulder/Scully being my first). I joined forums for Roswell, I wrote fanfiction NOVELS for max and liz. Sigh. Ohmygosh the memories!

  • Gaby

I love Penny and Desmond and Liz and Max!!!

  • http://twitter.com/ameywakeford Amey Wakeford

Totally agree with Liz and Max (Alex and Izzy though still makes me tear up) Desmond and Penny i would have put second (“see you in a notha life brotha” NOT PENNYS BOAT!) Crushes me when i think of them two but at least they found each other and i came to the same conclusion on Lost, its not the destination, its how you get there!

  • Kay

    Rachel and Ross??

  • Megan

Haley and Nathan from One Tree Hill?!!?

  • Malayni

Everything you said about #2 was PERFECT. I agree with a previous commenter that Nathan and Haley from OTH would be a wonderful addition too!

  • Andrew_ww

Jim and Pam (The Office) should be on that list

  • Andrew_ww

Jim and Pam (The Office) should be on that list

  • shieldjinx36

no classics. these should all be in the top 10 at least:
    rachel and ross
    cory and topanga
    zack morris and kelly

  • Scribbler

I miss Veronica Mars :( That show kicked ass!

  • Maddy323

Corey and Topanga, Ross and Rachel, Chandler and Monica, and Jim and Pam…
    For sure.

  • MJW

um, forget Jim and Pam, WHERE ARE JOHN AND SHERLOCK

    (unfortunately :( )

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Rachel-Whelen/514317641 Rachel Whelen

My completely subjective not at all absolute list.
    1)Buffy and Spike
    2)Willow and Tara
3)Maria and Michael (Way cuter couple than Max and liz)
    4)Blair and Chuck
    5) Penny and Desmond
    6) Lorelai and Luke
    7)Fred and Wes
    8)Veronica and Logan
    9)Olivia and Peter
    10)Lily and Marshall
    Honourable Mentions
    Rory and Jess
    Kate and Sawyer
    Rose and the Doctor
Abed and Troy (who technically arn’t a Romantic couple but I love them together the all the same)

    • LilyLuna

I love that you chose Rory and Jess and not Rory and Dean. I prefered Jess too. :)

  • Buzz Lightyear

Wasn’t really expecting Chuck and Sarah to be on this list, but was pleasantly surprised that they were! I think Shawn and Juliet would’ve been a long shot, but not including Jim and Pam? Something’s wrong with that picture.

    • TheOneAndOnlyCliche

  • bethanny23

Yes! Roswell! God I love that show.

  • http://www.hypable.com/ Kristin LeMunyon

The first thing I thought before I read this was “If Desmond and Penny aren’t on here, I’m gonna be upset.” It was such a breath of fresh air when I saw them listed! :)

  • drugstorediet

  • http://twitter.com/glasswatar Suri Meipapilionis

I know not many people like this show but NIKITA AND MICHAEL! From nikita :)

  • Fireflyrenix55

  • Kat

I know how Elena’s blond-haired and blue-eyed in the book, but wow that picture of Nina is weird. Still love the article though!

  • http://twitter.com/bsbrock Janeth Gutierrez

LOL I ship only two of those couples & only one would I consider an otp.

    My list would consist of…
    The Doctor/Rose (Doctor Who)
    Buffy/Angel (BtVS)
    Peter/Olivia (Fringe)
    Damon/Elena (TVD)
    Jack/Kate (Lost)
    Ross/Rachel (Friends)
    Logan/Veronica (Veronica Mars)
    Simon/Alisha (Misfits)
    Snow White/Prince Charming (OUAT)
    Cory/Topanga (Boy Meets World)
Zach/Kelly (Saved By the Bell) also probably the first ship I ever had without knowing I was shipping lol

  • Broadwaybound721

Most of these shows aren’t even on anymore!

  • Alton de Jesus

I guess you need ti make a poll for TV shows, spanning 5 or 10 years each. I mean, there are a lot of good couple out there.
MAX and LIZ is my favorite TV couple OTP. And I don’t have much TV couple faves.

  • muysi

Max and Liz were so perfect! Tess ruined everything.

  • smwilley

    Chuck and Sarah! <3

  • BSG88

Lily and Marshall should be #1 and they’re not even on the list!

  • My Ship Shall Sail

    • MJW

  • Master_Regulus

What about Matthew and Mary from Downton Abbey?

    • Luna97831

  • http://www.facebook.com/katie.bjordahl Katie Bjordahl

Yes Amy and Rory! I love them!

  • Andrea

what about a great couple who make a really awful tv show bearable? dan and blair, intellectual couple who make TV show that got storyline like traded your girlfriend for a hotel, sharing a brother with your boyfriend, dead guy come to live, and watch out for a guest star because they could be your actual parent or sibling worth to watch, btw I really like this list!

