We’ve seen precious little about Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman adaptation, but this updated (and significantly less shiny) logo gives us an idea of the grittier tone that Warner Brothers is aiming for.

Thanks to Warner Bros. (via CBM) and their decision to create their Man of Steel Facebook page, a new logo for Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel has finally hit the internet.

Of course, they can’t reinvent the wheel with a big red “S”, but it still manages to look sufficiently awesome.

What do you think? It’s basically just a more modern, darker colored and roughed up version of Superman’s super-famous logo. Is it enough of a change? Does the thought of a “gritty” Superman appeal to you?

      I don’t see the similarities?

      • FlamingC

For starters the light comes down from the same angle. The emblem is mysteriously hanging on a wall with grunge textures. It’s not rocket science you know. I have no doubt in my mind that this was inspired by the X-Men banner.

Wow… You think that just because the new logo was revealed on a grunge background with lighting..It was inspired by the X-Men banner?

          • FlamingC

I KNOW it was inspired by it. No hate on the logo it’s really cool. And it’s good to be inspired by other works of art, it just shows that the X-Men banner was really well done, and this one is too.

Well if a red “s” is a rip off of a silver “x” then YEAH!

      • FlamingC

They are both hero emblems on a wall with grunge texture, the light is coming down from the same angle. Jesus you guys blind or do you have to be a photoshop expert like me to see the similarities.

        • rdh014

Honey just because you took computer graphics in high school does not make you a photoshop expert.

          • FlamingC

You are sadly mistaken. I am a profession graphic designer. Go be a moron some place else.

          • rdh014

I’m not a moron, in fact I’m a very intelligent person. Enough to know that neither of these has anything in common:

            1) All super heroes have emblems. This isn’t surprising both designers chose to use a recognizable symbol to make people interested.
2)The light coming down from the top? Yeah, they did that to showcase the emblem. If it came from the bottom, it would look sinister. Instead it comes from the top, to look like something good. This is not something new to graphic design.
            3) The First Class emblem is clear, bright, clean steel looking. The Superman emblem is red and yellow and extremely beat-up.
4)There is no “grunge background” on the First Class emblem. It looks like a cement wall. Same with the Superman emblem only the background is much more prominent.

Go be a moron some place else.

Everything gets darker as time goes on, it seems.  Look at the Harry Potter logo…each year was darker.  Seems commonplace anymore.

  • rdh014

    looks a little obese.

  • Elise

I like the colors, but what’s up with the fat “S”?

  • Liderc

All this talk of “gritty” seems like they just want a “Dark Knight” franchise to come out of this.  Can’t blame them, but feels a little forced.

honestly I kinda want this movie to be a combination of Smallville and the Superman legend kinda like the new spiderman or batman begins give a little extra background before diving into whatever villain Superman is facing know what I mean? Still think this banner looks pretty epic :D

  • gcw07

The logo looks good. I’m just hoping they don’t rehash his origin story again. I’m a little disappointed Amazing Spider-Man is rehashing the origin story again. I think we all know Superman’s origins by now.

    • FlamingC

I remember reading that one of the actors revealed that the film covers everything starting from Kal-El’s birth, but some set images reveal it to be more of a Batman Begins like take.

      • gcw07

I haven’t exactly watched closely the development of this one since it is still over a year away. As long as they just kind of glance over it, it will be fine. Just seems redundant to do the whole origin story again.

haha. Agree. All Star Superman did it best.

  • Theaterboy1

If it’s anywhere near as good as the Dark Knight, I don’t mind whatever they do to it.
