We’ve recently been keeping you posted with news about the upcoming film adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. Today, it was announced that Leven Rambin (The Hunger Games) will star in a lead role!

Variety reports she will star as Ares’ daughter:

Leven Rambin has signed for more battles with a leading role in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Sea of Monsters opposite Logan Lerman, Variety’s Dave McNary reports. Rambin will play the role of Clarisse, the daughter of Ares, the God of War. Her character’s described as being skilled at battle and a perfectionist.

This sounds awesome to us! Are you excited to see Rambin in another battle-filled role?

  • STEFON

Again, why is this being made?

    • Mel823

       Why is any movie made?

      • kmorris76

        $$

  • onedfan

OMG THIS SHOULD TOTALLY BE MADE BUT IT BETTER NOT BE AS DISAPPOINTING AS THE LAST MOVIE! it has the potential to be so good but it just has to be made well. but im happy she’s in it!

  • Gary65

Given that I thought she was a transexual when I first saw her on Grey’s Anatomy(not that she was a transexual but that her character was. She was very butch-looking and she was talking to the head of plastic surgery so it’s a reasonable conclusion…….kinda) , this could definitely work.

  • applepie

Who does she play in The Hunger Games??

    • http://twitter.com/taylorelizibeth Taylor Leonard

      UMMM…..just GLIMMER!

      • severus

Because Glimmer is the most earth-shattering, 3-dimensional character there is…

    • Chiokiwi

Glimmer, the district 1 female tribute.

  • rdh014

I’m guessing the writers didn’t read the books….

    • Marie

They may not have, seeing as the author sold the movie rights 5 years before he published the first book. So they may have already made their own plans. Leven Rambin is an amazing actress, but she unfortunately does not fit the description of Clarisse at all.

  • Kayla

If there were any problem I had with the Percy Jackson movie franchise (besides, you know, the complete removal of the key to the entire plot), it’s the age.
It was (and still is) a children’s series, intended for children and those of the younger teenage years. Hence, the age of the main characters in the books were similar to their readers.
They were never, never, ever intended to be 16+. Percy didn’t even reach two months over sixteen when the main series ended! But, then again, the age thing was central to the Prophecy, which was the backbone for the plot…both of which the movie franchise removed…

I agree here. It’s really disappointing that the first movie was only *ok*. I expected more from the director of HPSS and CoS, who claimed he would go home, show his kids footage, and ask if this is how they imagined it.

I guess his kids are too old to judge now :/

I want this movie to be good. But As of now, with the delay of it and all that, I just don’t see the series fleshing out well and I’m surprised they are continuing with it. Why not just make The Heroes of Olympus instead and do it right? :)

      • http://twitter.com/greeneggsplusam Sam

The first movie wasn’t “okay”…it was the butchered and gutted remains of a great series turned into moving picture T_T

  • butters

In my opinion, she’s waaay to pretty to play Clarisse.
Like no offence to Clarisse. I love her. Shes badass. but shes supposed to look tough muscled and scary. the exact opposite of this chick.

  • HanLin

This is seeming promising.  The worst part of the first movie was the absence of many characters (including Clarisse) as well as differing from the plot of the book. The fact that they are adding in all of the characters that were omitted is a positive sign that they are going to stick to the original plot this time around.

  • http://twitter.com/Michaelnono Mike Nolan

Wait you mean she’s not replacing the actress who played annabeth? that’s disappointing  >.>

    • 7Starrchasers

      haha my thoughts exactly!

  • http://twitter.com/CatKoski Cat Koski

It’s probably just this photo, but yeah, my first thought also was “she’s too pretty” but then again she’s not in character. Also I’m probably the only here that actually liked the move.

  • gcw07

She is a good actress, just not what I imagined for the part. She is a lot better looking then how I imagined her. I thought of her more as a tom boy and butch. Of course, Annabeth isn’t exactly how I imagined her too (or even how she is described in the book).

