A few weeks ago it was announced that the film’s shoot date was set for August 15, and now we have the release date!

The release date is August 23, 2013!

The first book in the Mortal Instruments series, City of Bones, introduces us to Clary Fray and the shadowhunter world.  Lily Collins is set to play Clary while Jamie Campbell Bower is set to play Jace, although he is no longer listed on the IMDB page.  The screenplay has been written by I. Marlene King, the script writer for Pretty Little Liars, and Jessica Postigo.

In book news today, you can read The City of Lost Souls first chapter on The Mortal Instruments fan site.  The City of Lost Souls is the fifth book in The Mortal Instruments series and is set for release on May 8th.

Oh PLEASE let them get another actor to play Jace!!!!!!!

  • SpiritWitch120

Actually, Jamie Campbell Bower is no longer playing Jace.

    • QuaffleRose34

is it bad that i’m rather happy about that….?

      • SpiritWitch120

I can’t really say. But a lot of ‘fans’ are criticising Cassandra Clare for her choice when she was the person who created the character in the first place. I really dislike people who think Alex Pettyfer should play Jace, just because he’s blonde and has blue eyes.

I think Alex Pettyfer should play Jace because he’s a good actor and is literally the spitting image of how how I pictured Jace.
Before I knew who he was my sister showed me a picture and I was like “WOAH! He looks just like the guy in a book I read!”
However, he doesn’t seem like such a nice guy.

          • TophFan

Are you high? Alex Pettyfer has recieved consistently horrible reviews for everything he’s starred in.

Pretty face is NOT the prerequisite for being a decent actor.

          • Shooz

Really?! You should see his acting in In Time, I was really impressed, I didn’t expect him to be so good. Personally I think he’d b perfect to play Jace.

          • SpiritWitch120

Shooz, you think he should play Jace because he was decent in one film. On top of that, decent as a villain and yet in other films he’s really not all that good. Jace is no villain, so how is he perfect. Yet again, generic view. UGH. You remind me of Twihards.

          • SpiritWitch120

I agree with TophFan. He isn’t all that great of an actor, and yes; I’m not just taking this from reviews but from actually watching the films he’s been in. See, this is exactly what I said I dislike. People seem to think he’s right for the part just because he looks like the way Jace is described, i.e. blonde hair and blue eyes. There are sooooo many actors who could do better justice with Jace’s character, and there is such thing as hair dye and contacts so they don’t even need to look like the way Cassandra describes his character. The only reason people seem to think he should play Jace is because of his appearance. It’s such a generic way of thinking and pretty stupid in my eyes. Oh, and also about your point, I have also seen several things and heard and read several things to suggest he isn’t all that nice. Perhaps it’s the accent that seems to attract people. I for one, am British so I hear nothing special.

Jamie Campbell Bower is still playing Jace, and as she said on her live journal, she has no say in who is cast and that when she sold the movie rights, that would be like “moving out of a house and then asking the owners to repaint the living room”.

      • yourefunny07

I’m happy that he’s not, I mean Jace is supposed to be more masculine then Jamie Campell Bower is and honestly, better looking to lol, but it should be whoever the author says it should be, I mean she did write it

        • QuaffleRose34

          agreed on both counts lol.

        • WillowBlood

Agreed, but the book did say Jace had wide-set eyes, which Jamie Campbell-Bower does. But still…

Actually they’re still in the process of negotiating his contract. However, he is no longer officially attached so his role is defintely subject to change.

I hope they are able to improve the story with the movie. The book itself had a lot of potential, but I was so put of by the huge problems in the story telling, that I decided not to read the sequels. Cassandra does not do characters well, and it doesn’t help that hints in the story of coming plot twists are as subtle as a blow to the face with a car, and yet the main character can not make heads or tails of them.

the only way this is going to have any type of success is if jamie is indeed recast

  • abby

I seriously cannot wait for this movie, I hope they do the books justice because they’re amazing. I’m happy to hear that Jamie won’t be playing Jace, he’s not what I pictured at all.

  • Mikayla_marks

Umm Jamie is still attached to play Jace. I don’t want him to play jace but I still can’t wait till the movie

  • Holly Ann

This is such a complex story to tell that I can’t imagine this movie will be any good:( So sad to see this happening:(
