Report: Wii U release date set for November 18

Nintendo’s tablet-based console has already been confirmed for this year. If a recent report is true, it could very well be released in the middle of November.

Wii U Daily reports that the console will hit store shelves in North America on November 18, citing an internal e-mail circulating at Japanese retailer Media Land.

The report indicates Japan will get the Wii U a week later. No word on the European release date as of yet.

It is uncertain if this is just a company target date or if Nintendo has committed to it.

The original Wii released November 19, 2006 and the Gamecube released November 18, 2001 so this release date would fall in line with Nintendo’s history.

    I haven’t even touched my Wii for at least 6 months, and the Wii U seems more like a Wii 2.0 than a new console. I might end up buying it eventually, but probably not within the first year or two.

      I doubt it. Every developer who’s gotten their hands on the system says it’s incredible and there are dozens of games for it already, from Assassin’s Creed to Mario to Arkham City

      Right, and the SNES seemed like a “NES 2.0,” (Especially with the difference being that it just has “Super” in its name) yet, that was a new console, what’s different here?

    That’s true of almost every console in existence and yet almost all of them(and all of the Ninty ones) have been released in Japan first. What’s changed?