  • http://twitter.com/LauraK483 Laura Krause

DELENA DELENA DELENA!!!!! I could rant forever with specific examples to back it up but Stefan is much more dishonest with Elena (even if it’s for a good reason), Damon and Elena call each other on their shit and make each other better, Stefan has a far more evil and darker side to him than Damon (as much as Damon likes to pretend otherwise), and Damon has proven himself 10 times over and far more worthy of forgiveness for his crimes (in which I think Stefan still has him beat, LINE OF HEADLESS BODIES, ALMOST MURDERING ELENA IN THE SAME WAY/PLACE HER PARENTS WERE MURDERED). That’s my attempt at summarizing what is quite a lengthy rant in my head.

    • Beckah

Ew, Delena? No offense, but Damon has NOT proved himself more worthy of forgiveness… when Stefan was a ripper, with his humanity OFF, he was horrible, yes. But even when Damon has his humanity ON, he still rapes Caroline AND Andie, kills Jeremy on multiple accounts, threatens Elena several times and lies to her multiple times, tries to kill Katherine when she’s at her weakest and is defenseless, killed Lexi to save his own pathetic ass, attempting to kill Bonnie, killing Vicki Donovan by snapping her neck, killing John (though he may have deserved it), killing Alaric who’s his best friend TWICE, AND LET’S NOT EVEN FORGET THAT HE TRIED TO RAPE ELENA! TWICE! Tell me… how the HELL is he more worthy of forgiveness? In the 100th episode, Damon tells Liz that “every bad thing he’s ever done is linked to Katherine.” when no. It isn’t. Katherine didn’t make Damon do any of the things he did to Elena and her friends and family. All Katherine did was show up on his doorstep in 1864 and play with his foolish little boy’s heart. He CHOSE to drink her blood while still human. He WANTED to become a vampire to be with her forever. He was so naive that he couldn’t see that Katherine didn’t really love him at all. So, basically, all Katherine did was mess with him while he was still human and then put the plan of him becoming a vampire into motion. She didn’t make him swear to Stefan that he’d make sure Stefan knew torture for the rest of eternity. She didn’t make him “fall in love” with Elena. She didn’t make him kill Zach. The fact that ANYONE can justify what Damon’s done is just disgusting to me. Because unlike Damon, Stefan was saved by Lexi and he turned his humanity back on, and afterwards, he spent YEARS and YEARS torturing himself over how he was while he was Ripper Stefan. And it wasn’t his fault he became a ripper again, as he did it to SAVE DAMON’S LIFE when really, if you ask me, Damon didn’t deserve it then and he sure as hell doesn’t deserve it now. Damon’s filthy and he is pathetic. Saying that Damon is better than Stefan is like saying Tyler is better for Caroline than Klaus is (when neither Damon or Tyler are better for Elena and Caroline than Stefan and Klaus are). When everyone finally gets that through their minds that both Damon and Tyler are jackasses–pathetic ones, at that–then the world will be a much better place.

  • Dsdsasas

i so agree with the ones you have chosen especially max and liz, i love them a lot. you have done a great job with this list

  • Frank123123984566758

seriously.. am a delena fan.. all the way

  • Gradenharper

what about gossip girl… Chuck and Blair.. C &B!!!

  • jack harkness

Ianto Jones and Captain Jack Harkness should aways be number 1

  • ssupergoalie1617

This list is bad. Just….. bad. List is composed entirely of relatively modern shows. I mean come on, even Sam and Diane from Cheers destroys anybody on this list. Whoever made this list needs to watch television before the year 2000.

  • Ezra-Fan

Aria and Ezra from Pretty little liars..

  • katy

John and Aeryn from Farscape are probably the most beautiful couple I have ever seen on and tv show.

  • lola

You missed a lot of shows.. But I agree with most of the couples you put up apart from Elena and Stefan, i mean i guess they are cute but I would have put Damon and Elena they have better chemistry and much more interesting.

  • Gem

I agree with these! But you forgot 2 couples: Chuck and Blair from Gossip Girl. They’ve had one of the most electrifying relationships on TV in a while and gave overcome SO many obstacles; they’re PERFECT for each other. And Shawn and Juliet from Psych. Everyone likes to forget Psych, but Shawn & Jules are so cute! The romance was slow, over 7 years, but I LOVED seeing how Jules managed to “tame” Shawn in a way snd help him become a bit more mature. Together, they’re tough as balls but still so adorable. Still, I’m glad you included Doctor Who! LOVE Amy and Rory!

  • allen

Where’s the fucking X-files?! David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson should definitely be within the top 5. They just look great together, and even though it was just a tv show… they still seemed like a real pair… some of those moments of them looking at each other, I don’t know how anybody could fake such tenderness in their eyes. Also, the Dick van Dyke show… mary tyler moore and dick van dyke certainly went well together.

  • Ghazal

Michael and Sara all they way! :( <3

  • Beza Fekade

    Where’s Lucas and Peyton?

  • Bitsy

Ezra and Aria from PLL! ♥

  • maiya d

    Fran and Max

  • flor

stefan and elena! epic love! true love! pure love!

  • Tiara

Nice list, but Spike and Buffy should be the nº 1.