  • kate

Yah!!!!! she was awesome in the HG. Hopefully she’ll do a good job again

  • http://megan-conway.blogspot.com/ Megan Conway

She’s too… girly looking to play Clarisse. From what I saw of her in THG proves she’s a great actress, but she just isn’t right for this role.

  • TheRealHP

Oh god no… why the hell would they put us Demigods through another half asked adaption?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Connor-Frye/1326652893 Connor Frye

No. Making this movie is the equivalent of making a sequel to the terrible Eragon adaption or the terrible Alex Rider adaption. Not without a good reboot.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VCJSDSEDKYOBEKWGIXCDB2QPYA Henry

that movie wasn’t as bad as eragon troll!! Eragon was the worst movie ever!!

      • 7Starrchasers

this movie was just as bad as Eragon….i wanted to cry when I watched it..seriously.

    • http://twitter.com/greeneggsplusam Sam

Why are we going to Vroengard?

  • Slytherinhero01

See, I love the Percy Jackson series. I hold it dear to me close to Harry Potter. But I HATED the way they butchered The Lightning Thief. So much stuff was wrong with that movie that I couldn’t even watch it through the first time I saw it. I was hoping that they’d reboot it immediately. Sort of what happened with the Incredible Hulk. But I guess not…-shakes head-

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VCJSDSEDKYOBEKWGIXCDB2QPYA Henry

cant wait for this!! I hope it sticks with the book more.

  • 7Starrchasers

i love her…but i have no faith in the movie!

  • Percy Jackson

Oh, wow. I can’t believe this. When I clicked the link, I thought she’s going to replace Alexandra Daddario as Annabeth Chase. I was surprised to find out she’s Clarisse! She doesn’t seem to fit the description in the book. I always pictured her as big, loud and a bit boyish. But I think Leven  can pull it off. She’s a good actress. What I do hope is that they won’t MURDER and BUTCHER this one.

    • GinnyWeasley002

Me too! I was so happy “YAY! A BLONDE ANNABETH”

And then I saw “Will be playing Ares’ daughter” and I was all “WHATTTT??????!”

      • Percy Jackson

I know, right. But who knows. Whoever chose her must have reasons. We can’t judge the actors by how much they resemble the character in the book. They can dye her hair, put some muscles on and alter her appearance. What they can’t give is the essence of the character she might already have. I’m still hoping this movie will be faithful to the book or I will turn into a minotaur and hunt them down!

  • http://hypable.com Selina

Wooow that’s definitely not the Clarisse the author had in mind… but hey, what casting has been accurate so far in these films?

  • http://twitter.com/StarkidSims Simone

Uhoh Leven better be careful or she’ll go down the typecast path. She’d be great but I did picture someone a little bulkier or muscly for Clarisse

  • Guest

how nice would it be if we get an announcement saying that theyre gonna remake ‘the lightning thief’ with a DIFFRENT screenwriter and director?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=694689142 Michelle Henman Massengale

Clarisse was supposed to be rather bulky and not pleasant looking.  I’m not 100% sure but I have been shocked before.  Here’s to hoping they have a great makeup staff.

    • http://twitter.com/PanemLights Tony

Let’s just hope they don’t use makeup on her at all.

  • hermy02

ive never read the books and dont really plan on it any time soon but i thought the first movie was good…nothing like Eragon but then again ive read Eragon so maybe thats part of it but as a movie itself, i think percy jackson was good and i liked it….im excited for the next one

    • GinnyWeasley002

But it IS like Eragon in one way: The movie is a HORRIBLE rendition of the book.

      That is all.

  • Cjstein

I guess they’re trying to get someone that looks similar to Annebeth to play Clarisse.

  • GinnyWeasley002

She. Is. WAY. to gorgeous for Clarisse.
I think I’m gonna die if they ruin one more thing about one of my favorite books.

  • WillowBlood

Not anything against Leven Rambin, but NO. Too pretty, too slight.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000135602388 Lindsey Nestor

awful choice for clarisse. not even close to how she’s described or how i pictured her.

  • Adam

Oh hell what does it matter now. They royally screwed up the first one so bad that it really doesn’t make any difference now. I am surprised to see they are actually doing another one after all this time. At this rate Logan’s going to be 30 by the time they finish them all and that’s also if they decide to do the second series too. I say reboot with new actors.

    • Luna

agreed, they screwed up so bad in the first movie

  • Emily

Oh gosh. Nothing against the actress at all, but who casts these things?
I will see Annabeth every time I look at Clarisse.
That is, if I can bring myself to watch it.

  • Anon8

She looks more like one of Aphrodite’s kids, but it’s obvious the films don’t care about the detailed physicality and genetics revolving around being a demi-god.

  • Ncnapper92

If they make her look angry enough I will buy it I suppose. I did picture her as sort of chubby, and unattractive though.

  • http://twitter.com/taylie27 Taylore Thompson

Can we just seriously pretend it’s been ten years or so now so that they can just remake the lighting thief with younger actors and keep it closer to the book!!!

  • gleeky-potterhead

Clarisse should have been in the last film…
Why all of a sudden are they putting her in now???

    • Eoin

      Cause they realized she’s important.

  • Alyssa

Now, they just need to swap the actresses for Annabeth and Clarisse. I mean, they’re both already hired for the movie.

  • Iluvhp2much

SHE’S SUPPOSE TO BE A FREAKING TEENAGER!!! CAN WE JUST FORGET THEY MADE A FIRST MOVIE AND START OVER WITH KIDS?

  • http://twitter.com/janinejks Janine JK.S ϟ

I will see Annabeth every time I look at Clarisse. +1
She doesnt look at all like Clarisse.

  • sammylovegood

    she doesnt look very threatening…….

  • sammylovegood

I think they are taking all the plot they missed from movie 1 (which is like ALL OF IT) and putting it into movie 2…………….. Good luck :P

  • Malea

she’s too pretty!!! I pictured Clarisse like ugly, but powerful….:/

  • http://twitter.com/greeneggsplusam Sam

    She’s too pretty…
Oh well, it’s at the point where they could make the plot revolve around aliens and I wouldn’t be surprised. The casting for the first was so pathetic I can see them casting Justin Bieber as Rachel.

    • Blake

Justin Elizabeth Dare…Justin Beiber in a curly red wig is probably the only reason I would pay to see another Percy Jackson movie. That would be hilarious. Let’s do that. Can they do that?

  • http://twitter.com/ladylycanthrope Amber

Ok, freaking out because the chick was in the Hunger Games is stupid. It’s called acting, people can star in many different blockbuster movies.

  • Fakecheeseisyum

that pimple on the side of her chin looks pretty ugly though :l

  • Blake

No, I’m not excited because fuck this movie guys. You already raped all the other characters. CLARISSE IS TOO GOOD FOR YOU.

  • Lad

She doesn’t look AT ALL like the Clarisse I had pictured in my mind…. kind of disappointing.

  • D8

I really don’t plan on seeing this movie because the first was really kinda bad so..

  • ducky

At first I was a bit upset by this but they screwed up the first one so bad that I really couldn’t care less. I definitely WON’T be wasting my time with this one.

  • Vantage

Isn’t the first one bad enough?

  • http://twitter.com/aadnama Amanda Douglas

Wow, this is the most complaints I’ve ever seen on a post before. Maybe I’m the only one who expects book-to-movie adaptations to be NOTHING like the book? I mean, yeah, compared to the book the movie was awful. Just as a standalone movie, though? Definitely not bad. Don’t get me wrong, next to The Golden Compass, this is one of the worst adaptations I’ve ever seen, but I learn to just get over it and take it for what it is. I guess I’m the only one?

  • http://twitter.com/Ladysugarquill Guillermina

But – she looks nothing like Clarisse (who’s not supposed to be very pretty), and she is like 20 years too old!
